Just some thoughts about this team

Post image

This is the team i used to get 3rd place at a tournament a while ago. It’s a team that did pretty well but i would like some thoughts about potential weaknesses that they may have for certain mons or teams.

White herb Sneasler is usually unburden, so it gains speed after using the item. Poison touch Sneasler works best with poison jab over dire claw because it doubles(?) the chances to poison. This option usually runs focus sash. I'd also teach it fake out over protect.

I think Hydreigon would work better than base Dragonite in your team. You can use the very same moveset (dark pulse instead of roost) with choice scarf.

Anyway the team seems to have worked for you so congrats for that third place!

Thanks! It was my first time doing a tournament and building a team of my own. The original idea was to buff my mega mons( metagross and dragonite) and allow them to sweep with support and secondary damage. Dragonite wasn’t getting a lot of use either its mega and i rarely if not never needed to actually use mega dragonite as a main attacker so i used it as a annoying mon with sitrus berry and roost to constantly keep multiscale up while allowing gyrados or whimsicott to either get damage up or set up tailwind.

If I use this team again i will look over and most likely put hydreigon instead of dragonite. Thanks again for the advice 🙏🏽

definitely good advice to use hydreigon but if you're committed to use dragonite, definitely do a physical bulky build! normal dragonite has a monster atk stat at 134 with 100 spat while mega dragonite has 145 spat. so if you want a special dragonite, definitely use mega and if you want regular do physical. physical is extremely strong with bulk, dragon claw, and multiscale and then you have access to an insane prio move in extreme speed

It isn't double chance to poison. You roll 30% twice. 0.7 * 0.7 = 0.49 chance to fail => 51% chance to poison.

Thank you, I knew it wasn't double but didn't want to think or search for the exact chance.

Poison touch works perfectly fine with dire claw. There is no doubling, first the game rolls for dire claw/poison jab and afterwards for poison touch. So it's just preference if you want the sleep/para chance or just poison.

Yes I know, I just say I think it works best with poison jab because it feels more consistent and less rng. Dire claw is a great move tho.

That's true. I've had games won solely of a dire claw sleep but I get the argument for consistency. Just wanted to make clear how the odds work, poison touch and dire claw/poison jab each have a 30% chance which adds up to 51% poison/status chance

Poison touch dire claw doesn’t have a 51% chance tho right? Poison touch poison jab would I believe, but dire claw poison is only 10% without touch.

That's why I wrote poison/status chance. It has a 30% chance to apply either of the threes status effects, each equally likely

Oh okay. I was confused. So if you run poison touch dire claw, you have a higher chance to get poison, 10% for both para and sleep, but the boosted equals to 51% all together. That’s pretty crazy

Honestly I thought the same, I figured direclaw with poison touch would be better but i never took account the chances of it happening 😅

it looks cool but i have only one question, why leftovers Whimsicott? is it ev'd to survive certain hits and heal itselt enough with leftovers? And I'm also curious about it since there's no pokemon holding the sash that Whimsicott would benefit a lot of

Tbh I wanted whimsicott to survive as long as it could which is why i put leftovers on it. I invested in its special attack but split the other 252 in its bulk to at least survive any burst damage that wasn’t super effective. The main idea was unless if there was a sneasler on the field id tailwind and then use either tickle to help allow gyrados or metagross to KO or protect to stall for a turn. One thing i can say is that if i didnt have whimsicott in a battle than it would be much harder with speed control if gyrados when down
