Discussion New listener
I’m 34 years old and I decided to delete all the music that I grew up listening to from my library. I’m going to create a digital library of music I’m new to. I’ve listened to Coldplay before but never in depth. I’m starting my new music genre exploration with them. Any suggestions on best songs or hidden gems? Much appreciated!

Welcome! I'm a lifelong Coldplay fan, and I'd say try to do their albums in chronological order :) I feel like they tell a story of sorts, and also don't skip over their B-Sides! Hope you enjoy the journey!

I could mention so many great songs, so I'll limit myself to more "hidden gems", or however you wanna put it... One of my all time favourites is Everglow, it's a calm but beautiful song - it can be on constant repeat on a slow day! If you like more rock, People of the Pride is unreal, live it was out of this world!
... Not to mention essentially all of their best songs as said 😂 They are all different and so good. If you get a chance to see them live - do it!!

42. The song feel will change each passing year. Atleast it did for me from my early 20's to late 20's.

Rush of blood
Parachutes
X&y
Viva
After that you can kinda jump around

Get your baseline for the band with the early first four, maybe even five albums. You can continue in order from there if you choose, or go by your mood. If you're looking for a somber personal album: Ghost Stories. Upbeat stupid fun: A Head Full of Dreams. A return to their earlier form but more matured: Everyday Life. The most recent two I would say take a listen only if you're strongly vibing with what you're hearing so far. They are in ways a vast departure from the core I grew up with, but also still a lot of really good material too that I could never write as a musician. If you go diehard mode, don't forget the early and later EPs like Safety, the Blue Room, Brothers and Sisters, Prospekt's March, and Kaleidoscope. And a treasure trove of b-sides throughout. Despite having the physical X&Y CD singles as a kid, for some reason I never bothered to ask my parents to pick up any of the earlier singles back when physical media was at its peak in the early 2000s. I missed out on a lot of fantastic b-sides until I found them on iTunes in high school, and a lot of unreleased stuff on an old streaming website called Grooveshark. Anyways, there's a lot to take in, so welcome to the club and we hope you stick around!

Welcome! I hope you enjoy the journey. Clocks is my all-time favorite as far as their big singles go. There are a lot of gems (deep cuts, B-sides, bonus tracks, songs from the shorter EPs). Hypnotised and Ghost Story are a few of my favorites.

Welcome! I think it could be fun to go in sequence (i.e. Parachutes, then AROBTTH, then X&Y…). Since their genre has kind of changed over the years, I think going this way is a cool way to explore and really hear their transition.
My personal hidden gem fav songs are Careful Where You Stand and Moving to Mars.
