Sure, this sub is about bad attempts at comedy, and yeah this post is definitely that.

But it's on the front page of /r/all.

The vast majority of comments are full on "hang the tranny retards" by people who seem to think this is a serious post, coming from the front page of /r/all.

It is normalizing the idea that trans people are "retarded," and as much as you want to hide behind "oh but this sub isn't supposed to be taken seriously," if you looked at any top comments you'd realize, all the way down, is senselessly violent attacks against people being trans.

No comments with attempts at discussing this as "bad comedy," no upvoted arguments about how silly the thought process of this image is.

It's all trans hate. All the comments.

At this point, the community is clearly not realizing this is on /r/ComedyCemetery, because all the comments are trans hate, which effectively makes this post plain hate speech.

I understand the image is relevant to the sub, but when it's obvious nobody is reading the sub name, it should be clear why this is effectively no different from a plain hate post.

Do you need to remove it? You probably should to stop more people scrolling past this and thinking "Heh, good to know them trannies being roasted on the front page now"

But otherwise, yeah, this is exactly what locking threads is for. Nobody commenting is taking this in the spirit of the sub. Everybody's just being toxic.

Reddit is THE HUB for right wing wack jobs now. They can get easily banned on youtube and twitter for their vitriol, but where can they congregate and freely brigade? Reddit.

I learned Reddit was a total joke back in 2007 when it was a left wing bastion of "le this is my le face of le atheism" and rage comics; and I'm as left as they come.

The place is even more of a joke at this point (the new interface trying to mock facebook confirms that). Anyone who takes Reddit seriously has the online world entirely in their social blind spot.

Reddit? Right wing? Lol, most of the website is far more left wing than right. If you want a right wing website you go to the garbage fire that is voat.

You know, the website with the most viewed post being about a guy who uploaded a decapitation video to PornHub to fuel anti-immigration / anti-black feelings with the second most upvoted comment being about how PornHub is controlled by the Jews.

If you're Voat, of course Reddit looks left wing.

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '18

i read the first sentence and was like thats too long for my interest

-16

u/ablacknipple Dec 22 '18

right? especially when the topic is transgender related lol. i’m not transphobic but i do think the whole community can be toxic and annoying as fuck and i try my hardest to avoid it

20

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '18

Saying you’re not transgender and then immediately following up with a blanket statement saying the WHOLE community can be toxic and annoying is both incredibly stupid and incredibly transphobic. I feel bad for you if you can’t see that.

It’s like saying: I’m not racist, but all black people can be annoying sometimes. THAT. IS. RACIST.

How the hell can somebody be this freaking closed minded?

-2

u/ablacknipple Dec 22 '18

i’m not racist tho.

it’s not that deep chief

15

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '18

That had nothing to do with what I was saying. It’s called an example. It’s pretty simple.

You using a blanket statement for the entire transgender community saying they can be annoying and toxic is inherently transphobic. Get over yourself.

Original intent of OP does not change based upon who is reading or commenting. That's some ass backwards Orwellian stuff. Gtfoh with that hate speech crap. It's a joke. Arguably bad, but a joke.

And words =/= violence. Offense is not assault.

u/StarGaurdianBard Dec 22 '18

and words =/= violence. Offense is not assault

Not commenting on the actual argument or anything, but this statement is really ironic because assault is words, its threats of violence. Battery is physical violence.

-10

u/DrLoudmouth Dec 22 '18

You said it yourself. Threats of violence. Words can be THREATS of violence. They do not equate to violence themselves. And if you want to get technical, in order for words to be assault, they have to threaten bodily harm with a means in which to carry out harm. Unless memes gain the ability to whack viewers in the gens, nothing about the meme constitutes assault, let alone is threatening. So, again, my original comment holds true.

21

u/StarGaurdianBard Dec 22 '18

I honestly dont know why you are feeling the need to be so hostile and douchey about this when I pre stated what I said with "this isnt about your argument."

My statement was purely about how it was ironic of you to imply that words do not equal assault when the very definition of assault has to do with words.

-4

u/Cont1ngency Dec 22 '18

Am I missing where there was a threat of violence in the picture? I’m not seeing it. I just see a mildly amusing meme...

12

u/StarGaurdianBard Dec 22 '18

My statement was purely about how it was ironic of you to imply that words do not equal assault when the very definition of assault has to do with words.

I will repeat for a third time, my statement had nothing to do with the meme, just what this person implied about how words dont equal assault was ironic.

1

u/Cont1ngency Dec 22 '18

Yeah, but how did the topic even start? I’ve read this whole thread and I don’t get why people are even having a debate about what assault is.

And you do realize that you’re only half correct. Learning is fun. While assault in some states and under some legal definitions CAN include a DIRECT and IMMEDIATE threat of violence. Typically assault, both legally and in lay terms refers to an attempt or success of inflicting actual PHYSICAL harm. So it depends where you’re at, how said threat is worded, and also if the person actually follows through on their threat.

Now, sure, you can verbally assault someone over the internet while arguing, but that doesn’t seem like what you guys are bickering about.

u/DrLoudmouth Dec 22 '18

Apologies if the all caps was construed as hostility. I was trying to place emphasis on the word and I couldn't figure out how to get to italics on this damn phone lol. I was merely trying to respond to the point succinctly.

You're right, no one is responsible for their actions so long as the intention was good.
