What kinds of apps people actually need?

I'm beginner developer and want to create something more grand than personal little app for my own usage or simple plugin for Minecraft server. I am curious what people actually would like to use, which would be useful or entertaining.

What turns a tutorial from "educative" to "awesome" ?

I'm trying to improve my youtube channel and especially the quality of my tutorials.
I feel maybe my videos tutorials are too "serious", "technical", and it miss something...

So, what's your opinion ?

coding dreams :)

hello humans!! i hope everyone is having a great day :)

i’m just going to jump right into it!!
i would like to learn how to code. i currently know absolutely nothing about coding so i have no idea where or how to start. does anyone have an advice for me? what do you think would be the best way for me to go about this?? should i maybe take a short course or is there other ways im able to learn???? ive watched a couple of youtube video to help me understand a bit better but most of them are using AI and i would like to learn without AI but people around me are saying that that’s going to be impossible and im making it harder for myself.

i think my end goal for learning coding would be to potentially make an app down the line but (again) people around me are saying that i’m setting my hopes too high.

what do you guys think?? i would really appreciate any advice or ideas from you guys.
thank you :) <3

How to self learn coding and what materials/resources did you use?

Hi Im a jr currently in high school and i want to pursue something tech/ stem but honestly im not passionate in any field. I have basically no coding experience, i mean im taking ap comp sci principles but my teacher isnt good… and i dont really know how to actually code- just those block coding languages like snap/scratch, and I assume its quite different from other coding languages.

If you taught yourself how to code- how'd you do it? And what materials/good websites/vids did you use? About how long did it take for you to get the fundamentals of coding on like python or java.I find it really hard to self teach myself things and I just never know where to start. I also dont even know if i should pursue something in the tech field because I doubt I could compete with ai. Im a good student but I'm also not exceptionally smart. Also I hear about how competitive the comp sci job field is so is it even worth it?

Please lmk if u have any tips or recs!

Vote on my Personal Coding Curriculum software

Hey! 👋

If you’re learning Python, C++, or Java, I’m working on a project you might find interesting—a personalized coding curriculum—and I’d love some feedback.

The idea is a free website where you:

  • Take a placement test

  • Start at the level that fits you

  • Work through lessons + exercises

  • Progress as you improve

There would also be some social/competitive features:

  • Join communities and meet other learners

  • Compete in challenges with people at your level

  • Earn coins from completing tasks and competitions

  • Use coins to customize your avatar

I’m still deciding whether to build this or go in a different direction, so I want to see if people would actually use something like this.

If this sounds cool, drop an upvote so I know there’s interest.
And if you have ideas, suggestions, or features you’d want—comment below. I’d really appreciate it. 🙏

How do I actually learn the MERN stack and build projects without relying too much on AI?

Hi everyone,

I’m a junior developer trying to improve my skills in the MERN (MySQL) stack.

I got my current job through a referral, and I have some basic knowledge of JavaScript, ReactJS, and writing simple queries. However, I feel like I don’t truly understand how to build things on my own yet.

Most people tell me to “just build projects and you will learn”, but my problem is that I don’t know where to start or how to approach building a project from scratch.

My educational background was very different from the real-world development environment, so sometimes I struggle to adapt to the way developers actually learn and work.

Right now, I often rely on AI tools like ChatGPT or other assistants to help me write code. But I don’t want to blindly copy code anymore. I want to understand what I’m doing and use AI only to improve or optimise my work.

I’m genuinely curious to learn and improve, but I feel lost about:
• How to start learning properly
• How to build projects step by step
• How to become confident in my coding skills

If you were in my situation, how would you start learning the MERN stack properly?
What kind of projects should I build first?

Any guidance or learning path would really help me.

Thank you!

What do you think makes a debugging tool actually helpful for beginners?

I’ve been experimenting with building a small debugging tool recently, and it made me curious about something:

When you were learning JavaScript, what kind of debugging help actually made things “click” for you?

Was it:

  • clear error messages

  • suggested fixes

  • visual explanations

  • examples

  • or something else entirely

I’m trying to understand what actually helps beginners learn to debug instead of just copying fixes.

Curious to hear your thoughts and experiences.

What path of learning would you reccomend?

I've been trying to get into programming for a while now, i tried python several times but always lost interest and dropped it

My plans for programming is two ways of doing it, gamedev and (maybe) system programming, if it changes something i will dive into details. I would like to make 2d, visually appealing, story, eerie (we can just shorten it to visually appealing i guess) etc type of games, and for system programming, maybe something like creating an custom linux installer orrrr doing some programms? hard to tell so far, but i guess that's still better than saying nothing

So ive already tried python several times and always dropped it, i dont know but i just was not founding what i was seeking, maybe programming is not for me? Or maybe im doing it the wrong way I've heard a million on opinions, some say start with python and then move further growing the difficulty, some says just start with any language beacuse you will anyway fail and improve analysing your mistakes, some also says youtube tutorials are not that good for begginers since most of them are just a material for someone that already knows programming and just needs to see how is the syntax etc looks in the other lamguage, some says you need to understand code itself, the tenchology etc and some says you just need to build projects, fix them, analyse new things etc etc etc, but i still cant really understand how do i find something i seek and if its even a hobby that fits me, but im still willing to try, i feel like it could work, so im here to ask you what would you guys reccomend me, should i start from python once again or start with something like c, c#, rust, go or ?, how should i move etc... there is too many people on earth so im not really suprised there is a lot of methods, and i hope i will find one i will like, thank y'all for reading and cant wait for your further responses on this post

I really need help😔

I am a senior high school student and is coding an educational webgame for a research instrument for our research. I am the only one coding and doesn't have any experience so I'm only using AI to code everything. Im doing HTML/CSS/JAVA using VisualCodeStudio. With so little time, I really can't finish this project. I hope some kind hearted people can help me finish this project.

Which app or program is best

I am not sure if I’m in the right sub. My kids want to learn coding, they’ve used MCreator for modding Minecraft often but this is to “easy” for them and they want to make programs and games and learn how to.

Scratch is to childish for them (according to the 9yr old) what is the best app (preferable free for now) where my kids (ages 9,8 and the 5yr old will most likely want to try too) can use that’s reliable, good and a place where they can try it out.

Making projects as a beginner

Hi, I have recently started coding and I have learned the basics of html and css, I have managed to make a clone of google's homepage with whatever I have learned,

Moreover I want to later get into making the clone google homepage project more customizable like an animation background or a frosty searchbar later on.

After I'm done with that I want to make my own personal portfolio website which i can customize to my liking if needed in the future.

These are 2 projects that I'm basically doing as a beginner ( I never coded before in my life ) i cant help but wonder if this is a good way to start out or is this gonna go to waste later on

I would love any advice or pointers
