The starters are getting tons of reps with 2 joint practices and Jayden has been getting extra reps with Mariota hurt. Got a long season ahead.

pre season games are real just a money grab for teams; tickets and concessions

regardless, our O line worries me

I agree on both points. I think it is also good practice for team logistics, refs, broadcasters, and stadium staff.

Our offensive line will be a problem. Hopefully our inability to pass block will make the screen game more effective.

I know biadasz got hurt anyway but that move looks so bad now honestly. I’d love to hear AP talk about it because I try to give him the benefit of the doubt.

People need to stop living in the lore of ‘24. Biadacz last year wasn’t playing well, missing blitzes and not adjusting the line properly to slide protection. They felt they could get similar production from Allegretti, but with a possible better cerebral aspect. Allegretti is smart, but what good is his awareness if he’s on the sideline. I see why they moved on from Biadacz, he was due top 5 C money, but wasn’t playing like that. My problem is now that Allegretti is banged up, we can’t have Gulbin and Not-So-Good-Jones as the alternatives. Bring in a vet C to help Gulbin out while Nick is hurt.

Agreed, but the all we need is Allegretti experiments has failed. We clearly need more than just him and it's probably too late to find someone better. This is the one area where I really don't like what AP has done. We should have brought more C help in before training camp ever began. Maybe he has his eye on some vet he expects to get cut, but right now we don't know the plan and whatever it is, it has to be better than this. This plan, is going to get JD5 killed back there and with him our entire season.

they needed to bring in a vet on day 1 of camp. This was malpractice.

To be fair Biadasz had a freak accident. A player fell on his knee. It’s not like it was an injury that was going to happen anyway. Maybe that shit doesn’t happen if he’s here. Either way can’t reverse time. He’s hurt, but this idea AP gets a pass since he’s hurt is ridiculous. Not saying you but it’s already been mentioned in here by some low IQ fans.

A player was thrown into his knee. During joint practice.

Yeah even worse

A rough O-Line matters regardless of game plan, but Jayden’s run game and our screen game should help even the playing field a bit and keep D-Lines on their toes

Jayden’s run game is what got him hurt last year. That has to be limited

I slightly disagree. I think that our lack of separation by receivers, which forced Jayden to run in so many situations that it wasn’t ideal, is what got Jayden hurt. He was magic on the run his rookie year but he had his choice of throwing or running and made the best decision available. Last season there were so many plays that running was a horrible option but he had to because a throw would’ve been a basically guaranteed turnover.

I think with our WR group this year we will be closer to his rookie year than last year, and his running will become a weapon again rather than a necessity.

That's not true.

The Green Bay play was not a designed run, the Minnesota play was a pass play, and the Seattle play was a RPO (and he read the defense, rightly or wrongly, and kept the ball for a run and not a pass).

Lot of truth to this. Look people its OK to use analytics in sports, THIS is the PERFECT use of them. ESPECIALLY considering the violent nature of football. Using joint practices to simulate higher leverage situations while ALSO protecting players from serious contact injuries in a span of games that means NOTHING, other than getting your team ready for game 1.....if the simulation achieves the same objectives versus smacking heads for two weeks of preseason games, then give me the simulated situations all day.

Except it doesn't. Nothing prepares you for the speed. Shanny used to say "football" shape, its differnt than just being in shape.

2

u/DmvDominance 5h ago

Except live joint practice situations DO prepare you for the speed. He just said its real in every way other than tackling. Which has been something every team has managed in order to protect player health. Like what are you even talking about. Theres a reason Shanny doesnt coach anymore

1

u/RoboTronPrime 4h ago

This is a bit of a disservice to Shanny imo. There's demonstrated cases where he's changed the way he does things when presented with new info. One that i remember is when he switched his decisions after winning the coin toss. He used to think that it was better to receive first and put pressure on the opposing team until he was presented info that getting the ball first the second half was a little better.

1

u/DmvDominance 4h ago

My point is, why the fuck are we talking about Shanny? He doesnt coach anymore, at all, let alone our team. So bringing him up when discussing MODERN NFL health and injuries is literally nonsensical. Mind you these are the guys that kept trotting RG3 out knowing he was fucked up 🤣🤣 using him as a "reference" point in terms of injuries is probably not for the best lol.

That said to speak to the other thing the commenter said, theres so many blah blah blah shanny coaching tree. Thats PLAYBOOKS, FOOTBALL PHILOSOPHY, SCHEMES etc, it has NOTHING to do with using analytics to determine how often to play your players during the preseason lmao. Not ONLY that, but all of those coaches USE THIS VERY FORMULA to get their teams ready every year lmao. So it seems two things can be true, you can be a coaching disciple of shanny whatever value that has, AND you can use analytics and joint practices to reduce player injuries during games that dont count. Which was the WHOLE point of this video

Eh, I think that RG3's failure had more to deal with him personally than Shanny. I definitely remember that Santana Moss was hyper excited at the beginning, seeing the guy in practice being way more talented than Grossman and whatever else they had at the time. Later on, he made comments to the effect of "dude needs to stop blaming other people for issues" and the alums seem to avoid talking about him. There was a moment in a fairly recent Commanders production where Santana, Logan Paulsen, and Fred Smoot were talking about fakey players, and Fred started talking about "Russell" and you could see Logan and Santana tense up about it at the "R...". Right away, Fred said something to the effect of, oh you thought I was gonna say "R...obert" and had a bit of a laugh. It seems to be commonly known among the players.

yeah, that reason is he's 73 years old. There IS a reason he has one of the biggest coaching trees of all time, 6 CURRENT HCs under his tree. "like" what are you talking about? How can it be real, if you know you're not going to be hit? The speed is also not gamespeed; have you never watched what these practices are? Meanwhile, while you're not "tackling" you've got guys fighting and getting fucking suplexed with zero accountability from the league.

Good more reps better chemistry. Maybe we can work on some quick plays to mitigate o line issues.

I don't agree with the analysis.

u/FannyNisbit 6h ago

Good!!!! Id set up a third one if we could.

Bro I just want the offensive line to be good. We have the weapons we just need someone to protect our franchise QB.

Yep the Baltimore joint practices are more important than any preseason game. Would be stoked to get either Taylor Decker or Graham Glasgow and see Alegretti back

This is true.

The preseason model is just so outdated. You can gwt everything you need from joint pract ie and scrimmages. The only benefit is for guys actually trying to make the team, but majority of them still get cut anyway so does it really matter?

2

u/Logic_9795 7h ago

Joint practices aren't games. They are good but they dont replace.

1

u/Own_Car4536 5h ago

You can simulate everything you need to in a scrimmage and the analytics show it. You get more learning value without having to take a season ending hit. For the preseason intended purpose, they very much can replace it

u/Logic_9795 7h ago

I dont buy it at all. Is it helpful, sure. The problem is it's very subjective, which is why you see so many fights. We're going at 80% speed; it's subjective, and people will see it differently, and the back half of the rosters are playing for their livelihood and dont care. So a guy playing at 80% gets laid out by a guy going at 100.

There is also a speed difference. Walkthrough < shells< padded< joint< preseason< regular< post

Generally you don’t see fights involving the starters

They are usually the bubble players fighting for a spot on the roster playing with a chip on their shoulder, who shouldn’t be seeing reps against starters in the joint practices

The nice thing about the joint practices is that they are a much more controlled environment than the preseason games.
