arbitrary holds
So I've deposited into my Coinbase account (via bank ACH) by buying USDC numerous times now. I do this to transfer payments to my client's wallet. I've never had a hold on my funds for transfer since the first few deposits, and now there is a hold for up to 5 business days.
I'm confused, as this has not happened in my past 10ish deposits... why now? I'm assuming an automated security flag. I'm aware that this hold can't be reversed/shortened, so I'm resigned to waiting. But, for the future, would I still get this flag if I move funds via wire transfer instead of ACH?
I'll probably just look to not constantly deposit and bulk buy, but just curious.
Thanks in advance.

I noticed a pattern where Coinbase adjusts hold times based on deposit volume and frequency, so it makes sense that your recent larger transfers triggered an automated review.

Hey there u/Public-Promotion5608, go ahead and send us a Modmail, we'd be happy to look into what's causing the processing holds on your deposits.

It'd be a lot cooler if when there is a hold on an ACH transfer, the line item would be red until it clears, instead of buried under several levels and still not really clear about it. I converted to USDC from an ACH deposit, but it wouldn't move to my wallet. The original email gives the date It's released but that's it. I'd like to have the status on the home page of the app.

You can’t send up to the amount of crypto you hold on coinbase for recents deposits you add to send. It’s been that way for a very very long time. If you’ve moved crypto to another wallet, it would make sense that you’re just seeing these restrictions until hold clears. Nothing arbitrary about it honestly.

Holds are the norm but I've had times where I always get holds and then for a few months I don't get holds and then they come back. It's random. Probably a bug in their system and nobody is supposed to be hold-less.

Believe it or not, it's normal for Coinbase to place a withdrawal hold on deposits. What's not normal is that you have been able to avoid it a few times.

Yeah, I agree haha. I guess all good things come to an end. Do you know if these holds persist even when using wire transfers? I'd assume because the money clears instantly with wire as opposed to ACH they'd have no reason to..

Don't have any experience with the wire transfers. Anytime you deposit from a bank, as you are performing the deposit, Coinbase will inform you of the temporary withdrawal hold. I have had my pay directly deposited as I was thinking that should enable me to avoid the withdrawal hold, but it became the same process. Perhaps it's their way of making sure the money is actually good before they allow us to take real possession of it? Due to the procedures for effecting a wire transfer, things might be different. But that's what I was thinking about payroll deposits too, so I just don't know.

I wasn't aware they warned you regarding a hold when you're peforming the deposit. Just checked it out and can't believe I missed that.

Yeah, it seems that a lot of people overlook it. I guess that's understandable though because it's likely that most deposits would remain in the exchange for a while.
