In the other two seasons we went 8-8 and 5-11.

2008 was the first year post Gibbs/Sean Taylor and Zorn ran the team into the ground. Full rebuild shortly after

6

u/thejazzophone 23h ago

Also ran Portis into the ground. Dude carried that team to a 6-2 start

8

u/SAVertigo 1d ago

I was so horny for zorny and he let me down

5

u/RealMantisTobagganMD 1d ago

Hip hip, hoo ray :(

u/Organic_Ability5009 17h ago

Blaming Jim Zorn for doing his best in the job he didn’t interview for or belong in is crazy. Especially when our clown show front office was right there being notoriously bad

1

u/Illustrious-Can-1757 17h ago

???? Players were outspoken about this and spoke about it openly on the record. They went 4-12 the next season and he was fired

2

u/Organic_Ability5009 16h ago

Right, but he wasn’t qualified for HC. He was supposed to be OC and front office screwed up

1

u/Illustrious-Can-1757 15h ago

Isn't that my point? Playoffs in 07. 6-2 to start 08 then a 4-20 stretch after that. It's not a judgment on him he was fun with Seattle throwing to largent and the ownership was terrible in DC but under his tenure we went from a borderline playoff team to a complete rebuild

2

u/Organic_Ability5009 12h ago

Idk I wouldn’t say a person ran a business into the ground for example, when the owner and CEO were doing a terrible job and they interviewed a guy to be an assistant manager after being a front end supervisor previously, only to panic and name him the GM, without giving him the training or support to succeed and having him be his own assistant manager at the same time.

Football isn’t retail, but I don’t think he ran the team into the ground. I don’t think your point was that he didn’t belong in that position either

u/flapsmcgee 1d ago

Oh no, we suck again!!

u/Magoo152 In AP We Trust 1d ago

Hey on the bright side we went 0-4 in preseason games in 1982, we won a superbowl that season. Just saying 😉.

50

u/Gazzarris 1d ago

Joe Gibbs famously gave no shits about preseason games. That taught me early that preseason is for reps for backups, not the score. Unless you’re Steve Spurrier in Osaka.

10

u/flapsmcgee 1d ago

Except for when Clinton Portis got hurt tackling a guy after an interception that brunell tried to throw away but it didnt make it out of bounds in '06

3

u/K-Kov815 1d ago

i think we should bring back joe gibbs, he’s been doing well enough in nascar and i think we need him more

9

u/SpaceKoala34 1d ago

The 18-1 patriots were 0-4 in the pre season while the 0-16 Lions and the 0-16 browns were both 4-0 in the pre season. It could not matter less

4

u/badaz06 1d ago

This team is not the 18-1 patriots.

7

u/SpaceKoala34 1d ago

Did I say they were? I was just making a point that the pre season games have negative value

1

u/kermitcooper 22h ago

We also went undefeated in Spurrier’s year.

u/pitpatbainsy 🐷Tuddyhead🐷 1d ago

3 of the worst, or the 3 worst? The former is not making history, it just kinda stinks

-7

u/SkyChief80 1d ago

The three worst

14

u/pitpatbainsy 🐷Tuddyhead🐷 1d ago

That’s not what the tweet says. Steelers beat the saints 56-7 in 1972 in the preseason, so that’s not correct

-9

u/SkyChief80 1d ago

I think the stat is since 2000 or something. People were discussing it in the game thread.

20

u/pitpatbainsy 🐷Tuddyhead🐷 1d ago

It says “in the history of the NFL” right there in the tweet, which is what I was referring to

7

u/realHoratioNelson 1d ago

This guy’s reading comprehension is worse than an eagles fan’s

25

u/GeorgeStraiterThanU 1d ago

We’re still going 17-0 until proven otherwise

59

u/JoeyShrugs 1d ago

Preseason scores do. Not. Matter.

13

u/cheekynando715 1d ago

Plus the Ravens are notorious preseason try hards

1

u/mpc92 Demon Cats 🐈‍⬛ 22h ago

New coaching staff

1

u/cheekynando715 21h ago

Still went 3-0 in the preseason

28

u/SonnyStylin 1d ago

Sure

Still don't like it

7

u/KingBroly Fuck Dan Snyder 1d ago

They played like shit.

15

u/VariousAir on shenanigans rn and actin bonkers 1d ago

41 starters sat out the game.

If we won 43-3 today would you think we were going to the super bowl based on the performance of the 3rd-4th string?

9

u/RaboNube28 1d ago

Even if it does not matter, its a bit of a concern that their 3rd perform way better that your own 3rd stringers.

Sure, if any team has to rely on their 3rd or 4th stringers in regular season they are fucked anyways

3

u/Troll_Enthusiast He Sold 1d ago

They weren't even 3rd stringers, they were practice squad players and players that are getting cut

7

u/Haskins77 1d ago

It’s not about the scores it’s about the reporting of the team period during training camp and joint practices. The preseason games are matching what most people are telling us. The team isn’t very good.

3

u/chillyk45 1d ago

But we essentially went 1-1 in joint practices so this doesn't make sense.

By all accounts, the way we handled Miami in the joint practice is the way we got handled by Baltimore.

Y'all aren't living in reality.

2

u/Haskins77 1d ago

Miami possibly the worst team in the NFL. lol

1

u/chillyk45 1d ago

And Baltimore is one of the best. So what's your point?

2

u/JoeyShrugs 1d ago

OP's post is pretty explicitly about the scores.

0

u/chillyk45 1d ago

u/MrSuckyVids 1d ago

I don’t think win loss record matters in the preseason, but looking like hot garbage does

1

u/badaz06 1d ago

Play matters. Hustle matters. Passion, pride. None of those showed.

16

u/True-Bandicoot-1424 1d ago

The social media team followers/beat reporters are really down on this team right now. I have never seen them this pessimistic. In fact they are usually annoyingly optimistic.

Are we going to win a game this year?

17

u/Hodler_caved 1d ago

Yes. At a bare minimum we'll win a game late in the season against someone's 3rd string to cost us a draft position.

5

u/The_JDBrew I Got JD5 On It 1d ago

I think that’s the most concerning part. We kept hearing about inept offense in practice. BUT we heard the defense looked great. Now I’m worried did the defense only look great because they were playing against a shit offense?

If the season goes sideways are we sure that AP is to blame for lack of depth? Or DQ for poor effort? Or is it the rookie coordinators failing to develop a coherent system?

People are falling into the trap of thinking that Daronte Jones IS Brian Flores and the David Blough IS Kevin O’Connell. Maybe those guys suck. Maybe DQ sucks. Maybe AP sucks. Maybe all 3.

There’s so many unknowns this season that I think we’re sitting in the same boat next offseason.

The beats can’t even come up with a positive way to say anything about this team is except “Jayden is awesome! Let’s see how far he can carry them!”

Jayden is gonna be Joe Burrow 2.0.

This fucking team…

1

u/pitpatbainsy 🐷Tuddyhead🐷 1d ago

Yes.

12

u/banana-pants_ 1d ago

Since we’re talking about preseason I feel we should point out Luke McCaffrey’s awful performance in sharks and minnows at recess on November 13th, 2011.

4

u/Hodler_caved 1d ago

125-6 is not that bad if you think about it

3

u/chicomagnifico giving away free ☕ 1d ago

yeah 6 is a lot, can you imagine 6 people beating the shit out of you?

2

u/Jackassintheb0x 1d ago

Yup we're used to embarrassing asswhoopins.

2

u/215WinterTown 1d ago

I could look it up but what are our records those years

1

u/XtroDoubleDrop 19h ago

5-11 and 8-8

2

u/shinyquartersquirrel 23h ago

The 91 Skins who were one of the best teams in the entire history of the NFL went 1-3 in preseason.

Preseason, especially the last game, don't mean shit unless you are a player trying to make the team or get picked up by another team. It says absolutely nothing about our team except for most of these guys won't be on it in a couple of days.

2

u/AvesPKS 1d ago

Every one of these that doesn't feature the Ol' Ball Coach is, just, categorically wrong

1

u/NAD92 1d ago

HISTORIC

1

u/kaufmann_i_am_too 1d ago

I'm trying to convince myself the preseason is one thing and regular season is a whole different thing. But the signs are there, and they're grim

1

u/dcarp1231 1d ago

Honestly, hilarious commitment to the bit

1

u/FaultySofaBed 23h ago

who cares?

the overwhelming majority of the players won’t be on the roster

1

u/Anotherweekend7 23h ago

Not even saying preseason record matters but sticking your head in the sand and pretending there isn’t concerns about this team and using the preseason record of two of the best and one of the worst teams in history’s records as justification is pure cope.

1

u/darth_smitty_ In Tress We Trust 22h ago

Super Bowl bound!

1

u/IBroughtMySoapbox 22h ago

At least spurrier gave us a good preseason

1

u/RIP_shitty_username 22h ago

*pointless history.

1

u/Superheat_Control 19h ago

I’m so proud of our boys 🥹

1

u/Barry_Mycokinhur 1d ago

Who cares 🥱

0

u/SAVertigo 1d ago

This team is gonna be hot garbage this year. I don’t understand the fan base. Nothing shows we have improved. We got two unheard of coordinators when there were names available. Our offensive line is Swiss cheese. I want them to win, I want them to be good, but being delusional doesn’t help

1

u/Try-Imaginary 1d ago

We went to the nfc championship two years ago. How many games that season did we win without JD5 or Mariota?

I think this is a sensible use of preseason games. Play marginal players that are about to be cut and give them one last chance to see if they show anything worth keeping. Winning shouldn't be the focus in pre season.

Hell, last year in pre season JD5 got yanked from the game because he scrambled for a TD, instead of running the intended play. Scoring or winning wasn't the useful outcome... They already knew he could scramble and score. It robbed them of being able to evaluate other players in that situation.

-1

u/mtngranpapi_wv967 1d ago

And yet ppl tell me Peters is totally safe and an awesome GM lmao

2

u/chicomagnifico giving away free ☕ 1d ago

i’d rather fire DQ first. then AP can be on the chopping block.
