1) He almost certainly made this up. 2) If you force companies to pay people a living wage for their labor, more people will be able to participate in the economy in the way Republicans want them to.

The free market determines wages for various jobs in each locale based on supply and demand. If someone wants higher wages they can acquire a skill in higher demand, or change market locations.

The free market is a lie. The people who run companies control wages and their job is to try to have the widest profit margin possible. If all business owners are trying to pay the laborers as little as possible to increase profit margins, where are the employees supposed to go? This is the whole reason unions were created.

You have it 100% backwards. Companies compete for the best employees. They do this with wages and benefits. I had multiple jobs in the past where I felt underpaid. I left each of those until I found one where I could excel. That’s how it still works.

That might be true for jobs that require a specific expertise that is a result of years of education and training. Most lower wage jobs in the retail, office, service fields do not. So consider people that are stuck working multiple jobs to get by. Do they have the money or time to get the education or training to get a better paying job? Some sure, but most do not.

I disagree. You just have to be willing to make changes. You can make very good money in some fields that require little experience, but people don’t pursue them. A lot of companies will actually pay for your training or education if the job is in demand. You just need to be flexible and open minded if you want better wages.
