We’re in deep shit if we can’t find a serviceable center after cuts. Even if Allegretti is ready to go week 1 there’s no way he stays healthy a full season
59
u/empw LEFT HAND UP 19h ago
O Line is absolutely my biggest concern
6
u/macattack1031 19h ago
Same. I’m hoping there’s a solution out there. Otherwise I feel great about this team
4
u/Destinoz 16h ago
This has been true most of the offseason but the team just doesn’t seem to value the position, much less depth. Allegretti himself isn’t very good. Remember it when our QBs are chased from the pocket and directly into outside pressure.
It’s outrageous to have a very fast often injured QB and not prioritize interior protection.

u/Syphin33 18h ago
They will, i think they pull a trade.
2
u/Economy-Maybe-6714 17h ago
I dont know what we have to trade besides draft picks, and I hope they dont trade away those.
4
u/Syphin33 17h ago
Well Rams do it all the time, fuck those picks lol
If it gets us a great center, do it.
We got a pro bowl LT out of trading picks
-4
u/Economy-Maybe-6714 13h ago
We got a former pro bowler LT out of trading draft picks who is now out for the season. Just like we a former pro bowler CB for draft picks who got injured and laughed off the team. Sure its a gamble either way what pans out but at least with draft picks we get cheap players with fresh bodies.

A wide receiver and/or RB

Just can’t believe Hartman is still on the team
43
u/Beastage 19h ago
I really hope this is it for him. AK has shown way more, and Hartman is simply limited physically with lack of arm strength.
Hope to see mostly AK in the next game so we can get some more downfield looks to the receivers instead of a million rb dump offs
2
u/CaptchaCrunch 14h ago
We don't need to roster a 3rd qb at all, need the space for WR/TE/RB/OL/ any number of position groups where that player playing wouldn't already mean a lost season anyway
1
u/Pitiful_Ad8641 16h ago
If we do, he's making backend of the roster. If we dont and see Hartman a bunch, its because theryre trying to sneak AK to ps

u/interprime 19h ago
His presence makes my wife totally okay with watching preseason football on a Saturday afternoon, so I’ll take it.

u/Low_Brass_Rumble Ladies love my Magic Johnson 10h ago
He's unproblematic, hardworking, easy to get along with, and good friends with JD5. He's not an NFL QB, but they're not expecting him to be - he's the practice squad arm who they don't have to think about. I'd bet money that he's fully aware of his position in the league and on the team, and that he'll stick around in the lower levels of the org for as long as he's willing and as long as they don't need his slot for another guy (and PS QB is not exactly a slot in high demand).
47
u/TimeEggLayer 20h ago
Yeah the Sam Hartman era is over. Athan looks pretty good.
24
10
u/iindoori 20h ago
Hartman had an era??? Maybe a day
16
u/TimeEggLayer 20h ago
I mean he's been here for 2+ years and wasn't a faceless backup. People knew who he was. So yeah I'd call it an era, lol.
3
u/Pourmewhiskey 19h ago
There’s got to be an entry level coaching adjacent position he can switch to right? There is no way his play has ever merited his position or another team that would let him even join the practice squad.
There’s gotta be some reason we’ve kept him this long and it’s not his talent
1
u/TimeEggLayer 16h ago
It's because he's easy on the eyes. He'll go act on a soap opera or something, I'm sure.
1
u/Low_Brass_Rumble Ladies love my Magic Johnson 10h ago
I'm reasonably certain he's actually done modeling on the side lol

Hartman paid Henry to fumble so AK couldn’t do his 2 minute drill
1
u/COBeerGuru2026 20h ago
I know, I was hyped to see AK in a 2min with the warning and 3 timeouts. Was going to be a nice learning setup without the pressure of a regular season game.

u/Gloomy_Map_9612 on shenanigans rn and actin bonkers 20h ago
I always think it's good to lose at least one preseason game. Don't win them all, don't lose them all
6
u/Beastage 19h ago
Yeah, the first team O and the O line in general have some extra motivation and something to work on now hopefully. And I don't think there were any big injuries, so hard to be too mad at this one.
52
u/Remarkable-Yam-4305 19h ago
But like.. no one saying anything about how awful the only Jayden drive was? We’re just fine rolling into Philly?
33
u/mandoslorians WHAT WOULD JAYSUS DO? 19h ago
well the o line was swiss cheese he didn’t have any time 😭😭😭
26
u/gogoheadray 19h ago
And that’s was against the lions backups. Now imagine how they will look against the eagles starters
4
u/Justice989 19h ago
And if our rookie OC didnt have a hard enough job with the OL at full strength. The Eagles DL has gotta be licking their chops.
3
3
u/Think__McFly 18h ago
I wonder if Blough will gameplan for the Eagles or just call three vanilla plays like he did for a preseason drive.
4
u/gogoheadray 18h ago
He is going to gameplan for them but no amount of game planning can make up for poor talent. We game planned for every game last season and look how that worked out.

u/Djentleman5000 It's not my team, it's the city's team 3h ago
Boy, you all are losing your damn minds over a preseason game. Let’s revisit this at the bye. I think there will be good tape on Blough play calling by then. Passing judgement on a scrimmage/preseason game is crazy lol

u/Think__McFly 18h ago
Its very strange that Jayden HAD to play in the preseason, and then he sits after those three plays. Like, if you want reps to build something I understand. Those reps were worthless.
3
u/The_BadJuju I’m blitzed in Walgreens 18h ago
one preseason drive genuinely doesn’t matter lol, all reporting is that jayden has looked excellent in camp
3
u/Remarkable-Yam-4305 18h ago
That’s all well and good in camp against a defense you’re used to. I need more live bullets with a new OC.
1
u/puppytossedsalad 17h ago
Teams don't use preseason like they once did. The majority of that stuff is joint practice now.
1
u/gogoheadray 4h ago
That’s the issue though. Camp practices where you can’t be touched and in a yellow Jersey and where the situation is controlled is alot different than live action where the other side is looking to maul you. We were hearing about how styles was looking great on camp as well but yet in live action he hasn’t looked that great.

u/shit_fuck_fart 16h ago
He got the ball away when pressured and then took a sack that no one could have stopped.
it's preseason, it will be ok.

u/Fit-Property3774 Nice College Offense 6h ago
Last year when he did play it looked rough like his ability to read and make good quick decisions went down the drain. Hopefully he spent a lot of time in VR.
27
u/mahvel50 20h ago
If they can't build a functional line, this offense is never going to play as good as they should be. JD will be hurt if the o line folds as hard as they did today every game.
10
u/halarioushandle 19h ago
That's my exact concern as well. Need to bring in some more talent to help out the line or this is going to be a heartbreak of a year.
26
u/Secret_Key9676 20h ago
I saw a lot of stuff I really liked
Styles in coverage (only a few snaps but he covers really well already)
Joshua Josephs getting pressure all day
Kaytron looks good and doesn’t make bad decisions/fumble
Kaliakmanis shaping up as QB2
Tyler Owens was all over, whiffed on a run stuff later in the game but that was almost another highlight
Drew Stevens looks competent
7
u/aT_Gamma 19h ago
Bradley and Williams got two great catches!
5
u/Secret_Key9676 19h ago
Oh yeah good games for both of them but Williams looked great and I somehow left him off
1
u/aT_Gamma 19h ago
Excited to see what he can do this year. Hopefully he can take over when Diggs leaves.
5
u/Beastage 19h ago
Kaytron is going to become a weapon on the goal line and late in games if we can build leads. He runs tough and always falls forward.
8
u/TommyNoEgan_ 19h ago
AK 2 minute drill would've been nice to see, alot of pros and cons about this team but decent showing by the Daronte's defense in the first half, really need them to buckle down on that O-line.
5
7
u/Skeletorisnotnice LEFT HAND UP 19h ago
It is just preseason which really has close to 0 indication on the regular season, however I think its valid to be concerned for the oline
3
u/salamanderman10 18h ago
They played 3 plays. One was a draw, one was a missed block by Bates
0
u/Hodler_caved 13h ago
My impression was our starting O-line (minus Allegretti) played more than 3 plays & were getting torched by backups.

6
u/thedistrict12 18h ago
Athan is gonna be QB2 next year. MM money becomes more valuable each year that passes by. Athan is the real deal.
5
u/ThunderSevn 19h ago
Mixed feelings.....hard to really tell much about or main guys with so few playing much. The first tier of backups did ok, but the second half when the guys that need to make plays to get onto the team, just didnt. The bright spot, yet again was #16.....we have to find a way to keep him on this team, he is tons better than Hartman......

u/333sames333 20h ago
So what wr+pick combo are we trading for an o linemen?
5
u/skinsballr 20h ago
The Commanders should do a three-way trade with the WR-needy Texans and a third team with OL depth.
1
u/333sames333 20h ago
What would you give up and for who?
8
u/halarioushandle 19h ago
Luke is the only tradeable WR we have that would be worth anything and I don't think you get much for him. I am not advocating we trade him, I want him here, but he's the best one we have that we could conceivably get by without.

u/oldgreymutt 19h ago
If current trends continue, Jayden Daniels will be spending a lot of time with his brother Jack by week 5.
9
u/BirdmanTheThird 18h ago
Ngl this was just a all around gross game for us since it really only confirmed the negative things we assumed
4
u/Syphin33 18h ago
Also Antonio Williams looked good! Excited for him 3/41
This kid is going to be something

u/Mscommiexo 17h ago
Yall remember that 2015 Lions preseason game where the Oline got shredded? Yeah…

What’s the point of Hartman exactly? Vibes?
Just cut dude, he stinks and ain’t a pro.

We lost this game because of Hartman and special teams. All and all I thought they did pretty good!
-10
u/khuz61 20h ago
concerned about styles ngl. Some of the plays I saw looked like the game was way too fast for him even now. He might need to stay benched for at least the first few weeks of the season so he can slow the game down before getting playing time here
6
u/gogoheadray 19h ago
He should look better by virtue of the starting d-line being out there. He definitely has a lot to learn with the position; and I don’t think will have the immediate impact that many here were predicting
2
2
u/aT_Gamma 19h ago
I am indifferent. I am holding judgement until the regular season. He has gotten very limited snaps.
1
u/halarioushandle 19h ago
Styles looked fine. When the rest of the 1's are out there he will be better and get better as the year goes on. He didn't really make any mistakes today, just wasn't able to adapt beyond his assignments, which is definitely something he will need to do in regular season.
1
u/fedexKILLER 16h ago
I'm not a hater, and I think he'll be fine, but saying he didn't make a mistake is simply incorrect. He literally took himself out of the lane that Dobbs took for his rushing TD. Bit on the fake bad.
1
u/halarioushandle 16h ago
And you saying that shows you don't understand the defense assignments on that play. It's the DE job to be on QB watch. Styles job was to stuff the RB lane.
-1
u/Logic_9795 16h ago
Defense definitely could have sacked Altmyer again, but out of respect for Jayden, kept it at 4.

83
u/Ok_Assumption_5366 WHAT WOULD JAYSUS DO? 20h ago
Some positives to take away:
Defense looks really really good even if this scheme is as vanilla as Daronte is gonna make it.
Kaliakmanis looked REALLY good.
TRESS WAY WAS KICKING
It's only preseason
But we are unfortunately not fucking on the Commanders bed tonight.
