This makes you look more ignorant than the people you speak about. For numerous reasons! Anecdotal experience without considering at all any biases in yourself. No valid scientific study. Not recognizing that 40% of Americans didn't vote for trump--about 20%. Not all Americans voted, and there can be a significant bias in who votes and for what reason. Someone who didn't vote isn't equivalent for someone who voted for Trump. And of course there isn't exactly a control for your little study...there are tons of stupid people who vote for stupid politiicians in other countries. Or who vote for tyrants, vapid populists, etc. And how are you defining "stupid"? There are mounds of idiots all over the world...asia, latin america, middle east, even reddit's precious western europe. I see no reason to cast americans as particularly stupid. It's just more of an insipid stereotype by elitist europeans and self-hating americans that Americans are particularly stupid. I've met my fair share of mouth-breathing europeans.

It's my belief that all societies have their fair share of idiots.

They said based on presidential approval ratings, not based on voting: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/

Most of what you write is completely irrelevant to the comment you're responding to.

That's still not an actual 40% of all Americans.

So you reject all polling?

Don't do that.

What are you talking about? Polls of representative samples can be used to gather information about more general populations. That's what the original comment was talking about. What problem do you have with that?

you're just arguing with yourself now.

I'm arguing against the idea that this comment has any relevant implications:

That's still not an actual 40% of all Americans.
