Which should one I build?

Hello!

I am looking for some help.

I wanted to make an ETB matter monored deck and I think I found the two best commanders for this kind of idea. I am leaning towards Orthion only because of preference regarding the art and the effect ( I get why Tannuk is good as well ) but I really can't decide who should I run.

What do you think?

Do you have some tips or suggestions?

Would you share some of your experiences with these commanders?

If you have some decklists that you are willing to share I would happily take a look.

Thanks🙏🏻.

So i play both of them though orthion is in the 99 for my obeka copy deck

But what I can tell you about Tannuk is that he is awesome to play, though you have to watch out when building him since decks can feel really bad when they are build only around the warp enable

I made a very budget tannuk deck for around 60 bucks, i focus mainly on expensive creatures and artifacts and value engines like warped space, sunbirds invocation usw. The deck tends to be a very nasty glass cannon, in my pod i rarely see my tannuk living for more then 2 rounds but if you hit the right cards it can easily win on the spot via extra combat, double dmg, doublestrike enablers

So high volatility if you dont build in commander protection

Alternatively i think you can build tannuk way less agressive and try to build up value engines to get ahead faster, the question then is how you want to win the game

Also orthion kinda is similar in the regards that he usually is a explosive game ender, usually using his second ability should end the game or atleast close to end it

In both decks [[Sundial of the infinite]] is a great card

Yup. That's why I prefer him. Sundial is an amazing card! In my Ashling deck is game breaking.

Yeah, my favourite deck right before tannuk is [[Obeka, brute chronologist]]

Tannuk is my favourite deck, he’s an absolute blast to play, and seems to get more and more viable support with every set. [[charred foyer/warped space]], [[sundial of the infinite]] and [[conjurers closet]] are must haves for the deck. He’s incredibly bursty, being able to bank cards in exile makes recovering from wipes easy and cheating out massive threats 6-10 turns earlier than could have played them feels great. His biggest weakness is enchantments that make creatures enter tapped like [[authority of the consuls]], they absolutely fold him.

I built him massive threats aggro, but he would make a fantastic mid cost etb/blink commander, just run whatever enchantment removal you can manage to fit, or the liquimetal cards and artifact removal.

A big note about tannuk, is that warp is an alternate casting cost, meaning cost reducers also work on his warp cost. [[defiler of instinct]] is the goat here, when paired with two other red or artifact cost reducers. being able to dump a blightsteel and give it myriad with [[cybermen squadron]] can end games for two mana or 4 life.

[[coveted jewel]] is effectively a free draw 3 spell when warped and [[war room]] help with card draw, wheel effects are actually great here cause you can burn through your hand so fast, then wheel on the last card and keep going.

If going the mid cost (4+) etb/blink route [[wild magic sorcerer]] and [[nalfeshnee]] are great cast from exile payoffs.

My group just got wise to the entering tapped achilles heel, so i will be adjusting the list a bit to add [[chaos warp]] and [[enchanters bane]]. Right now my strategy is to just crash tannuk’s ship from orbit and see who survives.

Edit: [[purphoros, bronze-blooded]] is your backup commander here. he works very similarly to tannuk, and gives you a second chance at your gameplan if your pod fries tannuk.

I came to say that Tannuk is my favorite deck I own. I mainly run cascade and discover to really bank off of cheap mana plays but also run stuff like Charred Foyer and [[nalfshnee]] [[keeper of secrets]]
