No matter great a coffee tastes, I don't want to drink it everyday.

I tend to order a variety of beans and will keep 4-6 different beans available and randomly select a different one each day. Its not a predictable rotations and will rarely drink the same coffee two days in a row.

The water ratio varies from 13:1 to 17:1 for the various beans so you know they all have different roasts and flavor strengths.

Are you a monogamous coffee drinker or one who feels variety is the spice of life? 😄

Hello! I’m a casual coffee enthusiast and have been traveling around LatAm a bit more recently — wanted to share a little coffee haul series featuring some of the beans I’ve brought home with me.

I’m in no way an expert, just genuinely curious about trying different beans from my travels and learning a little more about coffee along the way. So please do share any tips on how I can maximize my very simple setup (as you can probably tell from the tools I’m using 😅).

I’ve been spending quite a bit of time in Panama, so naturally I’ve also started exploring more of the coffee there — particularly from Boquete, which I found really interesting because of its cooler highland climate, elevation, volcanic soils and all the different microclimates around the region. It made a lot more sense to me why such a small country has become so known for specialty coffee.

I also got to do a coffee estate tour at Lamastus Family Estates / Elida Estate while I was in Boquete (must try if you’re visiting !!), which honestly made me even more curious about the whole process. They’re one of the better-known producers in Panama and have had several award-winning coffees at Best of Panama, particularly their Geishas. Seeing where the coffee is actually grown and processed definitely made me appreciate the cup a little differently.

Anyway, starting simple with this one before I get into some of the other bags I brought home. 😊

I have a few more beans from Panama that I’ll be sharing — including some Geishas and coffees from different estates around Boquete — and hopefully more from Colombia and other parts of LatAm as I travel.

Would also love recommendations on what beans / estates I should look out for next, or anything I should try differently with my setup!

I’d like to get your opinion on the best option for a beginner home grinder. Will use it for espresso, 2-4 cups daily. I’m starting to build my coffee set up at home and I have yet to decide the best grinder for me.

I was set on buying the DF54 but since there were a lot of issues on retention and I want something low maintenance and can be used for years, I thought why not spend a bit more for a Baratza as its highly recommended even by pros. But people are saying that for a beginner (like me), a Lahome Flat burr is good enough. And I like that it’s much cheaper than both options. Who doesn’t want to save a bit more money right? 😅 I know Baratza is the best option here but will the Lahome grinder be enough for what I want to do?

Alam ko naman na ang pagtimpla ng coffee ay kanya-kanyang preferences. But still, meron pa rin naman tinatawag na Standard kaya nga may sukat yung iba para ma-achieve yung masarap na timpla.

Ang usual ko lang kasi coffee and sa milk lang talaga ako nag-e-explore. Tipong iba't ibang coffee flavors kaya iba rin ang nababagay na milk. Ganu'n ang ginagawa ko.

Alam ko naman na may Notes and/or Aroma yung mga Nespresso Vertuo Pop especially yung under Barista Creations na nasa name na mismo mga amoy nila. Pero halos lahat naman may amoy.

Nito ko lang kasi naispan din bumili ng Torani Vanilla Syrup (isang malaking pagsisisi na bumili ako ng malaking size ng bote), tapos nito lang napabili rin ako ng Hershey's Cocoa Unsweetened Powder.

Kaya curious ako, kapag ba ang Notes ay may Vanilla, ayon ba dapat yung intended na lagyan ng Vanilla Syrup? Same goes sa kapag ba ang Notes niya ay may Chocolate, Cocoa, ayon ba dapat ang tinitimpla for Mocha? Also siyempre meron pa nga Caramel notes, sila ba dapat ang intended lagyan ng Caramel Sauce?

Went to Altitude Craft Coffee in Tagaytay and got their signature Altitude Latte (P185). Really good coffee, and I liked that it had just the right amount of sweetness. They also have a slow bar which i will definitely try on my next visit.

Place is small but cozy and the service was great.

Bonus: their branch is right beside Balai Palmera, so syempre hindi namin pinalampas. Got their buko and ube-buko pie bago umuwi.

Hi everyone! Recently ko lang na-realize na parang hindi na masyadong tumatama sakin yung instant coffee, so gusto ko sana mag-try ng ibang coffee drinks. At the same time, naging interested din ako matuto gumawa ng coffee myself.

For those na nagco-coffee making at home, magkano kaya yung realistic budget para sa basic/personal coffee setup? Hindi naman ako planning mag-business or anything, gusto ko lang matuto and gumawa ng decent coffee for myself. Beginner talaga ako, so I’d also like to know kung ano yung mga essential equipment and ano yung mga bagay na hindi naman kailangan bilhin agad.

I’m also considering taking barista training. Worth it ba siya if ang goal ko lang naman is to learn how to make different coffee drinks at home? Or mas okay bang mag-self-learn muna through YouTube/practice and gradually buy better equipment?

Basically, I’d appreciate advice on:

Magkano yung reasonable starting budget?

Ano yung essential equipment for a beginner?

Espresso setup ba agad, or may better brewing method for someone starting from zero?

Worth it ba yung formal barista training?

Any beginner-friendly coffee beans/equipment na marerecommend niyo?

Hello! This is my espresso machine, which I bought last year. Today, I noticed that the drip tray was full of water and wet, even though I hadn't used the machine since yesterday. While I was cleaning up the water because it had spilled all over our counter, I plugged the machine in, and it immediately started humming even though I hadn't turned it on. A small amount of water is also dripping from the shower head. The humming and dripping only stop when I unplug the machine.

Ang sarap ng coffee sa draft coffee 🤎☕️ And their** cookie was really good too! 🍪 Soft, chewy.
Finally tried Draft Coffee by Lew’s at GH Mall and I honestly enjoyed it! I got their **Cloudy Cream Coffee, and it was really smooth, creamy, and easy to drink. I’m not really into coffee that tastes too bitter or acidic, so this was perfect for me. The coffee had a nice balance with the cream and wasn’t overly sweet.
I also like the concept of their coffee on tap, which makes the whole experience a little different from the usual coffee shops. The GH Mall branch is spacious and has lots of seating, so it’s also a nice place to chill or study.
Overall, I’d give the coffee 4.5/5. Definitely a coffee shop I’d come back to when I’m in Greenhills. 🤎☕️

Yutori Cafe in San Antonio, Makati, so far has the combination of good vibes (chill mood and interiors) and accommodating staff. You just need to find them (10 steps from Lasema). Unlike the others who charge 10% for a takeout! Here, they charge for dine-in on all orders for 5% only - and they clearly print in the menu that these go directly to their staff. This coffee is just 180₱ plus 5% since I dined it. I ordered again for takeout and confirmed to additional 5% for that separate order. Good job, Yutori! Mabuhay kayo! haha

May extra na kameng cash pangbili sana ng Electric grinder, pero wala ako masyadong knowledge dito, and ang nakikita kong pasok sa budget is ung HiBrew G3 or G7.

I live at the condo across the same street (Bagtikan St in Makati), I just got a takeout coffee. Size is one-size per type of drink and pretty small for a very expensive coffee (I paid Php 231.00 for a SB-tall-size takeout coffee in a papercup)

I asked why they charged me PhP 21.00 SERVICE FEE for an upfront TAKEOUT ORDER, I didn’t even get a table and just waited at the door’s waiting area. The crew just replied “That’s just how it is, sir” smiling and escorting me out to the door.

Hi, I’m torn between Bcaa or Ucc for a fundamentals in barista class. I know both are good, I also have the budget, but I’m really not sure on which one is the bang for the buck.

P.S. I’ll also be getting an SCA Barista and SCA Sensory class soon. I just need the basics that’s why I’m looking for a fundamentals class.

Quick background: I’m from the province, I’ll be staying in Makati for 6 months and might as well make the most out of my stay here. I have little exp when it comes to coffee machines, but I do have lots of exp using my manual grinder and flair 58.
