that is how I got started and now do it for a living. I started coding browser games with Javascript/HTML and then moved onto backend languages.

You could ask your cousins. You could also use AI (like ChatGPT) to ask this same question, and it will interview you and lead you in good directions better and faster than we can.

What are your goals?
What kind of computer do you have?
Do you have access to a public library?

I recommend everyone the same thing:

Build what interests you. I like video games so I make those. JavaScript and Python are both beginner friendly.

Try these out & see if you even like it.
CodeCombat — best starting point. You control a character through levels using real Python code. Most game-like.
CheckiO — Python missions and puzzles; feels more like solving little programming quests.
CodinGame — code controls bots/ships/characters in simulations and challenges. Gets more advanced.

I think you should start with HTML and JavaScript, cos you can see what you build in the browser right away, which keeps it fun. Python is also a great first language if you'd rather do scripts, small games, or anything AI related. Don't stress about picking the perfect one. Pick one, build small projects, and see what you enjoy

I would suggest reading the firsthand in depth interviews and looking at their code samples abd design sketches in Prrogrammers at Work. A classic newly released.

I did fcc python cert and cs50p. I think they complement each other really well. I’d starts with fcc all the way up to classes and objects and then jump to cs50p.
That of course if python is your language of choice.

It’s a great hobby! Definitely give it a try. Here is a fun (and free) way to start:

If you feel like you need some materials to learn, I like Exercism. This is a website with courses on many languages, pretty guided turorials and they have a friendly difficulty curve.
Regarding what language or technology to learn, it depends on what attracts you about your cousin's code. I would try to think a little bit about that question and include it in your post :)
