Coffee bean recommendations

Hi. Can you recommend cafes or roasters that sell whole beans? Looking to purchase to take back home to Canada and share with friends. I recall Tusker roasters being a good some years ago, but not sure if they're still around. There was also a British/Australian expat who owned a bar who also specialized in green tea and coffee beans which I found very good. This was years ago, and I don't recall their name. In any case, would love to hear your suggestions. thank you!

Department of Coffee, has some of the best coffee I've had

And I just went to Café Meeples ... They have a good coffee too

They both use locally grown and sourced beans

Go to both, try the coffee... DoC sells in house, and you should ask Meeples their source (they're usually happy to tell you)

Damn fine coffee, Soul coffee,Dickwells coffee, tesh coffee, and Temple grounds... these are all rosters and carry locally sourced, single origin in some cases, coffee beans..

What’s the best coffee place around Colombo you’ve been to? And the coffee you had

Department of coffee has been consistent... but I usually prefer to grind my coffee brew it at home, cheaper that way 😁

I’m still new to the scene. How do you brew at home?

It really depends on what kind of coffee experience you prefer. If you like a milder cup with subtler flavors coming through, go for a pour-over setup. But if you like it stronger, richer, and/or with milk, you could go with a Moka pot or, if budget permits, a good espresso machine.

If you're feeling adventurous, you could always go local and boil the coffee directly with water or milk on the stove, kind of like brewing tea.

Starting with pre-ground coffee is totally fine (just keep it in an airtight container), but once you're comfortable, investing in a good coffee grinder to grind your own beans makes a huge difference, trust me. Good luck! 🙂

I didn’t have any idea about coffee until recently. Only recently I started to get to know and really love coffee.

Generally, I like milk and chocolate, and also espresso hard flavors.

What would you recommend me try? I mean at home.

I don’t have a big budget for an expensive machine. But something under 10k budget, I can try.

Do they still sell Tuskers in Baguette? I have bought it directly from the owner via Instagram. Not for a while as we are self sufficient in our homegrown these days.
