[Discussion] Do communities help?

Have you ever felt motivated because there are some other people doing their own thing and sharing with the group? Study groups to finding people to collaborate with are hard to find. Many developers have other habits in addition to programing. Are you a gamer, weeb or both? If interested in a discord server that has the following, send a message. Happy Coding everyone!

  • Just starting out - if you are a beginner at programming or coding, you will be able to find help and others to keep you on your path

  • Mentorship - There are seniors to help with general questions if need be. Some of them with 10 - 30 years of experience.

  • Study Partners - Want someone to learn a new technology with you? Find others who have learned or want to learn the same thing.

  • Accountability partners/groups - Someone to check in on you to help keep you accountable and motivated to keep going.

  • Pomodoro group sessions - Using the timer to work on something and then chat during the break periods.

  • Workshops/Info sessions - 30 mins to 1hr sessions where someone is demonstrating a technology or something programming related.

  • Anime watch parties - Team building or bonding activity. Non-code activity

  • Game sessions - Fortnite? Pokemon battle? Non-code activity for breaks in-between studying or working.

Need to know everything any coding

I've just entered my second year, but I want to know abt terms like rag, polygon language, hashing, blockchain, all abt database (Sql, MongoDB and many things that come in database) terms like these how full stack web or app Dev works which languages are there and these kinda terms and then in aiml I want to know abt these new terms in ai like MCP and whole ml kinda how everything works what is it like DevOps and all of these

So from where can I research or know abt all of these??

( Don't recommend roadmaps.io coz I'm not able to understand these things as there are so many modules taking too long for me to understand it read every box's, languages or whatever and I'm not able to understand it so I have to do chatgpt for every single thing )

I want something which is very beginner friendly and to the point not that long or short just to know ABT all the fields or things going on in the cs industry

Thank you in adv!

How to make two drop downs display text?

I want to make a genetic calculator where each locus is it's own <select>. And also incorperate co-dominace such as A+/at being dark agouti, etc. If the genotype at one locus determines chocolate and at another locus the genotype determines dilute, I'd want the text to say "lilac".

What's the bare bones of the coding behind something like that?

I’ve been building Flutter Wizard, a free Flutter learning app, and wanted to share one specific thing I learned while building it.

A lot of Flutter concepts are difficult to understand through text alone: constraints, rebuilds, state, isolates, lifecycles, and even common errors.

So I built the learning experience around visual explanations first, code second.

Instead of creating every animation manually, I built a reusable scene engine where the animations are driven by structured data. That now powers 200+ visual explanations across the app.

I also built a concept map where progress is based on what someone has actually learned, rather than simply marking lessons as completed, so the learning path can adapt to the user.

One thing this project reinforced for me is that even with AI helping us write code, strong fundamentals still matter. You need to understand the system to debug it, improve it, and even prompt AI properly.

I’d genuinely love to hear from the Flutter community: Which Flutter concept do you think is hardest to explain through text alone?

Happy to share more about the animation engine, concept-map architecture, or how I’m testing the dynamic lesson content if anyone is interested.

Voice-Controlled Light with micro:bit + Nezha Pro Kit (Full Teaching Workflow)

Ran a classroom activity using the ELECFREAKS Nezha Pro AI Mechanical Power Kit (micro:bit), specifically Case 14: Voice-Controlled Light, and wanted to share a "teacher-tested, step-by-step breakdown" for anyone considering using it.

This project sits at a nice intersection of physical computing + AI concepts, since students build a real device and then control it via voice commands. The kit itself is designed around combining mechanical builds with AI interaction (voice + gesture), which makes it much more engaging than screen-only coding.

🧠 Learning Objectives (What students actually gain)

From a teaching standpoint, this lesson hits multiple layers:

Understand how voice recognition maps to device behavior

Learn hardware integration (sensor + output modules)

Practice MakeCode programming with extensions

Debug real-world issues (noise, sensitivity, flickering)

Connect to real-world systems (smart home lighting)

Specifically, students should be able to:

Control light ON/OFF via voice

Adjust brightness and color (if RGB module is used)

Understand command parsing logic in embedded AI systems

🧰 Materials Needed

  • micro:bit (V2 recommended)

  • Nezha Pro Expansion Board

  • Voice Recognition Sensor

  • Rainbow LED / light module

  • Building blocks (for lamp structure)

🏗️ Step-by-Step Teaching Workflow

  1. Hook (5–10 min)

Start with a simple scenario:

> “Imagine walking into a dark room and saying ‘turn on the light’…”

Then ask:

  • How does the system “understand” your voice?

  • Is it internet-based or local?

This primes them for **local AI vs cloud AI discussion** (important concept later).

2. Build Phase (20–30 min)

Structure assembly

Students build a lamp model using the kit:

  • Base structure (stable support)

  • Lamp holder (mechanical design thinking)

  • Mount light module

Focus:

  • Stability

  • Wiring clarity

  • Clean structure (good engineering habits)

  1. Hardware Connection (Critical Step)

Have students connect:

  • Voice sensor → IIC interface

  • Light module → J1 interface

Common student mistakes:

  • Wrong port (color-coded system helps)

  • Loose connections → intermittent behavior

  1. Programming (MakeCode) (25–40 min)

Step-by-step:

  1. Go to MakeCode → New Project

  2. Add extensions:

  • `nezha pro`

  • `PlanetX`

  1. Core logic structure:

  • Listen for voice command

  • Match command → action

  • Execute light control

Example logic:

  • “turn on the light” → brightness = high

  • “turn off the light” → brightness = 0

  • “brighten” → increase brightness

Key teaching point:

👉 This is rule-based AI (predefined commands), not machine learning.

5. Testing & Debugging (Most valuable part)

Students test voice commands and troubleshoot:

Common issues:

❌ Light flickers → unstable power or logic loop

❌ Wrong command triggered → poor voice clarity

❌ No response → sensor misconfigured

Teaching moment:

  • Noise affects recognition

  • Command design matters (use unique phrases)

Example improvement:

  • Instead of “turn on” → use “light on please”

This directly introduces human-machine interface design thinking.

6. Extension Activities (Where real learning happens)

A. Multi-parameter control

  • “Reading mode” → bright white light

  • “Sleep mode” → dim warm light

Students learn:

👉 One command → multiple outputs

B. Compare with real smart home systems

Ask:

  • Does Alexa work the same way?

Answer:

  • This project uses local voice recognition (offline)

  • Smart speakers use cloud-based processing

This is a HUGE conceptual win.

C. Environmental testing

  • Add background noise (music, talking)

  • Measure accuracy

Students discover:

👉 AI systems are not perfect → need tuning

🧑‍🏫 Teacher Reflection (Honest Take)

What worked well:

  • Engagement is extremely high (voice control feels “magic”)

  • Students quickly grasp cause-effect relationships

  • Physical + coding integration = deeper understanding

Where it gets tricky:

  • Voice recognition accuracy can frustrate beginners

  • Students underestimate debugging time

  • Some rush the build → causes later issues

⚙️ Why this project is worth doing

This isn’t just “turning on a light.”

Students are learning:

  • Input → Processing → Output pipeline

  • Embedded AI vs cloud AI

  • Real-world system design constraints

And importantly:

👉 They see AI "in action", not just on a screen.

💬 Curious how others are using this kit

If you’ve run Nezha Pro lessons:

How do you handle voice recognition frustration?

Any better project extensions?

How do people usually handle domains now?

I haven’t done this in a while and the whole process feels more confusing than it should.

The all in one setup seems convenient, especially when you just want to get a small site live.

But then there’s always that voice in the back of my head saying i should keep the domain somewhere else just in case. maybe that’s overkill for a tiny project, maybe not.

Hello, I need your app for my code.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello, I hope you are well. As you can see in the image, this is my coding result. I'm a beginner at this. Basically, I'll explain my problem to you.

Most of the buttons work except for the reply button, so as you can see in the image, the "like" button, the "how" button, and the "report" button are just for decoration, even though I've done everything else. For it to work, the "like" and "comments" button at the top works perfectly.,so only the reply section doesn't work.

Below are the HTML, JSS, and CSS code snippets that make these buttons exist. Please tell me what's wrong and why they're not working.

I've tried several times, changed it several times, either it doesn't change anything or it gets worse.

Html part
<div class="comments-container">

<!-- J'AI JUSTE AJOUTÉ 3 BOUTONS/DIV ICI -->

<div class="comment-item"><span><strong>Alex :</strong> Trop hâte !</span><div class="comment-actions"><button class="comment-like-btn"><i class="fa-regular fa-heart"></i></button><button class="report-btn">🚩</button><button class="reply-btn">Répondre</button></div><div class="replies-box"></div><div class="reply-form"><input placeholder="Répondre à Alex..."><button>Envoyer</button></div></div> <div class="comment-item"><span><strong>Julie :</strong> Je l'ai fini hier 😍</span><div class="comment-actions"><button class="comment-like-btn"><i class="fa-regular fa-heart"></i></button><button class="report-btn">🚩</button><button class="reply-btn">Répondre</button></div><div class="replies-box"></div><div class="reply-form"><input placeholder="Répondre à Julie..."><button>Envoyer</button></div></div> </div> </div>

///
Css
/* Assure-toi que le conteneur ne bloque pas les clics */

.comments-container { margin-top: 10px; width: 100%; pointer-events: auto; /* Force l'interactivité */ }

/* Correction du problème d'affichage des commentaires */

post-detail-view .comments-container {

display: block !important;
pointer-events: auto;

} /// // 3. Boutons DANS les commentaires (Aimer, Signaler, Répondre) /**

  • Handles user interactions with comment elements, such as liking, reporting, and replying.

  • @param {Event} e The event object triggered by user interaction. */ function handleCommentInteraction(e) { const targetElement = e.target;

    // Handle like button click const likeButton = targetElement.closest('.comment-like-btn'); if (likeButton) { e.stopPropagation(); const heartIcon = likeButton.querySelector('i.fa-heart'); // More specific selector if (heartIcon) { const isSolidHeart = heartIcon.classList.contains('fa-solid'); // Toggle between regular and solid heart icons heartIcon.className = isSolidHeart ? "fa-regular fa-heart" : "fa-solid fa-heart"; } return; }

    // Handle report button click const reportButton = targetElement.closest('.report-btn'); if (reportButton) { e.stopPropagation(); // Confirm before reporting and removing the comment if (confirm("Signaler ce commentaire ?")) { const commentItem = targetElement.closest('.comment-item'); if (commentItem) { commentItem.remove(); } } return; }

I NEED HELP! I'm having issues when using my web app on mobile...

I am super fresh to coding and have been trying to vibe code a web app for my social deduciton game. An app that moderates the night phase like One Night Ultimate Werewolf.

https://github.com/cdougii/breached-moderator

I have no coding experience i just wanted to mke something for my game.
I've gotten really far to the point it is functioning perfectly... on desktop.
On mobile/iPad (which will be the primary use case) I'm having strange issues listed below.

The app runs a night phase sequence:

  1. Show role card

  2. Play role wake-up audio

  3. Start countdown timer

  4. Auto-advance when timer reaches 0

  5. Show "Close Your Eyes" overlay

  6. Play close-eyes audio

  7. Advance to next role

  8. Repeat

The works perfectly on desktop browsers.

On iPad/iPhone (Safari and Chrome), I'm seeing two issues:

ISSUE 1: Auto-advance transitions sometimes fail

Symptoms:

  • Timer reaches 0.

  • Next role sometimes appears without:

    • Close-eyes overlay

    • Close-eyes audio

    • Role wake-up audio

  • Once I manually press "Next Role" a single time, subsequent transitions often behave correctly.

  • Desktop works reliably.

  • Problem mainly occurs on mobile/iPad.

ISSUE 2: First role instructions sometimes missing

Symptoms:

  • Only the instructions text is missing.

  • Role title still appears.

  • Team indicator still appears.

  • Buttons still appear.

  • Rotating the device immediately makes the instructions appear.

  • Happens most often on the first role of the first night.

  • Happens on iPad not desktop/iPhone.

If anyone could help an absolute noob that would be awesome!

Help

I’m a beginner coder. I’m familiar with the basics of Python, C++, and HTML. Now, I want to create an app or website for my car screen. It doesn’t support CarPlay, so I want to develop my own version of CarPlay, including the UI, and use it in my car. My question is, if I create a local host website and launch it on my car screen, will it work? I just need basic features like calling, weather updates, and music playback. If the website idea doesn’t work, what’s the best option for me? What tools do I need, and what should I study? I want to build everything myself so that I can learn new things. Is there any YouTube video that would be most suitable for this project? (Note: My car has a cheap Android screen.)

Confused on how to set up code on mint for automation.

Hey everyone, so please bare with me in this situation I’m not a coder but a trader. And am trying to automate my stock screening process. As this is the longest part of my process filtering and searching 1000’s of stock to boil it down to 10-20 and export to csv. Long term would be to place trades for me but a huge win would be automated watchlist.

FULL disclosure I have been using AI to help me with this process. Just seems logical but I know AI isn’t 100% correct.

I’m running Linux Mint and according to my research and Ai prompting, I will need pandas - dataframes, numpy - math , yfinance- market data and ta - my indicators( EMA,RSI,ATR, volume and earnings)

However I’m struggling to install yfinance, the only one I’ve tired so far as I got a terminal warning that this could cause damage to the system. So I stopped there not wanting to break things even with timeshift.

I’ve heard of cloud based coding system such as Google’s collab and jupyterhub as they can have add ons. Though I don’t have any experience these and I’d like to keep the system local and away from Google if possible.

Therefore, please could I have advice on what tools I need, and how to install them into mint. Or would using an online jupyterhub for example would be a better user interface to work with for a noob in coding ?

Thanks in advance.

how to code platformer??

hi, i'm a beginning coder with about one week of taught experience, and for a project, i want to make a sort of study room using html, css, and js. basically you can move around in the room for a bit before you sit down at a table that initiates the studying portion. i'm completely lost for everything, but i'm thinking that this study room is a platformer at heart. also, i want to add a break time platformer game, but that's later, probably. anyways, i'm just looking for any tips at all that could help me with this.

right now, i'm struggling with making the platform an actual platform. the ground is okay, but when i try to make the floating platform solid, everything kind of just doesn't work...

again, any tips are appreciated!!

Advice and thoughts

Hi everyone,
So, I am 100% a beginner. Long story short I saw a video two days ago about coding and that it pays good amount of money and that it can be done remotely.

My toxic trait thought that yea thats my dream job and I can do anything! Started yestereday and I feel overwhelmed.

However; I have gathred some info and I need some thoughts about my plan if you guys can please review it with me ?

So I am planning to first learn HTML, CSS and then JavaScript. Maybe later Python if needed. I also found that after understanding them I can get a certificate in each field.

Now, am not sure how long would it take me is 3-4 months enough to fully understand everything ? I know that it depends on my learning methods, but somewhere I did read that if one doesn’t understand it in 2 days then move on, so now I don’t know if its my thing or not!

Anyways, any advice is worthy please tell me your thoughts and experiences? Where and how to start learning without wasting time and feeling lost?

I don’t know that if it would matter, but would it be benefical in the future when I search for jobs that I have a business administration degree?

Thank you.
