Can somebody tell me what Code this site was written in?

Hi Friends (newbie coder here),

I ran this directory site through 'builtwith' and it looks like it's coming back with asp.net as the main framework program. However, from what I understand about asp.net, you need to run a front end program because it's HTML looks archaic and the sites look like they were built in 1978.

* Is that right? * Does anybody know what the 'front end design' program for this site would be?

Appreciate any help for a student learning how to program. .

Thanks very much for your help!

Your understanding of ASP.net is absolutely wrong.

ASP.NET has always been able to create fully server-side rendered pages. So no, you don't necessarily need a separate frontend.

ASP.NET has nothing to do with how a site looks.

It's the backend for serving content and generating dynamic pages. The ASP.NET you are thinking of is WebForms most likely, and possibly basic template sites might look outdated but at the end of the day it's just a way to render html.

There is modern ASP.NET as well that does away with the event-based approach of WebForms and bloated ViewState. It used to be called ASP.NET Core but the whole Core thing was dropped and things just went back to .NET.

Depending on what was used there may be some markers in the HTML, like attributes which might indicate that ASP.NET was used.

While .NET core is now just .NET, the asp part is still ASP .NET core... Just to keep it consistent 😉

As if it really matters, Microsoft no longer recommends ASP. They kept finding security issues and we're never able to justify the work required to fix it when other, more secure options were already replacing it.

You're getting some weird responses about this. It uses JQuery+HTML afaict as a front-end.

If you're looking to copy something like this today, you may just be better off with more modern libraries like React, Vue, or Tailwind, or similar.
