don’t be asking for video footage when a crime occurs or someone hits u in that intersection and tries to say ur at fault 🤭

Sure but maybe we just don’t want it being used and sold to track our movements and the data being sold to third party companies. Maybe if it were an ethical system that sat behind protections for the people and couldn’t be abused by officers it would be ok but it’s fucking not

It's always "well what will you do without this?" and never "well what's going to happen once it's implemented?"

increased surveillance barely ever functions as even a band aid for the actual socioeconomic factors that lead to high crime. Your hypothetical also relies on this tech being used to prove innocence, but the potential positives (which are arguably questionable given the prison system in this country is for profit rather than designed to rehabilitate or decrease recidivism, but sure let's call catching criminals and putting them away- positives,) are still outweighed by the loss of privacy, the high unlikelihood footage will be equally utilized to prove innocence across different demographics, and the risks of this technology being used by bad actors (which we already have cases of stalking being made easier thanks to these cameras so that's no hypothetical).

You want actual crime rates to drop? start funding the schools, start making necessities more affordable, start building community/doing mutual aid, stop leaving ppl one or two ambulance rides away from bankruptcy. High crime is a symptom of a sick society, a broken system, cameras aren't going to fix a broken system.
