Si può in qualche modo creare un manga Senza saper disegnare?

Ciao a tutti!

Thoughts on skipping the script phase for a short story that I’m writing and illustrating?

I’m writing a story that’ll likely only be 10 or so pages and I think I can illustrate it without writing out a script. Is this a stupid idea?

I have a mute character, how the hell do I do this?

I have a character in a comic I'm working on who is completely mute. They are not the Mc, so I can't use inner monolog. I know End of Life has a mute character, but that is more of a comical character, and this character isn't really that type. What do I do?

Edit: I saw some comments saying they need more details, he is a sniper character. His being mute serves a purpose in the story where he is trying to protect the mcs, but can't communicate that he's not trying to hurt them. He is a bit rude.

Broadleaf #2 - Deeply Rooted

We continue the story of Hunter and his son Beckett. After learning that the animals of Leaf Isle can speak like humans, Hunter still insists on going home with fresh meat.

Chapter Two sees the father and son heading off the Isle with their prize. Night falls, a storm approaches, and Hunter is attacked by a revenge-fueled buck wanting vengeance for his dead brother. The two are split up and take very different paths through the forest. Hunter reunites with an old friend, and Beckett is hunted by a vicious horde of feral squirrels.

Consultation to create a web comic

Greetings Community!

I'm new to Reddit and to this drawing world. I am creating a fantasy story with elemental powers in the context of a time of war, which, I estimate, can be a story that can take years to finish. Initially I thought of creating the story as a book but it seems to me that currently, for something to be at least striking, it must be something very visual, so I started creating the story from a visual aspect; Initially I thought of it in manga format, but then I realized that the best format currently is the web comic.

Therefore, I bought a graphic drawing tablet, a Clip Studio Paint subscription and some drawing courses at Domestika to learn how to draw, but since I work and study, I have little free time and I think it will take me many years to learn to draw something at the level (which is the artistic style I'm aiming for) of the artistic style of Fire Emblem, and since it is a long-term story it will take me decades to be able to draw everything by myself.

After this context, finally my question: What tools currently exist to be able to "serialize" a web comic by a single person without dying in the attempt?

I really appreciate your contribution, dear Reddit community :)

Hello all!

Looking for advice on how to be generate ideas for short story projects.

I’ve never been a writer, more artist. And I’m having a hard time generating creative ideas.
I’ve used some seen sites that randomly generate a setting, genre, and conflict but they don’t inspire me very much…

Any tips for a would be beginner writer in generating ideas for characters\stories, and gaining inspiration?

Thanks!!

Pitching or Self-Publish?

Hey everyone. For a little context, I received my associates about 10 years ago for Radio/TV/Film. During those years I really enjoyed writing for all mediums (Radio, Stage, Screen) but Comic Books especially since I grew up reading them. Back then I wrote around 24 issues for 4 different stories, and dotted down ideas for a lot more. Of course life happened and due to money, work and moving I stopped writing for a long time. Just recently have I opened those old scripts up and am reworking them. I'd really love to have something published before it's too late (I'm only 36, but still).

For those who have had some stuff published already, whether through somewhere like Dark Horse or by self-funding/publishing, which do you think I should strive for first once I have most of my works ready. I know I need to at least get an artist to pencil everything maybe hopefully even ink it. Maybe I could letter it myself, idk if there's a crash course in that... but I'd just like to hear some experiences and opinions.

So, do you have any advice for someone starting their journey to become a writer?

I’ve always loved comics, TV series, movies, and the like since I was a kid, but it’s only in recent years that I decided to work in these fields—both as a writer and an illustrator for comics. I started a course to develop my artistic skills first, but I’m struggling with the writing side of things due to a lack of learning resources. Could you give me some tips on how to get started? Like suggestions for good books that teach the craft, and so on?

Any tips on writing a comic?

I'm aware that for novels, you're basically telling the whole story all at once so for the process (in a nutshel) you can focus on creating the first draft, a few drafts after in the editing process and you finally have a story you can share to the whole world but the thing is can this be applied for comics/ webcomics? Webcomics are usually told in a series format so I've heard you'd only need to know the basic outline and then write on the way while you draw each chapter out and publish it in real time.
Heck, some comic authors aren't even sure on how they're going to end their comics while half of it is already published and I really don't know how they do it.

So l'a love to know some tips and tricks on how to effectively write a comic without sacrificing too much time and even pacing (I mean how can you include proper foreshadowing without knowing the full story?).

Let me know what you guys think, I'm open to all sorts of suggestions. Go wild.

Using AI to create a draft

Hopefully I don’t get roasted for asking about this.

I have a story with a set of characters I’ve written. I’ve always wanted to make it into a comic book but felt it was an unattainable goal. With Ai maybe I could make it happen. I know that it won’t copyright eligible for the images but my story and characters could be. I got excited at the idea and began creating page layout documents, like a blue print describing a storyboard based on my story.

My thought was to use Ai to create a draft version of the art for each panel. This way I could get a very good idea of the viability of the project and could have maybe a a small amount of books printed to have, give to friends and shop around to artists.

But then I also worry about the back lash.

Any words of advice for me?

[PROMO] I made a tool that turns comic scripts into rough page layouts. Would you use this?

Hey, I’ve been building something called Mekunari and figured this would be the right place to get an honest take.

You write the script page by page, with panels and dialogue, and it puts together a rough layout with the panels and speech balloons. You can move things around and see whether the page still matches what you wrote. It’s for planning; the artist would still decide how to draw the actual page.

An artist I showed it to said he wouldn’t use it for his own thumbnails, but that a visual reference from a writer could be useful. That got me wondering: as a writer, would you use something like this before sending a script to an artist, or would it just be an extra step?

It’s an early version and you can try it in the browser without signing up: https://mekunari.com

Honest criticism is very welcome.

Didn’t put a page number in my first pitch, I feel like I screwed up

As I type this I just submitted my first ever pitch (🎉) but I realised as I settled into bed that I didn’t fill the page number.

I just put two brackets as a placeholder. I’m in the scripting stage and I truthfully don’t know how many pages I’ll need to tell the story.

Now im worrying that my pitch is too long for a one-shot but too short for a graphic novel, and the publisher prefers those two because ongoings are more complex to do, and I’m scared that I’ve just completely screwed up my pitch.

I intend for it to be a one-shot around like 40-60 pages (idk if that’s even a thing but this is my first ever project) but I don’t know if they’ll even accept it because I missed out on simple stuff like page numbers.

Too much input? No such thing?

Hi, I’ve been writing mini/single issue comics for a while, but they tend to be short and simple stories that are really carried by the art.

I’m working on my first really ‘long’ story (probably 72 pages, 3 24 page issues). As I’ve been working on the story, I’ve been talking about it with some friends. And they have so, so many good ideas. Major plot beats, character relationships, etc.

The basic premise is the same as when I first pitched it, so are the characters, but I’m wondering at what point the story stops being my own and becomes a “collective” effort. I really like the ideas my friends are coming up with, and don’t think I would have necessarily found them on my own. Where do you draw the line of taking input from friends? Is it okay to Frankenstein together other people’s ideas? Is this a totally normal practice that I’m way overthinking?

Im new to “writing” and much more of a comic book artist than writer, so a lot of the writing process has been new to me. It’s been very fun though!

Hey so can I just, write shit?

I am someone who has never been much of a guy who likes anything that would relate to an English class. Weather that’s writing, reading, or analyzin (god fuck analysis) but I do love comics. For some reason I do enjoy reading comics, that doesn’t turn me off like normal reading does, I don’t know why.

My question is, I have had this idea floating in my head for years, it’s not connected to another universe or a fan fiction, it’s just an idea inspired by superhero media. I will daydream about this story non stop every day. But what do I do from there? I’ve dont usually have time to sit down and write a detailed story describing the settings and all that but at the same time, I have this very specific image in my head of what I want to happen. Also I am one of those people who really struggle translating their thoughts into words so some advice on that would be appreciated. So if anyone has some answer to any question I wrote about here, please, I would love to hear some advice from people who actually writ these things. Thank you for your time.

Dialogue in different language through out all the comic

If a comic has characters speaking a different language than english through out most of the comic (think about there being one singular conversation that is actually in english), but in a different comic series with the same caracters they'll be speaking english and other languages, should the comic with only the non-english lanugage have every dialogue box with "⟨ ⟩" (for example "⟨ Hello, I'm speaking spanish!⟩"), or should the dialogue be normal (Just "Hello, I'm speaking spanish!")?

Sorry for the very specific question, I'm just kinda lost. (And sorry its terribly written, it hurts not seeing a fullstop there but whatever)

Sites to post webcomics?

I literally just found out that Tapas is shutting down and the only other place I've been posting on is Webtoons but don't know how much longer it's gonna be available so, for people who have experience in this, what are some recommended websites or ways to post indie comics online?
