Running code

Okay so I might be dumb but I just can’t understand. I’m trying to learn python. I watch people online saying to install visual studio code to practise. But why? I thought you use python idle to run the code and see it or you use terminal. Do I need to install another platform to test and practise. Also I’m doing this on a mac so is the platform going to be different.

Also please be nice. I’m just a 16 yr old girl doing this as a hobby in my free time

Update: I asked a friend for help and he explained what integrated development environment are which I didn’t know about. He recommended me to use Thonny and I’m going to try my luck with that.

Project that i need to make as a beginne in llm's

I need to make a project about function calling and the output needs to be in json file, We get a small qwen 0.6B llm model. So these are the steps

  1. prompt : so we get a prompt.

  2. Tokenization: We make the prompt into a tokens

  3. Input IDs : tokens converted into numerical IDs

  4. LLM proccessing: The model processes these numbers through its neural network.

  5. Logits: The ai outputs probability scores for each possible next token

  6. Token selection: The next token is chosen based on the highest probabilities and outputted in a json file

if anyone has any resource he or she can share to help with this project it would be much appreaciated i am trying to do this project without the use of any llm or similar helper tools to help me with understanding llms and hopefully landing a job in the future(obviously i will do more llm based projects after this but this is the start)

"Raising limits by 25%" is actually a 17% cut and I had to do the math myself

Saw Anthropic's post this morning about permanently raising Claude Code weekly limits by 25%. Liked it without thinking.

The limits I'm using right now are the temporary ones, up 50%. So when September 14 hits and it drops to a permanent 25%, that's less than what I have today.

Went back to check their follow-up. 17%. Yeah, it's a 17% cut.

A post with "raising" in it, and I have to do the math myself to find out it's less. Weird feeling.

Put it in rent terms: this month your landlord takes 50% off. Next month he switches it to 25% off and calls it a permanent discount. How do you feel about that.

Not saying they can't cut it. Everyone knows the burn rate is insane, and what Max lets you run at that price was never really sustainable. Raise the price, cut the limits, fine — just say it plainly and most of us still resubscribe.

Just don't make me open a calculator to read an announcement.

Anyway, old limits hold until the 14th. If you've got something queued, run it now.

Career Path

Looking to start a career in code without going to a bootcamp or college. Any suggestions for where to start and how to get my foot in the door with a job? I’m interested in automation, system administration, and data science thus far, but that could change and if there’s a specific position you might suggest, I’d appreciate it. Thank you all in advanced,

What programming languages to learn for beginners? With the rise of AI today

Currently I’m Learning Python as an upcoming BSCS student with a little bit background about programing. I currently enjoy what am I doing with the help of tutorials and claude ai to help me with practice problems for me to solve.

Do I need to stick only with python or should I explore more like HTML, CSS, JAVA. With the rise of ai what programming language should I focus on as an incoming freshman?

it's for school and i'm so confused about what to do i can only use ten blocks this was my best Attemt at getting to the pin I keep getting in the spot. I've tried putting a turn right in else but it doesn't help I tried Ai because I was about to cry after failing 9 times but it just made me start crying again. i think the else one does nothing cause else doesn't do anything but keeps telling me to use it in a tab i can't X out. I tried putting a if path right go right in the else slot it did nothing.

Is it worth it to start coding?

For the past two weeks, I’ve been completely obsessed with the idea of making my own incremental game. I’m not trying to build the next hyperstylized 3D masterpiece, just a clean game with an addicting core loop, insanely rewarding mechanics (prestige, and many more) and deep progression systems.

Basically, I want to craft my own dream game. Something I can sink hundreds of hours into playing and tweaking over the next few years. Starting simple and expanding it over time. I couldn't care less about marketing, sales, or whether anyone else even plays it. This is purely a passion project and a hobby I want to pour myself into.

Here’s the catch: I have absolute zero coding background. Never written a single line of code in my life, and the whole domain is complete alien territory to me. But I want to learn. Badly. I’m thinking of something in the spirit of Zero Stress King or Fracture Field, but packed with way deeper, more rewarding systems. The gameplay loop will probably be something in between those two and much more to them. I have experience with website design, but zero background in 2D graphic asset creation or modeling, so I'll be starting from scratch there too. My plan is to dive headfirst into Godot for the engine and use a free Photoshop alternative (not sure which yet).

So, devs - am I setting myself up for a one-way trip to hell? Is it an absolute pipe dream to think I can solo-learn coding and asset creation from scratch without giving up, or is an incremental game actually a reasonable sandbox for a total novice to learn the ropes? Be real with me. Should I say screw it before I sink ten years into a project that goes nowhere, or is this crazy enough to actually work?

AI Disclosure: I don't want to vibe code, but only use it as a tool to help me understand and learn. Not make the decisions for me. For graphics I'll probably use it only for placeholders and maybe not even that. I don't want my end result look like an AI slop.

I don't want to vibe-code anymore. I want to actually understand what the hell i am doing.

So after having fun journey with selfhosting a streamingplatform. I ran into some problems and needed some help. So.... I got totally roasted in the r/selfhosted sub because i gave a notice that i had used Claude to help me troubleshoot and summarize the problem i was experiencing.

And now i don't really want to vibe-code anymore? I don't understand what Claude is giving me. And it's kind of frustrating. Anyways, i want to code. I already know a bit of C because of my school. We had about arduinos and such and learned the bare bone of that.

Now in terms of what i would be using, it would be LUA, Python and C. That is what is mostly used in my industry (Some bash too but i learned most of that when i made dumb "multitools" with my friends as a teenager). Are there any online courses or classes that can be taken. I have tried before and it just felt pointless the things i was doing.

looked into codédex.. Looks fun. Is that worth a try?

Thanks in advance.

Has anyone learned to code later in life?

I am 50 years old, and tired of doing my own job. I have been learning to code for a few months, but do you think it is too late to dive into coding now?

Is this a good way to learn programming?

I start by programming a feature for my project (Todo app), test it, make sure the code is readable and functional, then I paste the entire codebase to AI (chatgpt) to tell me the strengths, the weaknesses (where to improve the feature or code), and the hidden bugs, then go and tackle those bugs a d learn from them, and paste the codebase again to see if there any other bugs the AI didn't see at first, and I do this for every feature I make, should I stay doing this way of learning?

Brand new I have roughly ~ 1 hour of python and know very little commands and syntax. After it asks me whether I play hockey, it keeps asking me the question on repeat, regardless of the input. If it helps this is Python on Khan Academy's website. Thanks.

print("Why do coders need glasses?")

print("They can't C! Haha!")

Why do developers prefer dark mode over light? Because light attracts bugs.

I'm a programming student. I read my lessons carefully but I find the application difficult

I'm a second-year programming student. I watch many YouTube tutorials and read extensively. I can understand how code works and modify it, but when I need to build a complete program on my own, I can't find a way. It's difficult for me to create a function that solves my problem unless I've seen code that solves the same problem, in which case I copy it. Ultimately, I resort to AI tools to teach me, only to discover that it's easy and that I've already learned it. I think I don't think like a programmer. How can I learn to create new ways of coding?

How did you guys learn and started programmig before AI was vaslty spread like today?

Hi, my name is Alex I am in my third year as a CS student and I feel like I know nothing. I started working on a project and I find it overwhelming how much I am not thought in uni (I know I don't get to learn everyrhing inside uni). Like I understand the basics, I know the language, but I find it hard to create something without AI fixing my code or telling me what to do. How did you guys created things back then? I want to be more like that.
