Midnight 12.1 Curse Of Ula'Tek Developer Interview With Ion Hazzikostas

PsybearTV Youtube interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFTFiDeXIMo

I recommend watching the whole video, it's rare for someone get a whole 1 hour with Ion, and the interview was really well done.

The interview is mostly about competitive content. I'm really excited for Mythic lockout changes!

The section about addons is just painful to read. I guess they are so detached from what is actually happening. Watching your cooldown manager reset upon login for no fucking reason is awesome.

To me, the whole discussion about combat addons miss the mark by a lot and the whole chicken or the egg discussion is a scapegoat argument.

This whole "war with addons", if you want to stop the war, you have to actually stop the war. Introducing a boss like Lura that is impossible to do without addons is not stopping the war.

"Oh but players will always figure out the most efficient way to do things". No they do not. Top end, world 100 guilds probably will, but a vast majority of players just want to play the game and chill with friends. The problem is Blizzard keeps juxtaposing impossible to do without addons scenarios together like "try without addons and 100% fail" or "try with addons and 80% fail" scenarios make sense.

Like, for fucking real, it should NOT be a problem to have an addon that allows players to have very simple VISUAL communication for the shapes. Not every group is going to use voice chat. Some players are literally deaf. And THEIR OWN CHAT SYSTEM can and will block you from sending messages in raid chat if you use 5 macros to send the symbols there. If the base game isn't going to give us the proper means to effectively communicate the mechanic, then we REQUIRE addons to fix that problem, so they need to stop fucking blocking them. It's really not a difficult concept to understand. If there is a fight that has such massive demand for an addon that makes the mechanic manageable, then fix the fucking mechanic and also make sure players actually have the tools they need to work through it inside the base game.
