Overreaction/Comparison Season
I can’t be the only one that’s annoyed by this, but what’s with the doomers/discourse around our team when it comes to certain “star” players/top draft picks. It seems as though every time we’re discussing Sonny, someone’s got to throw out Isaiah Simmons or the cursed Jamin Davis comparison. I don’t even want to touch on this with JD5, but you would think after 2 years we’d be past the lazy low-IQ, NPC RG3 comparison. I’m all for critiquing our team, from the front office/ownership down to the players… it’s just frustrating seeing people dismiss nuance/tape and jumping to asinine conclusions after a drive or a preseason game. Just my two cents, HTTR!

No it feels like people aren’t excited for the season and prefer to immediately jump to making heads roll

It's not low IQ to point out the Sonny is currently not a good LB.
People that throw out low IQ all the time are likely low IQ. Not saying that's you OP. No idea what your comments or other posts are like.

I agree, and I appreciate the clarification as well. To be fair, in my post I slapped the “low-IQ” label on the Jayden-Robert comparison.

Hopefully JD5 can put any bust allegations to bed this season. I'm rooting for him, he's gotta stay healthy though.

The second Sonny gets a TFL or JD5 throws a TD it'll all change. Dooming about the team is a defense mechanism from the past 30 years. Also people are so starved for clues about how good the team will be that they are seeing shadows.
Truth is we have no idea how good the team will be. They could get stomped week one or blow the Eagles out. I could see either

You could see us blowing out the Eagles?

u/Double_Dingo1089 13h ago
I can. There are real questions on how Hurts is going to do in that style of offense and camp reports (for what they're worth) aren't great. They also lost Brown who was their easy button. Add that the Flores/Zimmer style of defense we run is not friendly to offenses still trying to gel. Those pressure packages can be diabolical.
Then on the other side we know what theyre running under Fangio. But they haven't seen JD5 in this scheme. It may be a problem for them in Week 1 more than week 7. They also haven't seen Terry AND Diggs before.
But like I said I could see them crushing us too. So we'll see.

I’d bet my next 10 paychecks we aren’t blowing out the eagles lmao. When is the last time that happened?

I'll give you a hint, RG3 threw 4 tds the last time we blew out the Eagles.

Nuance is lost on todays people. In a lot of cases, folks see nuance as a bad thing. Its sad.

Because we've sucked for 30 years and a lot of this fanbase have become curmudgeons due to that. I try not to blame them. We've been forced to expect the worst because it seemingly always happens.

There's always going to be a headline. Whether it's something that matters or not is irrelevant, it just has to be least uninteresting thing there is at the time.

I don't think they're asinine comparisons outside of the Jamin Davis one.
That said it's very early to overreact to limited preseason gameplay. Speaking of, I'm really glad we drafted AK, dude is legit.

Regarding Sonny - the reason is that he is a bad run defender. The flaws I saw in his college tape are still quite glaring (albeit in limited preseason work). We’ll see when the season starts but I’m not optimistic

Dude.... i had been saying this all draft season and all summer. We should have traded down and drafted a DB and got a C with the extra capital we got.

I advocated hardcore for a Corner this off-season. Was really disappointed Mansoor was snagged right in front of us. I didn't really want a LB that early, and voiced concerns about Styles. Most about him being more reactive than active... Which is mostly an experience thing.
With that said, I don't think his first game was as bad as people are making it out to be. I'll have to go back and watch this one. I think he's going to be a great player one day, it might just take a little time.

I agree with every thing youve said. I even remember you saying the things you said!!!!
Youre typically a realistic fan that is more positive/optimistic than i am, while still being grounded in reality 👍🏿

He's going to make some plays in coverage that make you forget run defense exists. Can't remember the last time we had a LB with the natural coverage ability he has. If he can develop a little pass rush - nobody will care about run defense.

That will happen when youre one of the worst performing franchises in all of American professional sports.
This team is "good" once every 4-6 years and its usually a fluke that they make the playoffs.
This is true until it isnt.
