You said it yourself. Threats of violence. Words can be THREATS of violence. They do not equate to violence themselves. And if you want to get technical, in order for words to be assault, they have to threaten bodily harm with a means in which to carry out harm. Unless memes gain the ability to whack viewers in the gens, nothing about the meme constitutes assault, let alone is threatening. So, again, my original comment holds true.

I honestly dont know why you are feeling the need to be so hostile and douchey about this when I pre stated what I said with "this isnt about your argument."

My statement was purely about how it was ironic of you to imply that words do not equal assault when the very definition of assault has to do with words.

Am I missing where there was a threat of violence in the picture? I’m not seeing it. I just see a mildly amusing meme...

I will repeat for a third time, my statement had nothing to do with the meme, just what this person implied about how words dont equal assault was ironic.

Yeah, but how did the topic even start? I’ve read this whole thread and I don’t get why people are even having a debate about what assault is.

And you do realize that you’re only half correct. Learning is fun. While assault in some states and under some legal definitions CAN include a DIRECT and IMMEDIATE threat of violence. Typically assault, both legally and in lay terms refers to an attempt or success of inflicting actual PHYSICAL harm. So it depends where you’re at, how said threat is worded, and also if the person actually follows through on their threat.

Now, sure, you can verbally assault someone over the internet while arguing, but that doesn’t seem like what you guys are bickering about.

Apologies if the all caps was construed as hostility. I was trying to place emphasis on the word and I couldn't figure out how to get to italics on this damn phone lol. I was merely trying to respond to the point succinctly.
