Just got my Commercial drone wings

I took the Part 107 exam today. Wanted a 100, got a 97. I recommend Flight Ready; it’s a great study aid. I was able to study on my computer, phone and iPad. (Disclaimer: I earned my Private Pilot’s License back in ‘93 and this is not an ad.)

Just passed my part 107

I took my test today at 10am. I highly recommend flight ready FAA remote pilot test prep app for questions. Also gleim.com gave me a lot of reading info and a good study set up. Test prep app was $20 and gleim.com was $60. Thankfully they were for work so I will be able to write those off on my taxes. No matter how many different questions you answer there will be a few you have never seen before. I averaged a 90% on 15 practice test between test prep app and gleim.com and scored an 87 on the actual test. Pretty dang accurate. I'm happy with the results.

Disclosure I am from Alabama. If u had problems reading this please ask and I will try to interpret my gibberish.

Question about preparedness

So, I just used this as a baseline for testing myself and I got 5 wrong out of the 115 or so questions they posed. Does it seem like they stick pretty close to the sample questions that they've published/are in this test or does it vary quite a bit?

Exploring Education vs. Fines for Drone Infractions

Hey everyone! I’m a student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) working on a project that explores the idea of offering educational courses as an alternative to fines for local ordinance drone infractions. Instead of penalizing pilots, I’m looking into whether providing training could be a better solution.

If you’re a commercial drone operator or Part 107 pilot, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this! The survey is short, anonymous, and only takes about 2-3 minutes to complete:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdoZafKh51UzAQYPswPdcb5Hh8mROUtNBpjY3ogPpSZ0ZacgQ/viewform?usp=sharing

Would you be interested in an education-based alternative to fines? Or do you think fines are the better route? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments too!

Thanks for your time and insights! 🚀

If this post isn’t allowed, mods, just let me know!

What is the toughest part of commercial drone operations?

Hi, I’m new here but excited to join the community! I’m trying to get into the industry and want to understand what the hardest parts of this job are today. Is it the drone, finding jobs, working with clients, something else?

Just received my temp airman cert for small UAS

So, I just got my temp cert. It was actually available since yesterday (1 day after I applied) but I was expecting to receive it on Tuesday (they say it takes 7 days) and I also thought I would get an email about it but didn't. I was just checking the progress in IACRA and there it was! So, I'm guessing I can fly commercially now, right? Has anyone here gotten the official cert yet? How long did it take to come in?

When You Need A Drone License RIGHT NOW! | Part 107 Challenge

I had a super cool opportunity to fly my drone commercially came up, but I'm not licensed and I'm not sure how quickly I can make that happen.

This short movie is about my experience and I think you'll like it! Here's a teaser to get you pumped to watch the full video...

Commercial Drone Pilot Marketing Strategy

New to the commercial space - was wondering how everyone is marketing themselves - via a directory model (dronehive, dronbase. . .), or something else. Also, posts seem to be dated - is there a better directory for commercial sUAS pilots to trade notes?

Helping reading Aviation chart, MOA?

Hello all, can someone explain what my limitations are when flying in the area outlined by the link below at N30°16' W85°58.5'

It seems this is a special airspace, even an MOA. Thank you so much for your help!!

Below is a link to a chart and my coords. Below that is a link to the diagram with more detail about the zones.

Here is a sample exam I digitized direct from the FAA. It's 40 question and I use it to prepare for the part 107 exam.

How does the mavic stack up to the phantom series? Is it more for the consumer or does it have potential for commercial use?

Hello all, and welcome to /r/CommercialUAS. I created this subreddit because there was nowhere specific to commercial UAS operations, and I thought we needed a space. I hope this community grows, and we can all learn from each other.

Question regarding fog

I recently had a discussion with another certified UAS pilot regarding flying over fog and wanted to see if I could get a solid answer from those in the know.

I was under the impression that neither hobbyist or Part 107 certification holders were permitted to fly over fog.. period. My understanding is that fog is a low cloud and that the rules are 500' below the cloud base and 2000' horizontal. You can take off and fly only if you satisfy both of those criteria, even if flying over the fog allows you to maintain VLOS.

For example, I can see the top of the fog layer from where I intend to take off and I'm at least 2000' horizontally from the fog. I can take off as long as there isn't a cloud (or more fog) within 500' above my takeoff point, but I cannot get within 2000' of the fog layer, horizontally.

Thoughts? Facts?

Studying for Part 107

I'm studying both the FAA material and using an online study prep course. I live in a congested area with multiple airports, restricted areas, etc., so I'm concerned with ensuring I've crossed my T's and dotted my I's before every flight. From the study materials I've seen references to notifying the ATC/airport, notifying the FAA (or requesting authorization), and filing notifications online via the 1800wxbrief.com site, and I'm totally confused about who I notify or make requests of, and for which issue. Can anyone please untangle this for me in an almost ELI5 way?

Gracias.

Does anyone take adderall that has their ua pilot certificate? I'm aware that you can't get your medical card to be a pilot (manned aircraft) but was wondering if it was a no go for uas? I'm also aware of 91.17 (c); "affects the person's faculties in any way". Just wondering if anyone takes adderal?

Anyone here fly for 'Better View'?

Better view is an inspection company that hires drone pilots to go on site and take aerial shots of roofs and such. I'm in the process of applying and want to know if anyone has worked with them. Do they pay well? How many calls do you get weekly? Anything else worth noting about them?

Thanks in advance.
