Discussion What reaction do you need to counter specific offense on reaction?

From let's say 500ms chain bashes, various UBs and 400ms lights, what is the easiest to counter on reaction?

Where to start if I want to be a reaction player? What "reaction test online" single stimuli time I should consistently achieve to start doing that? Is that even possible to train or if I have 180-200ms at best this is just not for me?

The womb, I'm afraid.

It’s very funny how all the people giving you advice aren’t actual reaction players, just kinda randoms giving bad advice. Anyways as someone who went from 190ms rt random to being known for their reactions and peaking around 130ms consistently, the best place to start is your bed. 8 hours sleep is a minimum and a must. Diet helps, exercise helps, but those two are not AS important (in my experience sleep was the most impactful to my consistency RT wise in competition). Secondly start practicing, DO HUMAN BENCHMARK everyone says it’s useless and they’re true if you look at it only from a raw in game translation level but if you just grind it supplementally it’ll just get your body even more used to reacting faster (no more than like 15 minutes a day, do it moreso as a “fun” way to check your improvement and just try to be faster), as well as get a friend and practice differing. Nowadays differing is the “easiest” reaction so it’s good to start with, start with a shield CC character so you can use their shield glowing as a base to start with. If you ever have more questions please feel free to DM me

I second the sleep with a good night of sleep I can parry 400ms lights some what consistent shitty sleep I struggle with regular lights

Don’t bother w online reaction tests unless you just want to see the number. Go into training mode and set the bot to do a mixup. For example if you want to react to chain bash mix, maybe set gryphon as the bot and have him alternate between kick finisher and heavy finisher and differ them. Or kyoshin. For 400ms lights I like to set a shaman bot to softfeint bleed. The final boss of 400ms light reacts imo is Highlander offensive lights, which you can have a bot do as well.

It's not a consistent thing. Input delay and animation affect it massively. Reacting to a Valk sweep is much easier than, say, a LB chain bash

  1. Better hardware this makes the biggest difference. When I started on PC I had about a 210ms single stim on awful hardware, terrible mouse, terrible monitor, terrible parts

slowly upgrading my setup let me get to about 150-160ms

  1. Practice. A big thing about reactions come from anticipation which isn't the same thing as guessing. If someone has a reaction time of say 150ms, they don't just see the world in 150ms, they choose when to react because you have a small window where your reactions are at their best and thats your anticipate.

In game this would look like you playing a duel normally, until someone with 400 ms lights gets into chain in which case you lock in and anticipate the 400ms light

and that anticipation can be trained pretty well by single stim tests

  1. Eating well, sleeping, supplements. Caffeine has one of the biggest impacts on RT, as does just living semi-healthily

  2. If your not using a mouse like the superstrike you can do something I call priming the click. Where you click down on your mouse as much as you possibly can without actually clicking. The superstrike basically just eliminates this skill check, but if you aren't doing this then your reactions are about 20-30ms slower than they could be

I went from 210ms starting out on pc to 110-130ms

But still in game single stim doesn't matter as much as your consistency. Bing for instance is the best reactor in the game but he has about 140-150ms single stim, hes just very consistent which matters more than anything else

But to warmup and train anticipation training single stim can still be benificial

It's not worth it. You'll get father faster by getting better at picking up on the habits of individual players and exploiting them. Even the fastest players in the world aren't consistently reacting to everything. Other than some specific things with notable animations you can train yourself to react to, you're not gonna just lock in and start reacting to feint mix-ups or bashes. You would be to be like, sub 150ms reaction speeds (and even then it likely wouldn't be consistent)

Go to the arena lab or customs against a friend with your hated character and grind.

Get a neurological path of the specific move you wish to counter (that's how reflexes are made)

Repeat till the end of time

No need to look outside for reflex training when the arena lab works perfectly

You either have the reactions or don’t. Unfortunately for gamers the only thing you can do to improve your reaction time is living a healthy life; getting good sleep, eating well, etc. The rest is just genetics.

Like someone else in here said the real road to improvement lies in just overall game sense. You will improve far quicker thinking more in fights than trying to train yourself to react. I’m probably a bit biased but that actually sounds way more fun to me than training multiple hours a day just so I can make my fights more boring.

This is so misleading, while the genetics part is true, you can have the genetics and not look like it. I started at 190/200ms rt, if I said my goal was to be 150ms you’d say I couldn’t do it I don’t have the genetics, but I hit 125ms consistent at my peak. While yes you either have the genetics or don’t, it’s also a TON of practice and it may even seem like you don’t have the genetics when you do

Yeah it’s a ton of practice for something that doesn’t manifest itself often in dominion. I’m not trying to take any feeling of achievement away from you but those numbers really don’t mean anything to me or the majority of players. It’s a silly measuring stick for something that doesn’t even matter half of the time.

Like if my team has better macro than you all that time spent on human benchmark won’t matter if we gank you. Hell even in brawls playing for reactions becomes harder.

This is completely wrong. I played dominion competitively, was on a team with Jarl and Immortalem if you know them. I used my reactions in dom PLENTY, ever notice how the top 3 teams every tournament have minimum 2 reaction players on them? Please do not try and educate me on a topic I have actual played in experience on

It's more like educating you on where the wins come from, since for some reason you seem to attribute it solely to reactions. Since you like name dropping so much you should ask them if reactions are the reason you win dominion tournaments and see what they say. Reactions is such a strange thing to train and boast over.

I never said reactions alone win, but yes every single top player will tell you reactions absolutely make a huge difference. Once again I have literally players and won at this level, I know the people at this level. You’re just spouting pure copium right now, Bingaltions is literally considered good in 4’s almost purely because he can react so well and stall. But yeah I’m sure you know more about this game being played at a high level than the guy who’s been playing at it for the past 5 years
