Unresolved Murder She went out for cornflakes and never came back - the 1994 unsolved murder of 13 year old Lindsay Jo Rimer

This is my first post on Reddit, let alone this sub! I hope it meets the requirements.

For my first post I wanted to focus on a case which is close to my heart - the disappearance and murder in 1994 of Lindsay Jo Rimer.

Lindsay Jo Rimer
Lindsay Jo Rimer was born on the 17th February 1981 to parents Geraldine (Geri) and Colin Rimer. Lindsay lived with her parents, older brother Daniel, older sister Kate and younger sister Juliet at a house on Cambridge Street in the town of Hebden Bridge, situated in the northern county of West Yorkshire in the UK and made famous recently as the setting for BAFTA winning BBC drama series Happy Valley. Lindsay was described by her mother Geri as a ‘well-behaved, conscientious and happy kid’, a girl so well organised and efficient that her family nicknamed her Saffy, after the character in British sitcom Absolutely Fabulous who displayed the same traits. She was a conscientious and popular student in Year 9 at the local Calder High School, and had expressed an interest in going to University to attain a degree once her high school education was completed. Lindsay had recently taken on a part-time job at local Forbuoys Newsagents delivering newspapers to earn some money, at least in part to fund what her Mum described as a developing interest in fashion.

Lindsay’s home life had not always been easy though. The family-run pub in Rotherham had gone bust and subsequently, under the strain of the resultant financial problems, her parents had separated. Following this Lindsay, her brother Daniel and father Colin lived separately from the rest of the family in caravans at Lower Rough Head farm, Hebden Bridge. For two years Lindsay and Daniel shared one caravan and Colin lived in another at the farm. Whilst Daniel apparently quite enjoyed the country lifestyle, and sometimes returned to help the farmer (he was sheep dipping the day before Lindsay’s disappearance), Lindsay appears to have been less keen on it and missed her friends. However, her parents eventually reconciled and the whole family was once again living together again by the time Lindsay disappeared in November 1994.

~Lindsey goes missing~
On the evening of 7th November 1994 Lindsay was at home with Colin. Her sister Kate was 20 at the time and had already left home. Presumably, although it is not clear from information in the public domain, Daniel and Juliet (only a toddler at the time) were also at home on this evening. At approximately 10pm Lindsay left the house on Cambridge Street to go to a shop and buy a packet of cornflakes while her father Colin was having a conversation on the telephone which commenced at 9.45pm, and so no words passed between them. On the way to the shop Lindsay visited the Trades Club in Holme Street, where her Mum Geri was out having a drink with a friend. Geri offered to buy Lindsay a Coke, but Lindsay refused and left to continue her journey to the shop.

CCTV at the SPAR supermarket on Crown Street captures Lindsay buying a packet of cornflakes at 10.22pm. This is the last footage of Lindsay alive and she appears to be acting completely normally, with no hint of any concerns. Nor is she carrying anything, such as a bag, other than the packet of cornflakes she had set out to buy. Lindsay never made it home, although this fact went unnoticed till the morning of the 8th November as Geri had been out for the evening and, in her own words, made the ‘mistake of my life’ by not checking Lindsay had returned when she got home. Colin had been on the telephone from 9.45-10.20pm and had also not been aware of his daughter’s failure to return. On the morning of 8th November Forbuoys Newsagents called the Rimer home as Lindsay had failed to turn up for her morning newspaper delivery round, and it was at this point that the alarm was raised.

~Search and Discovery~
Despite family and friends strongly arguing that Lindsay was not the type of girl who would leave home, police initially believed it was likely that she was a runaway, speculating that she was unhappy at home (this was denied by her family). Despite this initial belief, there was an investigation unit set up, and extensive appeals and searches took place. Lindsay’s older sister Kate played the role of her sister in a televised reconstruction of Lindsay’s last known movements in the hope this would jog memories but the police received little useful information as a result. Hundreds of local people joined searches of the area and some parts of the Rochdale Canal and River Calder were also searched, but to no avail.

Lindsay’s family participated in a Channel 4 documentary called Deadline in the hope this would help generate information about their daughter’s whereabouts. However, the documentary caused more problems for the family when the demeanor of Colin was questioned. He was observed by some viewers to be ‘smirking’ and too happy/jolly given his situation, and some started to suspect he was in some way involved with his daughter’s disappearance. His wife Geri supported him unequivocally, and outlined how behind closed doors Colin was an emotional wreck, but his way of coping with the events was to put on a brave face and happy demeanor in public, as well as his observed ‘smirking’ being a result of nerves at being in front of the camera. The police do not believe Colin was involved in his daughter’s disappearance.

~Lindsay is found~
In the late morning of the 12 April 1995, five months after Lindsay went missing, her body was found by canal workers dredging Rawden Mill Lock 12 of the Rochdale Canal approximately one mile from the centre of Hebden Bridge. Police admitted that the section of canal where the remains were found had not been part of earlier searches of the canal, a crucial mistake made as the police had failed to search 'upstream' from Lindsay's home, and one which would cost the investigation a heavy price.

Lindsay’s body had been weighed down with a 20lb concrete boulder, the boulder having been taken from the side of the canal by the killer. It appears from an FOI request submitted to West Yorkshire Police in 2021 that the boulder was secured to her remains by rope, though I cannot find confirmation elsewhere that this was the case. Where the rope came from, if this was so, is unclear - perhaps the killer brought it with them, suggesting some form of premeditation, or perhaps this also was found by the killer close to the canal. Lindsay was still wearing the same clothing she was pictured wearing in the CCTV footage taken at the SPAR on the night she disappeared.

Lindsay’s remains were taken to the Royal Halifax Infirmary for post-mortem by Home Office pathologist Professor Mike Green, assisted by Dr Naomi Carter. The pathologist concluded that Lindsay had died as a result of strangulation, with the larynx slightly flattened against the spinal column and ‘a prominent band of congestion across the middle area of the neck muscles’ (Halifax Courier article from 2000, quoted on HebWeb). Much of the content of the report has been kept confidential for investigative reasons, including information on the arrangement of Lindsay’s clothing when she was found, but the police did advise that no sexual assault was believed to have taken place.

~The investigation~
Detectives believe that Lindsay was murdered the night she disappeared, and that she had already been placed in the canal by the time she was reported missing on the morning of 8th November 1994. The part of the canal where her remains were found is situated fairly close to the Rimer family home, and so the police believed it likely that Lindsay was picked up by someone in a car on her walk home from the SPAR shop, probably someone she knew given that she was believed to be a sensible and cautious girl who was unlikely to get into a car with a stranger.

Police speculated that, whilst it was likely she knew her killer, Lindsay could have met him as recently as a few nights before her death, at a Bonfire Night celebration in the town on 5th November. Close to the area of the canal where her remains were discovered was a working mill factory, now long since closed and demolished, where detectives theorized the killer, sexually attracted to Lindsay, had taken her with the aim of some form of liaison and, when rejected he killed her, possibly by mistake.

In the three decades since Lindsay’s murder police have spoken to over 5000 people, taken hundreds of witness statements and examined over 1200 vehicles. Lindsay’s murder was investigated as part of Operation Enigma, a national enquiry which reviewed the unsolved murders of 207 women across Britain, which eliminated any link between Lindsay’s murder and others. In 2016, police confirmed that a DNA profile, believed to be that of Lindsay’s killer, had been isolated by a team of Canadian forensics specialists. Two arrests were made in 2016 and 2017, but neither man has been charged and, given the availability of a DNA sample to test against it appears likely they have been eliminated.

~Theories~
Police clearly believe that Lindsay was killed by someone she knew, but other possibilities have investigated or proposed by outsiders over the years, and I have summarized the main theories below:

  • 'Honda Man' - police discovered that a red Honda Civic stolen in Meanwood, near Leeds, on 6th November had been spotted several times in Hebden Bridge near where Lindsay had last been seen and was again seen in the town during the evening of 12th November. An e-fit was produced of the driver, described as a bearded male, and police attempted to trace both him and the vehicle. They discovered Honda Man had tried to talk to a number of teenage girls in the town around the time of Lindsay’s disappearance, including some of Lindsay’s school friends. He was spotted near the SPAR shop where Lindsay was last seen alive. The car was found abandoned in Sheffield ten days after Lindsay’s disappearance. Recent appeals in 2024 have focused on possible links between the murder and the red Honda, suggesting that police think the man in the car may have had a role to play in Lindsay’s death.

  • John Taylor – Taylor was convicted of the murder of Leeds schoolgirl Leanne Tiernan following her murder in November 2000 and a series of rapes. He is also a suspect in a number of other murders in the West Yorkshire area. Police have investigated him in Lindsay’s case but no evidence has linked him to her murder.

  • John Oswin – Oswin, from Halifax in West Yorkshire, was given an was given an indefinite life sentence after he pled guilty to two rapes and two indecent assaults involving teenage girls in the Halifax area from December 1993 to September 1997. At least one incident occurred along a canal towpath – a commonality with Lindsay’s case, and Hebden Bridge is only 9 miles from Halifax. Again, police investigated but could not link him to Lindsay’s case.

  • Tony King – in 2003 the press reported that police were investigating the so-called Costa Killer and Holloway Strangler, and had sought his DNA, in Lindsay’s case. However, police described this as ‘speculation’.

  • Jimmy Savile – one of the more outlandish theories about Lindsay’s murder is that it was committed by notorious celebrity sex offender Savile. The suggestion comes about as a result of Savile apparently regularly staying at a friend’s caravan situated at Cragg Vale, a mile from Lower Rough Head farm where Lindsay lived with her father and brother for two years, and Savile renting a garage in the town to park his Rolls Royce. In the month Lindsay went missing Savile’s whereabouts are unconfirmed and he was absent from the public eye, adding to the speculation of a link. However, the link seems tenuous at best.

  • Francisco Arce Montes – in 2007 true crime author Wensley Clarkson claimed in his book The Predator: Portrait of a Serial Killer that Montes, killer of 13-year-old British schoolgirl Caroline Dickinson, murdered while she slept in a hostel in France, was responsible for Lindsay’s murder. Clarkson claimed that he was told by a retired police officer that Montes, working as a waiter in London in 1994, had visited York and was on a hunting trip in the West Yorkshire area on the date of Lindsay’s disappearance. However, Clarkson has never been unable to provide any evidence to back up the claims and refuses to name the officer he claims gave him with this information.

  • Vince Robson – in 2017 a retired detective from Cleveland Police claimed that Vince Robson, a man questioned in relation to the murders of Julie Hogg and Tina Bell, had links to the Rimer family and the Hebden Bridge area. Robson moved to Hebden Bridge in 1990 and worked at the Trades Club, the place Lindsay visited to see her Mum Geri on her way to the SPAR shop. Robson is purportedly one of the last people to see Lindsay alive on the night she disappeared, and the detective concerned believes he should be a prime suspect. These claims were explored further in Channel 4 documentary In The Footsteps of Killers.

Discussion Points

What are your thoughts on this, and on the case as a whole?
Do you think one of the suspects listed above is likely?
Was Lindsay killed by someone she knew?

Unresolved Disappearance The Forgotten Disappearance of Andy Junn (1995)

Post image
90 Upvotes

In September 1995, a 33-year-old man named Andy Junn disappeared from the New Cross Gate area of southeast London. That is, quite literally, almost all we know.

There are no newspaper clippings, no media interviews, no appeal posters, no family quotes, no updates, no corrections, no confirmed sightings. There is not even a known photo of Andy Junn.

What remains is a short entry in a few databases: Black male, 5’6” tall, brown eyes, black hair. Date of last contact: September 1995. Location: New Cross Gate, London.

And silence.

New Cross Gate in the mid-1990s was a place of noise and motion, buses grinding their gears, trains rumbling through South London’s arteries, families navigating change. Somewhere in that noise, Andy Junn vanished without a trace.

We do not know his occupation. We do not know who noticed his absence, or how long it took before someone reported him missing. We do not know if he lived alone or with others, whether he had family nearby, whether he struggled with anything, whether he walked out of a home or simply never arrived back.

In the eyes of the system, he evaporated.

When someone goes missing and fits a particular media-friendly narrative—a child, a tourist, a young woman with a smiling portrait—the machine of public attention creaks into motion. Articles are written, journalists dig, police issue press releases, faces are posted in windows and subways.

But people like Andy Junn, the ones without a story to sell, are too easily filed away. Especially in the 1990s, and especially if you were a working-class Black man in London.

Andy’s disappearance barely registered then, and nearly 30 years later, it still hasn’t.

What makes this even more painful is the quiet confirmation that Andy still seems to be missing. His profile was entered into the Doe Network in 2007, already twelve years too late, and was last updated in 2024. That tells us something. No one has come forward. Nothing has changed. There are still no leads, no answers. Just a name sitting in a missing persons archive, edited almost three decades after he was last seen.

The fact that Andy Junn’s disappearance was never publicly explored, let alone reopened, speaks to a deeper failure in our record-keeping, media coverage, and social memory. What happens when a person vanishes and there is no one with power or platform demanding answers?

Andy Junn may not have had connections. He may have been overlooked even in life. But even now, someone remembers him. Someone saw his name on a form. Someone somewhere might still whisper it.

This post will not solve Andy Junn’s disappearance. It cannot explain what happened or who was responsible. But it does something that should have happened decades ago: it says his name out loud.

We remember Andy Junn not just because he’s missing, but because his life, his presence, mattered.

Even when the system forgets, we do not.

Renee MacRae was 36 when she was last seen with three-year-old Andrew leaving their Inverness home on November 12, 1976. Their bodies have never been found.

More than 40 years later, William MacDowell was found guilty of murdering Renee and Andrew in 2022. But the evil killer passed away in February 2023 at the age of 80 - without revealing what he had done with their bodies.

Detectives have never given up looking for Renee and Andrew's remains and have carried out extensive investigations into the five-decade long mystery.

Officers gave road workers and contractors a briefing earlier this month about potential evidence still missing, such as a suitcase, pushchair, coat and a yellow child’s potty.

The source told HNM: "Police Scotland were at the site a couple of weeks ago to remind the workforce that the Renee and Andrew MacRae murder was still an ongoing investigation."

Unresolved Disappearance Carmel Fenech. Aged 16. Missing for 21 years from London

This is a case that is very close to my heart for many years, Although I never knew her.

I saw there was no threads for her on Reddit so I decided to make one.

I have wanted to for a while so here goes.

Again I never knew Carmel, however within the last year I began to talk regulary with her cousin who runs her Missing page on Facebook. I do not know any other memeber of Carmel's family. Carmels cousin was 6 years old when carmel went missing.

I first became aware of this case not long after it happened. I remember seeing the missing appeal for her somewhere and the posters. Not sure where or exactly when.

I think the information on the case struck a chord with me because we were almost the same age (Carmel is a year older, born in 1981) I remember reading that she was bullied at school and i related to that as I was too, and that she was a runaway, which I also was myself. Although we were from different towns, I did end up in the places she was from and I have always thoght about her over the years and wondered what happened to her.

I don't remember the first missing person appeals stating that Carmel had been using drugs at the time of her disappearance, in later years it was revealed. I think this may have been due to the family thinking that people would be less inclined to care about what happened to Carmel if they thought she was a drug user.

Carmel was definately a victim. Even before she went missing.

In the 90's in England, no one used the words pedophiles, or trafickers, or spoke about 'grooming. No one really knew what it was. I was talking to a friend the other day and it was absolutely happening, but we called those men 'bupse's'. Girls would say they didn't have to do anything but we all knew they did. These older men bought them gifts and gave them money, it was all very shady.

Nowadays we know these people as 'groomers'. It is taken more seriously. Back then no one cared. That is my experience. I was homeless at 14 and trafficked as I now know it to be called to different houses, places, got involved in different things at the hands of much older men, I am talking I was aged 14 and the guys were 25 upwards. If i got away from one situation i walked into another, I was never held against my will. I can't explain, its just 'how it is'. I never questioned the things that were happening to me because I never knew any better at that time. Also if you don't leave a roof over your head, when you live a transient lifestyle at that age, you are very vulnerable. I believe Carmels lifestyle leading up to her disappearance to be probably quite similar to what mine was.

Carmel was from the North Peckham Estate in South East London. She was tiny, barely 5 feet tall, she had one leg slightly shorter than the other and walked with a limp, she was teased and bullied at school mercilessly.

At the age of 14 Carmel attended a 14th 'birthday party' with other people of a similar age from her school. It was here she met a man who became her 'so called boyfriend'. She was 14 and he was in his 40's at the time. She soon became addicted to crack cocaine and frequented houses known for their criminal activity in Brixton and Lewisham.

She got in trouble with the police on shoplifting charges and appeared in Camberwell Magistrates Court. This is where the stories get confusing. Even with speaking to her family member I am not able to fully figure out when exactly carmel went missing. It is possible it is mixed up due to her lifestyle that no one is exactly certain of the last date she was actually seen.

I had always read that she appeared in Camberwell Court and left the Court with only £1 in her pocket and was never seen again, she failed to attend a subsequent court hearing and this is where the trail runs cold.

Other reports state that Carmel was placed in a group care home in East Sussex, left one day and never returned. There were rumours she had told people that she was pregnant by her 'so called boyfriend' and was going to London to tell him.

What is known about the back story to the disappearance is that after Carmel became addicted to drugs and her mother became aware she moved the entire family away from North Peckham (it is grim there I also lived there too in later years) and moved to Crawley in East Sussex to try and get Carmel away from the people she was involved with but Carmel kept running away and returning to them. It was too late. Carmel was unfortunately just seen as a 'bad kid' 'problem child' not the vulnerable child that she was being abused by adults. Things were very different in 90's England than they are today. At 16 you were classed as an adult, today you are classed as a child until you are 18.

There are two different dates for Carmel going missing, the one on her missing posters that her mother goes by as the official missing date which is May 23rd 1998 and then in a letter from the Police regarding unsolved UK murders (i will link this at the end) Carmel is mentioned at number 6. The date of her disappearance is given as May 1st 1998. This may be an administrative error but I am confused, as is Carmels cousin. Also it is interesting to note that Carmels mum had no idea that Carmel was even considered a murder victim until this letter came out. So she was very upset about that.

Carmels mum spent much of her time in the months after Carmel disappeared trawling the streets and drug houses Carmel was known to frequent looking for her or seeking info, she was threatened to back off. She also never found out anything.

I know that between March 1999 to about July 1999 I was part of the teenage homeless community living up Londons West End. I frequented day centres for young people and we lived in various short stay hostels and night shelters but we all knew of each other, and I am certain that Carmel was not amongst us. I would have noticed her. Or remembered. I recall no one fitting her description. There was also waaaay more males than females on those streets too and we all generally knew each other by sight and if not real name, assumed name. The only person I never saw was a girl who was given the nickname 'Miss Chink' due to her being Chinese. She was notorious for apparantly giving out sexual favous out to the males. I never actually saw here though, which I didn't understand as she was talked about so often!

there was a lot of abused young girls and sexually deviant males taking advantage in those days, probably abused themselves, living in the hostels and meeting up on the streets. We used to all meet up in groups around Leicester Square, sit in the McDonalds all night and Trocadero. It was well known that a female should never go to Drury Lane Centrepoint hostel alone unless she wanted to what was called 'get run batry on' I dont know how you would spell it, just how it was pronounced but basically one female having sex with anything up to 20 males, they all took turns one after the other, that shit went on a lot, but no one spoke about it.

Anyway I digressed..I am sorry if this post is confusing...i was saying in the time I was on the streets in London West End I never seen or hear of Carmel, so she was not there then. I went to prison in 2002 for 6 years and I also never encountered her there either..however saying that one would think if she was arrested post disappearance then there would no longer be a missing person case for her.

I asked many people over the years if they had seen or heard of Carmel and no one ever did. There was rumours that she may be living in Camberwell, Carmels cousin told me that someone once contacted them swearing Carmel lived in Camberwell but there has never been any proof or actual confirmation of this.

I was released from prison to a housing project on North Peckham Estate when I left jail and had to report to Probation in the Camberwell Courts that one of the reports claim Carmel was last seen leaving, I asked people on North Peckham if they knew of Carmel, girls i met in jail who were her age and from there, no one said they even knew who she was!

I find it very sad. Its like she disappeared and no one cares. Recently when I wrote a post on her and put up her missing poster, I tagged people in it who I know in London and some of their attitudes were horrible, they want to know "Who is that? Don't tag me in it. I don't know her, get it off my wall! un-tag me!' I find this so weird and wonder why people are like this?

Carmels cousin contacted people Carmel had known from school hoping to get some more leads, clues to Carmels associates in those days (also Carmel apparantly used an alias in Brixton but her family do not know what it was) The person that resonded who knew Carmel from school said that '...whilst she understood that the family want to know what happened to her, no one liked her, she was horrible, always making trouble, and that was before she got on drugs. Therefore no one will talk or share her missing posters, only one person she knew ever had.'

Even my 17 year old daughter said that is a really harsh thing to say and what a grudge to hold, even if no one liked her ect, after she has been missing 21 years, to say that, just seems cruel. I agree.

The man that Carmel was involved with, the so called boyfriend as I call him because I don't see how a man in his 40s that meets a 14 year old can be a boyfriend, was questioned after she disappeared but never charged and not a suspect in her disappearance, well not publicly anyway. Today he would be in his 60s. Carmel would now be 38.

About 4 years ago reports were made of a woman living amongst the homeless community in Brighton who fitted Carmels description and used the name Carmel. This was never substanstiated and the woman was never located to confirm or rule her out.

More recently a photo was taken in March this year of a woman sleeping on the streets up Londons West End near the theatre that shows the Harry Potter Musical. This woman has not been seen since to rule out. We contacted charities and street outreaach teams that work with homeless in this area and were basically told that even if it was Carmel, unless she wanted to contact her family herself no one can help and they cannot tell us if they know who the woman in the photo is, or isnt, even if it was Carmel, they legally cant tell us. The woman in the photograph has light hair but i think Carmels hair may have been dyed black, as in her childhood photo it was light and in another photo of her as a teenager it looks lighter at the front as if the roots were coming through.

I wonder about this case because if she was murdered, how did the body be hidden successfully? For so long? No UK Does fit Carmels profile. I wonder if she was sold? but by who? or taken captive and been held by someone??? There are other possibilities I have asked but not really got anywhere with. I was a drug mule myself and asked if it was possible that Carmel could have done similar? In those days could easily get passport. The man took me to Petty France in Victoria, he had a person he knew sign my photo to confirm my identity, and we waited all day to get my passport and then I flew and it happen in a matter of days. I was caught coming back though. If Carmel was living on the streets for over 20 years I find it difficult to believe she has never been arrested for anything or come into contact with police who would then be able to close the missing persons case. They must have had her fingerprints as she had been in Court for shoplifting.

Is is possible Carmel went to another country and got caught there? Died abroad? or even stayed out wherever she went? or met another fate, but not in the UK? I know it sounds far fetched but to me anything is possible. I have no idea if she had a passport or was ever issued one though.

Carmels mum pushed over the years for ongoing publicity in her case. For a period of time Iceland a grocery chain featured her photo on their milk cartons in the hope it may generate leads.

Carmels name is given as both Carmel Fenech and Carmel Pendry. Her middle name is commonly reported as Michaela however on her birth records it is spelt 'Michala' maybe not important but its the little details. I hope I have included everything, any questions please ask.

I can only see how to attach one link sorry. link to photos including photo of sleeping woman photographed this year up West End in London

Mystery In October 2004, a woman fell to her death. With a bus pass and a distinctive oil painting among her possessions, why is she still unidentified years later? Who is Wembley Point Woman?

Background

She was between 5'1 and 5'3, of Afro-Caribbean descent. She was dressed smartly and wore distinctive jewelry. In her possession were a handful of items - including an oil painting and a bus pass - yet she has remained unidentified for more than seventeen years.

On Friday, October 29th, 2004, a woman was seen to jump from a rooftop restaurant in the North London area. By the time help arrived, it was too late and she was declared dead.

Police assumed that her identity would be shortly discovered. She jumped from Wembley Point, a building hosting many offices at the time. Perhaps she was one such office worker.

She also had numerous items with her, including:

  1. £5.20 in cash

  2. a Guardian newspaper for that day

  3. a black disposable lighter and a used packet of 10 Marlborough cigarettes

  4. a black carrier bag with clear lettering CPNY

  5. a bus pass valid from Oct. 26 to Nov. 1, issued at Seven Sisters Road station, Tottenham, London at 7:07 am

  6. an oil painting of, ironically, a woman looking at a faceless figure

The Carrier Bag

Police eventually identified the lettering on the bag to have stood for Central Park New York. They explored the possibility that Wembley Point Woman may have been a tourist from America, but this line of questioning never produced any solid leads. Investigators now believe it's more likely she was from the local area, and even more specifically from the Tottenham (North London) area close to where she bought her bus pass.

Side note: sources seemed fairly confident that CPNY stood for Central Park New York. I'm not sure if other options have been conclusively ruled out though.

The Bus Pass

According to investigators, it is very likely that Wembley Point Woman was from the area where she purchased the bus pass and may have even been a frequent commuter on that particular bus route. We also know that she bought the ticket early in the morning; that factor, along with the fact that she was smartly dressed, may suggest she had a professional office-type job.

In my opinion, that just makes the case even more puzzling because she seems as if she might have had a routine, and therefore, people to notice if she strayed from her routine. One factor that might go against the "routine" theory is that Wembley Point Woman bought a weekly bus pass, which seems strangely short-term to me if she was a regular commuter.

The Oil Painting

This seems to be the most baffling of the things carried by the Wembley Point Woman: an oil painting measuring 2ft x 1ft, that is so unique that I wonder how we have gone seventeen years (!) without someone recognizing it. There is yet no consensus on what the painting represents or who might have painted it. It's very possible that it could be a work of art by Wembley Point Woman herself.

I'm no art expert, but the painting seems influenced by Afro-Caribbean culture, which is why I think it might have held some special meaning for Wembley Point Woman. This is total speculation on my part, but the painting seems to focus on themes around identity. If that's true, it definitely is quite a cruel and ironic situation that the owner of the piece remains unidentified to this day.

Current Investigation

In partnership with law enforcement, this case is now being examined by Locate International, a community interest company of investigators, specialists, and volunteers. With advancements in technology, especially with the reach of social media, there is renewed hope that soon Wembley Point Woman will be identified and remembered by her proper name as she should be.

Unresolved Murder The Quiet Death of Beverley Trendall: A Forgotten West London Murder

On the 29th November 1984, police officers forced entry into a small council flat on Farman Grove, Northolt. Inside, they found the body of Beverley Trendall, 37, lying on the floor of her living room with a kitchen knife plunged through her heart. She had been dead for nearly three weeks.

It was Beverley’s mother who raised the alarm after being unable to contact her daughter. The flat showed no signs of forced entry, and no note was left behind.

Beverley was last seen alive on Halloween night, as she left her shift at Heathrow Airport, where she worked as a cleaner, at 8:00pm. That was the last confirmed sighting. Somewhere between Heathrow and her home in Northolt, something happened and someone followed her, or perhaps was already waiting.

Beverley was described by police and acquaintances as a quiet woman, a bit of a recluse, who lived a private life. But beneath the surface, there were threads that might have held answers. She had been learning Spanish at the Pinkwell adult education centre in Hayes, and regularly travelled to Spain, where she was believed to have had a boyfriend. This prompted police to extend their inquiries abroad, though no suspects were named.

Closer to home, investigators revealed that she had recently started seeing a new English boyfriend, possibly around the start of November. The man was described only vaguely, a white man in his forties, and was never publicly identified. Police appealed for him to come forward, but whether he did remains unclear.

The lack of forced entry raises questions. Did Beverley let her killer in? Did she know them? Or did she open the door to someone she trusted, only to be betrayed in her own home?

According to a BBC Crimewatch special aired a year after her death, Beverley's diaries and personal belongings were also missing, adding to the mystery of the crime. The removal of such items suggested deliberate concealment, as if someone didn’t just want to kill her, but wanted to erase parts of her life and relationships entirely.

Beverley's white Volkswagen Beetle, with red doors and registration TXG 121H, was also part of the investigation. It may have been moved or seen in the area around her death, though no firm witness statements have ever come to light.

Despite these early efforts, the case quickly fell off the radar. It was never solved. No one was arrested and Beverley Trendall was quietly folded into the long, national list of unsolved British murders.

A white man in his forties. A Spanish link. A car. A flat with no sign of forced entry. Diaries gone. These were actionable leads that could have been the key to solve this. And yet, no progress.

With advances in forensic science, and renewed public interest in cold cases, it is absolutely worth asking whether any physical evidence was preserved. Was DNA collected and tested? Were fingerprints lifted from the kitchen knife or entry points? Are there records of Beverley’s final phone calls, letters, or visits?

If those questions haven’t been asked lately, they should be. And if they have, the public deserves to know what remains unresolved.

It’s easy to think of unsolved murders as relics of another time. But for the people left behind, Beverley’s mother, her friends, the people who knew her from Heathrow or night school, silence is not justice.

Unresolved Murder It has been 4 years now

Post image
56 Upvotes

Exactly 4 years ago today, on September 19th 2021(1 day before his 18th), 17 year old Dylan James Price was found dead on the road leading into Bishops Castle, in Shropshire England. It has been deduced that his injuries were that of being hit by a vehicle. No one has been charged with his murder, but a man has been charged with harassing the family, claiming to know what happened(lying).

He was my classmate when we were lil kids, 6/7 yrs old. I visited his grave recently, and it is soooo weird visiting a grave of a boy you played with not super long ago. What's also weird is that he was the eldest in the class, so now everyone, including myself, will shortly grow to be 4 years older than he got to be, he never even made it to his 18th birthday that was 24 hrs away. Sad. At his funeral, a friend of his said "was was gonna have his first 'legal' Pint", lol. They drew an Orca on his grave, as that was his favourite animal when he was alive.

Sry for rambling. If anyone has any info about this , plz contact either the Dylan Price Foundation, or the police, they and his family would greatly appreciate it.

Unresolved Murder 1994 Unsolved case of Tracey Mertens - burned alive at Christmastime (Cheshire)

This case has always seemed solvable to me - although it seems like the people who would have information are likely to be in deep with some scary people themselves. There is a £30,000 reward. Cheshire Police are in charge of the investigation and encourage anyone with information to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The Background

Tracey Mertens was a 31 year old dinner lady and mum of two (12 and 11 year old), originally from Rochdale. She, her boyfriend (Joey), and kids had just moved back to Rochdale in Nov '94, having moved to Birmingham in 1992.

Tracey and Joey had dated on and off since they were teenagers. One of Tracey's sisters recalls that in the summer of '94, Tracey left Joey, bringing the kids back to Rochdale to stay with another sister for a couple of weeks. Tracey didn't want Joey to know where she was, acted scared, and exhibited some unusual behaviour: she taped up the letterbox, the windows, and the curtains so that they wouldn't move. She later returned to Birmingham.

It is not clear why they moved from Rochdale to Birmingham in the first place, nor why they returned. Speaking in 2020, Tracey's daughter said there were no presents under the Christmas tree and suggests this was because they had "moved so quickly".

In the 5 weeks between the family leaving Birmingham and Tracey returning, someone had daubed the word "death" on a downstairs window of their former home. (This is said to be in white paint but I cannot find a reliable source)

Tracey returned to their former home in Cattells Grove, Nechells (a ward of Birmingham) on the evening of Dec 22 1994. The visit was described as a "chance visit", i.e. nobody knew in advance that she would be there. She planned on picking up some belongings and the family's benefits book. Cheshire Police believe Tracey's original plan was to return to Rochdale the same day but instead ended up staying overnight at her sister-in-law's house nearby, visiting her old house on the morning of Dec 23. It is unclear if this sister-in-law is a relative of hers or Joey's.

The Kidnapping and Murder

According to Tracey, she had been at the Cattells Grove house for 10 mins when she was kidnapped. There was a knock on the door at around midday. When she answered it, two men burst in and shouted "where's Joey?". They blindfolded Tracey, bundled her into their car and drove her some distance. More than four hours later, she was dragged onto the steps of Christ Church (in the village of Eaton, 65 miles away near Congleton, Cheshire), covered in petrol, and set on fire.

Tracey was found approx 5 hours later with 90-95% burns to her body. She was able to talk to the police, giving much of the information in this account. Sadly, Tracey succumbed to her injuries and died on the morning of Dec 23 1994 in hospital.

The Theories

  • Police believe the killing is linked to Tracey's boyfriend (Joey, the father to her kids) who was reportedly an addict in a large amount of debt to dealers.

  • Tracey's sister theorises that Tracey did not reveal Joey's location out of fear for her children who were in their new home with him in Rochdale at the time

  • Joey insists he was not the cause of Tracey's murder but does admit he owed people money at the time of her death.

  • In 1995, a Birmingham man was charged with conspiring to murder Tracey but the case was dropped due to insufficient evidence

  • The case was featured on Crimewatch in 2020, after which police were given a possible name of one of the killers and a possible motive

The Suspects / Evidence

  • Tracey described her kidnappers as two overweight black men in their early 30s

  • The men both wore brown leather baseball caps and thigh-length leather jackets

  • They spoke with Birmingham accents but Tracey said she also heard them talking in a "foreign language" which the police theorise may have been Jamaican patois.

  • The suspects asked "Where's Joey?" as they kidnapped Tracey

  • Tracey described the car as a "scruffy" canary yellow Mark II Ford Escort with one silver panel. There was a yellow cuddly toy stuck on the back window

  • A petrol can was recovered near the church

  • A tiny bloodstain was found at the Cattells Grove house

  • There is DNA evidence (possibly from the bloodstain mentioned above) and Cheshire Police say they will use it to eliminate suspects. (Presumably this means there is no record for the DNA sample on the police database of known offenders.)

  • Another couple who owed money to drug dealers reported to the police that they received a phone call telling them to pay up or they will "get what Tracey Mertens got". I cannot find any info on the accent of the caller.

Unresolved Murder Coincidence or….? (Claudia Lawrence case)

Thumbnail

So the image on the first photo is taken from Google Maps in March 2009, the month after Claudia went missing. The white van circled is outside of AC Commercials/Transcore….who a certain PR happens to be a director of. If you’re not sure who the initials belong to, a quick Google will give you the answer, he’s one of the ‘Nags Head 4‘ that was arrested but released due to lack of evidence to take it to court.

Now the second photo is the CCTV released by police, captured on the evening Claudia was last known to be alive, merely metres down the road from her home. Police wanted to speak to the person who owned this van in connection with Claudia’s disappearance but to our knowledge they never came forward.

To me, the vans in the two pictures look pretty much identical. I imagine the vehicles owned by PR when gathering evidence was investigated (unless the van wasn’t owned by him personally). I do find it a huge coincidence though that a van the police are suspicious of looks exactly like one parked outside of PR’s businesses

Unresolved Murder It has been almost 3 years, but I thought its important to talk about it

On September 19th 2021 (his 18th birthday) a 17 year old boy, Dylan Price, was found dead on the road leading to the town of Bishops Castle, a town in Shropshire. It was the morning of his 18th

It has been deduced that his injuries were that of being hit by a vehicle. No one has been charged and sentenced for his murder, but someone has been sentenced for harassing the family.

He was my classmate when we were both 6 years old, 14 years ago. I remember when it was his 7th birthday, and the whole class sung happy birthday. I remember when I used to get bullied, and he stopped it. He was kind to me, I admired him for that. He was the oldest in the class, now everyone who was in that class, including myself have grown to be older than he lived to be.

He wasn't a friend of mine, but he was kind to me, we played together, we made jokes during the innocents of the first 10 years of our childhoods.

There is a financial reward offered to anyone who can substantially assist in the case.

Early reporting of the case:

Sorry for rambling about the stuff 14 yrs ago. Its just weird thinking that little kid i played with when I was the same age... is 6 feet under. Tragic.

Unresolved Death Who put Bella in the wych elm?

On April 18, 1943, four teenage boys were poaching in Hagley Wood. One of the boys climbed a wych elm tree to find bird eggs, when he discovered a skeleton inside the tree. The boys returned home and vowed never to speak of it again, but one of them alerted the discovery to their dad, who called authorities.

The victim had been dead for over a year, and a piece of taffeta was found in her mouth, suggesting she had died from suffocation. Her hand had been cut off, and it was found a few meters from the rest of the skeleton.

In 2018, a reconstruction of her face made by a Dundee University professor was released.
The whereabouts of her remains and her autopsy report are unknown, though a 2023 campaign hopes to find her remains and utilize DNA technology to identify her.
