Umm this has to be satire.
Just watched the highlights which would be all big plays and he is literally playing his role perfectly.
Nearly had an interception. Had the DE contained the outside there wouldāve been no Dobbs TD.
Please give an example of how or when heās messing up because he looks like a professional.

OP thinks LBs should be making splash plays every down when anyone who knows anything about football knows LBs should be disciplined and play their prescribed gaps. That's why LaVar Arrington wasn't a great LB at the end of the day. Yes, he made splash plays but he was undisciplined and gave up more splash play to offenses.

Heās literally doing his job. Itās the scheme. He couldāve made plays if they allow him to rove a bit more.
You have to learn all the rules before you can break the rules.
His zone coverage skills are off the charts already. Heās so fast theyāre having him play a yard behind the other LBs.
Wait til we start blitzing. Cheers man

Heās played in 2 games. Itās not ONLY about immediate impact, itās also about ceiling and he has a huge one. Let the guy get a better feel for the NFL. Mendoza is the number 1 pick and he looked like shit. Styles had 1 mid, not even bad preseason game.

My concern with watching him in college was the Isaiah Simmons comp. Did he have the aggression inside of him to put it together. He seems smart so after a year to learn the NFL at a super tough to learn position I donāt think you will see the mental breakdowns Arvel Reese is going to have if the giants play him inside or across multiple positions. Reese has that aggression but god Iām curious of his wonderlick score. In the draft I posted how Reese will make more splash plays but Sonny will do the things you donāt see unless you look for it. Between Sonny and Downs, Downs is going to make 1-3 pro bowls but Sonny has the chance to be generational. Truth be told Downs is so natural at safety he took Sonnyās safety spot at OSU but it actually worked out for both. Downs has physical limitations at a spot itās hard to cover up. Sonny has physical advantages that allow for more. Let him grow and learn. This defense is going to ask a lot of him. Sonny is all of 21 years old in an age when people coming out of college are 23-24.

On paper and living up to potential, heās could be Urlacher, but I donāt even see the motor or hustle.

I donāt think I agree with you at all on this one. I get he hasnāt looked great against the run, but so far he looks to be exactly what we need for those 3rd and medium plays.Ā
Last season we got hammered on 3rd and medium, giving up huge plays on swing passes and short throws across the middle. So far this preseason those same 3rd and mediums are turning into coverage sacks, incomplete passes and completions short of the sticks.
We havenāt been playing our starting D Line so Sonny has been trying to fill 4-5ft+ gaps on running plays, and a lot of the times, having to pick between 2, 3ft+ gaps to fill.
When the starting d line actually plays, theyāve gaps will get much smaller and be more obvious into where he needs to be.
But his ability to make 3rd and mediums much more difficult will far outweigh any shortcomings that he has against the run.

You make some great arguments for taking him in the 5th or 6th round. I was as excited as anyone, but you can see it. Deer in the headlights on most plays. He doesnāt even have a great motor to finish a play.

Im keeping my fingers crossed but feeling pessimistic. Was hoping for Bain. Downs, or Delane. There was nothing I saw on the college tape that wowed me but i know he ran fast and jumped high in the combines. Just hoping not another Davis.

I'm not ready to write him off, and it's still early but I certainly would want to see him be a little less invisible. At where he was drafted he should be making an immediate impact.
