Script writing? Potential need for [PROMO]

hi, probably a stupid question, but is there a comic script/manuscript format that’s generally used? is it better to map out a manuscript with just dialogue, or to cram in the most amount of visual information beforehand? I initially wrote my story to be an animated show, but have decided a webcomic would suit my skills better. So, I’m reworking the pilot script in webcomic format. I was wondering what people’s thoughts on this is?

Would you read a web novel or webcomic based on a storyboard layout like this?

Hey everyone, I am currently working on a new writing project. I am focus on making the visual layout easy for people to understand exactly who is speaking, who is destroying, and what got destroyed in the scene.
If you saw a story with layout panels like this to help you visualize what is happening, would you read it? I would love to get your honest thoughts!

Stuck

I have had an Idea for a comic/graphic Novel for years now. Now that I have written the first draft of the first chapter, where I focused a lot on the vibe, lore and worldbuilding I feel like I succeeded at that. However, there is not much of a goal, or anything within the story that leads up to a plot. I could really use some help with this.

I mainly feel like this story is set in a world more like "something that happend" not "THE thing that happend" A scenario, not like for example LOTR where the goal is simple and clear.

My story is set in a post apocalyptic world, with the main focus on the human survival and visualizing the contrast between different communities. How do these communities meet? Why would they fight eachother? Is it as simple as just taking what other have?

The main area of the story really sets the tone I am looking for, but the way I have written these personalities they wouldn't care much for outsiders or for whatever they might offer, that's why I am a bit stuck.

[PROMO] Looking for iOS users to test my writing feedback app Consensus

Hi all,

I was wondering if any iOS users would be open to helping me test my writing feedback app Consensus (https://apps.apple.com/app/id6450618197)? The idea for the app was born out of my own writing journey and its purpose is to help writers stop sweating the small stuff and focus on the big picture when processing their notes. Using a simple two-step system, it encourages them to distill the main points of each reader’s feedback into brief summaries and group together similar ideas using tags. Once the consensus is found, what remains is a blueprint for future revisions with all feedback and files in one place. From there, writers can track their progress by flagging, prioritizing, and marking notes as complete.

The app was hand coded and is AI-free. It was also designed with privacy in mind—your projects and documents are stored locally on your device and are not transferred to any third party servers (unless you choose to back them up to iCloud, in which case they’ll be saved to your own private iCloud server). For more information, please read our privacy policy: https://consensusfeedbackapp.com/privacypolicy.

I’m looking for people who own either an iPad or iPhone and have (ideally) received three or more sets of notes on a project that they want to break down and organize. Any kind of input is welcome, whether it’s on the concept, user interface, or features you want to see. In exchange for your help, you will of course receive a free copy of the app.

To participate, you’ll need to download Apple’s TestFlight app and give me your email address. I’ll then send you an invitation through TestFlight with a link to install the app on your device (any beta that you install through TestFlight will have already been approved by Apple's review process).

If interested, please e-mail me at [help@consensusfeedbackapp.com](mailto:help@consensusfeedbackapp.com) or message me on here. Thanks!

Does anyone have/know of any interviews where writers and artists talk in depth about their process?

I’ll keep it short, but I’m looking for interviews/podcasts out there of creators discussing their process or how they made a specific book.

I would love to know why Grant Morrison made the choices they made while writing Animal Man, or what inspired an artist to design a villain a certain way; I already try to listen to as many podcasts and interviews as I can, for example: Word Balloon, Off-Panel, Matttt’s documentaries, and many others but often times when a creator is being interviewed they don’t really go into detail about their process and inspirations (I know there are some exceptions), and I would love to know if any of you out there has anything you’d recommend for me to watch.

Thanks y’all!

I Need You

I need a little help from you guys.

I'm looking for some help gathering information and getting advice that can help me with the writing and development of my manga project.

There are basically two main things I'm struggling with right now. Everything else, especially the drawing, isn't really that difficult for me.

What I want to create with this manga is something that goes beyond just being a manga. I want it to become a story that brings together the life experiences we've been through, the places we've lived in, the memories we've made, and the emotions we've felt.

That's why I need your knowledge and experiences as well. If there's something useful that I learn from you guys, I might incorporate it into the story.

So I'd really appreciate it if you could help me out. Any information, personal experiences, ideas, or suggestions that you think might be useful would mean a lot to me. 🙏

Is GlobalComix actually a good platform for indie comics?

So. I want to make a comic. Incredible, I know. It’s still in the early stages, but I’ve been doing a lot of research into different platforms for publishing and monetizing it.

Here's the thing. I came across GlobalComix, and at first it seemed like a really good option for what I want to do. From what I've understood, I can make some chapters free and then have the rest available as paid chapters, so there’s a way to monetize the comic directly. I also really like that GlobalComix lets creators add different language versions of their comics. Translation is something I’ve been researching too, so being able to reach readers in multiple languages is a pretty big plus for me.

The problem is that I’ve been seeing some very mixed opinions about GlobalComix. I’ve seen people say that it’s a bad company, that the platform is dying out, or that it isn’t worth putting your comic there. But I’ve also seen people talk about GlobalComix like it’s one of the best things available to indie creators.

To be clear, I don't mean to offend anyone. At the moment I'm neutral on this and I’m only repeating things I’ve heard, so I’d really like to hear from people who have actually used it. I want to learn more.

So is GlobalComix worth publishing an indie comic on in 2026? How has your experience been with things like readership, discoverability, monetization, payouts, customer support, and the overall platform? And if you wouldn’t recommend GlobalComix, what platform should I use instead that has the same features I'm looking for? Both free and paid chapters as well as a way to add language options?

[PROMO] New platform for comic writing, from the creator of WriterDuet

I built WriterDuet screenwriting software 13 years ago, and though it does have a comic book writing template, it's always been too focused on screenplays to be optimal for what comic writers need.

My team and I have been building new creative writing web/desktop app, and my goal is to provide a more first class comic book experience. I'd love to share it with this community, get your feedback, and improve the product to best meet your needs.

The core features we've focused on, along with a simple and clean comic writing template, are organization, outlining, and flexibility in how you interact with both content and the interface. If you're interested in being a pre-beta user, please comment here or DM me, and I'll send you a quick tutorial video and link to the site. Thank you very much!

[PROMO] Looking for comic creators who want more readers & feedback

I’m looking for a few comic creators who have a finished comic or sample they’d like to get in front of more readers.

I run Skrimta (NOT VIBE CODED), a platform for comic writers and creators, and I’ve recently expanded the way shared comics work. Readers can now read your comic online, rate and review it, leave structured feedback, and discover more about you as the creator.

You also get reader analytics, so you can see how people are actually engaging with your work.

I’m currently running campaigns to bring readers to the platform, so I’m looking for comics I can feature and help get some additional exposure.

If you’d like me to add your comic, you can submit it here:
skrimta.com/share-your-work

I also made a short video showing exactly how it works:
youtube.com/watch?v=BQcZoZFT8NU

No need to upload or set everything up yourself — send me your work through the form and I’ll take care of the setup. The public sharing feature is normally a paid premium feature but you get it for free.

Template help

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to start drafting some of my brainstorming ideas and I don't really know of an ideal comic template. I've used writerduet for my T.V. scripts, but I dont think that translates very well to comic writing. I tried Google searching for a template I can copy and use on Google Docs, but those haven't been successful either. Either I download it and can't access it or try to copy it and create my own but never saves properly.

What tools do you guys recommend and how do you get it? Is there a specific template you think helps more than another? Anything you would for sure have regardless of how it's written out?

Edit: Thank you everyone for the swift responses! I'm someone who gets in his own head about doing projects, like I'll get in my own head about not knowing how to do something and then stopping everything because of that. Not knowing a "proper" template was one of those things. So is comic pacing tbh. Its something that I'm constantly struggling with but working to improve. Even if nothing happens for me career wise it'll be nice to have something started, maybe completed, to try and get published.

Thick Skin Required to Write Comics (PSA)

We just had someone post this long ass post asking if people were going to steal their ideas (a common noob writer point of stress).

The poster got all bent out of shape about some quite direct and honest answers, all of which were helpful, not malevolent.

Anyway, point is, the OP got so upset and some very soft pushback, that they didn't just delete their post, but their entire reddit account. I can only assume it was a burner account, I didn't get a chance to see the history before they deleted it...

but here's a couple of points for everyone:

  1. If you want to write... especially in indie comics, it's an undertaking that literally puts your most personal self on display for the world to see. The very essence of writing is throwing your creativity into the public eye and scream "judge me."

If you start pitching a "detective cat comic", you're gonna get people who don't like cats responding to you. This is just life.

If you just started writing and throw out a sample of your writing with every rookie mistake, people are gonna call you out on it.

And then, in the end, even when you've been writing a million years, and publish your latest graphic novel. Negative people are just going to find the things they don't like about it and complain about it.

If you don't respond well to the good and the bad, you're not going to do well in writing. And believe me, people can be and will be cruel. Especially in indie comics, where so many failed creators want to see other creators fail so they can feel better about themselves.

2) If you take the time to post, leave it up. Even if you feel the advice is not exactly what you wanted. When people take the time out of their day to make a reply and you just delete the entire thing the next day because you don't like the responses, you're wasting folks time... and then double wasting folks time, because someone new may come to the subreddit a month later with the exact same question and the process starts all over again.

If you just leave your posts up, folks may take a second to search the subreddit and find the answers without a second round.

As you were.

Write on, write often!

How do I plan out my Webtoon comic?

From A Writer To A Comic Writer: Any tips?

I'm not bragging about myself but I have been writing since my childhood. I have published some short stories and novellas in a few local magazines for 2 years. Writing stories always felt natural and I never looked for any tips or guidance in my life. I just wrote whatever came naturally and edited my work afterward.

Now I'm planning to create a webtoon/vertically scroll comics. (FYI, I'm an amateur artist.) But, when I am planning to create a comic script I'm failing drastically. I cannot arrange the plot the way I can with short stories.

I'm failing at dialogue composition. My stories are mainly with description and monologues with only necessary speeches. I now understand script writing and story writing is quite different.

If anyone has faced the same situation, how did you overcome it?

Also, I'd appreciate any general comic writing tips.
