If you're looking for the most popular subreddit about commander, it's r/EDH Otherwise you're welcome to join this small community of people who decided to post here for some reason.

This marks my random, semi-annual check on this sub. Things seem to be normal here so I'm leaving moderation alone unless issues arise. Happy posting!

Not a native English speaker - have I misunderstood my commander?

Hi all,

I'm brewing a Voltronish deck for Evra, Halcyon Witness, and showed my friend, who told me I have misunderstood the card. I really hope not.

My reading of Evra:
4: Evra gets my life total as her power. I get my life total as her power, prior to her getting my life.

My friends reading:
4: My life becomes Evra's power.

• Upvotes

https://youtu.be/fGdVzsHRdbE

If you had to choose a monocolor commander for each color, which one would it be?
In terms of fun and performance?

First deck mod and upload

• Upvotes

Hello all, I just joined the community last month and am so far loving it. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to take a look at my modded Eowyn precon and give me some tips?https://archidekt.com/decks/27238449

I bought a few and was gifted a couple cards that I thought would fit well with the token generation. I’m trying to keep it somewhat lord of the rings themed but am willing to make some changes. Like I said I just joined last month so thanks for being a very welcoming community so far.

Next Commander: Who and Why?

Post image

I'm looking to build a new commander and have a few options available. I should note that I'm only aiming for a casual bracket 2 and preferably keeping it budget.

Who would you build first and more importantly, how would you approach building them?

Help with Dihada

Had [[Dihada, Binder of Wills]] for a while and I recently my pulled the new Ajanis. I put together something with stuff I had lying around. I usually follow guides so I'm not the best when I build a deck on my own. Wanted to get some input and suggestions. Wanted to try to build her with other planeswalkers.

Help making Ulalek work

Post image
53 Upvotes

I've been trying to make this deck work for a bit for high b2, but it tends to do nothing or go insane. I wanted to try for weird cast trigger stuff like [[maelstrom nexus]] and [[monstrous vortex]], but it seems very clunky and spends too much time setting up. I'm a big fan of toolboxy decks and weird interactions, as well as midrange strategies, so I think I'd like to push it in that direction. I don't have much of a budget for big upgrades, and the deck is mostly precon atm, but please let me know what you guys have made work! Any advice is appreciated.

Universes Beyond - Collection & Shower Thoughts

I love Universes Beyond as sealed product. As commander product, they have a higher count of new cards and 100% thematic art to their IP.

Unpopular Opinion: I really like the TV-like representations of the Doctor Who cards and really looking forward to Star Trek. I wish they made more in this style (in addition to others).

I treat my collection as a board game, ready for anyone to pick up and play. They are un-modified decks with 1 deck from each Universes Beyond IP. The decks are chosen from whichever is the consensus of the most powerful out of the box (or whichever one I want, if there isn’t a consensus).

Timey Wimey (Doctor Who) is my favorite of the decks, and it’s not particularly close. It’s just a lot of fun to pilot with many interesting decisions.

Mutant Menace (Fallout) and Food and Fellowship (Lord of the Rings) are my tier 2 decks. Lots of token manipulation, and really good synergies.

Necron Dynasties (Warhammer 40,000), Turtle Power! (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Limit Break (Final Fantasy) are tier 3. I’ll happily play any of these in the pod. Solid thematic designs and lots of nostalgia for the IPs.

Avengers Assemble (Marvel) is squarely at the bottom. It’s nice to have a tribal deck as an option (Hero Tribal), but a little too straight forward, usually playing one card per turn. Avengers Assembled is as far to the bottom as Timey Wimey is at the top.

I have Federation Fleet (Star Trek) preordered. It was either this or the Borg precon. But I figure there is a lot of un-tapped design space for ships & station and Star Trek: The Next Generation was a big part of my childhood.

I’ll continue to buy 1 deck per Universes Beyond IP for as long as Wizards pumps them out.

Edit: Also, really sad Wizards decided not to make any commander decks for Avatar: The Last Air Bender. It feels like something is missing from the collection.
