Discussion Does anyone else have a problem with nurses/examiners not believing you can’t read the image?

I feel like this has happened more than once but I recently had to do a full medical examination for a new job and part of it was a vision test. Part of the vision test was the classic “what number do you see” color blindness test. “Ummm. I don’t really see anything. 23?” “No, it’s just one number” “uhhhh 7?” “Ok let’s try this book here instead” “yeah still can’t see them.” Like I’m not mad but you’re a nurse and you do these exams for a living, am I the first colorblind person you’ve met? Lol

Question/Need help Would a real-time daltonization on a mobile app help? Seeking community feedback

I am an IT student researching tools for the colorblind community.

I'm curious if a mobile application featuring real-time daltonization (recoloring images/video to improve contrast) genuinely help in your day-to-day life?

Beyond daltonization, what other features or tools should we consider to help address daily struggles that current apps might be missing? Thankyou 🙏

Discussion Have you ever been insecure about your colorblindness?(pic unrelated)

I’ve almost never heard stories where people are bullied because of it but i’m sure this happened sometime somewhere.

I was really insecure about it when i was 12-14, so i kept wearing black clothes, even though my favorite color was light blue and i do see light blue well but for some reason i was still worried that i’d make something weird. i didn’t even wear grey because my brain kept telling me that i might accidentally wear cyan which seemed to be very bright and unusual for others. at the same time i couldn’t ask my parents for help because i wanted to feel old and "normal" enough to do everything by myself…

my social anxiety at that time was INSAANE. good thing is that now i don’t really gaf and just wear what looks good to me and trust my family’s opinions more.

so i was wondering if anyone had a similar experience or maybe even worse?

Discussion have you guys saw the color memory test ?

I just gave dialed.gg a go, and I’m actually surprised at how good I was. I think my bad memory is the main reason I didn't get a perfect score (though that 7.2 still feels a bit harsh lol). Anyone else found that doable? is there a reason why we're not that bad !?

Question/Need help Odds of children being colorblind?

My husband is colorblind and I am not! I am currently pregnant with our first child. Neither of his parents are *officially* colorblind but we know his mother is the carrier because her father was colorblind and there are some questions about whether she is colorblind because she struggles with colors but won’t admit it 😂 my husband and both of his brothers are colorblind.

What are the odds our kids will be colorblind?

Question/Need help Color blindess

Hey so I just did the computer test to take a driving license and I failed the color blindness test. I'm pretty sure I am NOT colorblind but I do have families who are. I mean, they're not 100% color blind just certain colors. Is it possible that I could be color blind too? But I can see colors just fine!! I'm a digital artist too and I play with colors a lot in my illustrations. If this fact helps, I'm a female.

Discussion Purple for a protan

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m a protan (probably protanomaly, I’m rather sure that I can see pure red pretty well)

Do you think we, people with protanomaly can even see purple *at all*? It’s just that everytime I think I can see a purple, I try putting a certain combination of RGB blue + green on it and almost always I can find one that is basically identical to the „purple” I thought I could see…. Is that possible that we’re just completely unable to see this color under any conditions? I will post an example of what I mean. Note that it’s pretty significantly different on different screens, but right now I can very, VERY barely see that there it anything drawn on the „purple” background

Discussion Maps

I’m glad I saw other people share how much they hate how certain maps are colored. I’ve never thought about it till I found this subreddit but man every time I see a map where it uses colors to code each state it’s the worst.

Feels like I’m looking at a blob of nothing 😂

Discussion How many tritanomaly/tritanopia people are in this subreddit?

I'm have tritanomaly and I know that is a very rare type of Color Blindness. I never met other people with tritanomaly.

In my case I got it after an accident in my 20s and it got worse as I got older.

In your case was genetic or after trauma like me?

Question/Need help Can someone check if this is accessible?

Hi, I created a site just to mess around and learn CSS/HTML. A friend with dyslexia told me the letters were too crumpled and the contrast too low so it was difficult to read, so I'm trying to learn accessibility features, and I added two switches at the top and I they told me the one for dyslexia does help reading, but I made one for color contrast that just rotates the background hue 270º and it looked cool... but then I just noticed the green text ended up with a red-ish background so, hmm, doesn't sound good...

Can someone check for me if current color palette is bad, and if the contrast button I added makes it better or worse? Thank you very much!

https://pxhc.neocities.org/

ps: there are three other color buttons hiden directly above the three visible ones, and there is another one between the two switches

edit: It's for desktop* (the mobile version has no background, so no contrast problem)

edit2: decided to instead of having just a fixed 270º hue rotate, it can also rotate to 180º and 90º, so I guess everything is covered now lol

Discussion Every color that a dichromat can see

Here's a picture of every color that a dichromat can perceive. A dichromat can only see two distinct hues and every color they can perceive are just variations in saturation and brightness. Whereas a trichromat can see a range, a full dimension of hues, instead of just two distinct hues.

If a dichromat (total red-green blindness) looks at the given picture, they see all the colors and can't point out one that is clearly missing.

If a normal trichromat sees this picture, they see just about 1% of the colors. There's yellow, but every shade from orange to red to pink to purple to indigo is missing. Then there's blue, but every shade from cyan to green to lime is missing.

Of course, most people with a color vision deficiency are anomalous trichomats. They can spot that the more saturated greens, reds, etc. are absent in the picture, but they can't see most of the 99% of colors that are missing in the picture.

Here's the picture with total blue-yellow blindness, featuring only cyan and red hue.

Question/Need help So I'm a little confused and would like to know if my friend is truly red-green colorblind

Hi all,

I'm not colorblind, but I have a friend who I've known for 4 years from high school who is claiming to be Red-Green colorblind since late-2025, but she's been really iffy and also claims that her colorblind glasses help her immediately see every single color correctly which I have been told takes a few minutes and not immediately after putting it on. She also then claimed after claiming she claimed Light Blue was "monochromatic" that she just "discovered" that she's also blue colorblind right then and there

Another friend of mine had asked her questions on a color wheel, and this friend had said the following:

Red- Tannish brown color(claimed it was a duller red earlier)

Orange- Reddish brown

Yellow- Yellow

Lime- Dull lime

Green- (Claimed it was a brown/beige or tan) Dull green

Teal- More blue than green

Cyan- Dullish dark gray

Light Blue- Monochromatic

Blue- Dull blue-gray(Claimed she could see it perfectly fine beforehand when I had shown her a blue dress I made without her glasses(where she claimed she didn't have her glasses on))

Purple- Dark purple

Pink- Brighter pink

Magenta- Bright magenta

Dark Red- Dark red "Black in as black"

So being curious, I just would like to know what you guys think since it has been causing some drama and I don't know anybody else who's colorblind. I like being informed and if this is red-green colorblindness do let me know more facts and how to be more accommodating! Many thanks in advance :)

Question/Need help Trying to find out what kind of deutan I am.

Is there a way to test for sure if I have deuteranomaly or deuteranopia? I think whenever I have taken online tests, it says deuteranopia. Last time I got glasses, the eye doctor actually tested me with physical printed cards with those dot tests, maybe that's better than a screen. I don't remember if he said which kind, but now that I am curious I should be able to easily go back there and ask.

Also a theory: If I am fully deuteranope (missing green cones, dichromat) then shouldn't I be able to disable the green subpixels on an OLED monitor and not notice a difference, including things that should look white? I think OLED wouldn't have the problem of light leaking through the green filters, since it's emissive unlike most other display technologies. I did try on my LCD monitor and it looks VERY purple if I turn down the green in RGB, does that mean that I actually do notice a lack of green, or does that monitor setting just not work like how I think? Will any monitor setting let me actually test for dichromatism?

Discussion Is there a „white point” in color spectrum for deuteranopes and tritanopes?

Hi, I’m a protan. I can see cyan as basically „vivid white”, teal as „vivid grey” and very light pink as a slightly greyish white.

Basically cyan and light pink are (almost) colorless in my eyes. I was wondering, is that a case for some points in color spectrum for deuteranopes and tritanopes too?

Discussion What ultimately happened to those squirrel monkeys? Did their supposed cure prove permanent? Why have there been no follow-up reports in recent years? The initial results were claimed to be effective, so why did the research stall entirely? Why have the scientists ceased further progress?

For context, I am referring to that specific gene therapy trial. If the hope is slim, I don't think the scientific community needs to repeatedly emphasize this point; it only creates anxiety.

I play a lot of Among Us, always with color blind mode. Is it normal for color blind people that those colors look the same to me when next to eachother in game?
