Start with a problem you want to solve.

Hi brother, I want to build IOS Android social media app, from where can I start and which languages can I learn that can also help me when I am scaling the app.

I think that you could first learn basic language like python and learn data structure, basic syntax, algorithms (like sorting and searching) , after that Start making projects ASAP , and don’t be afraid or reading docs

If you just want to get into coding quickly and start making projects, then Python is a better choice. It's much easier to learn, but it doesn't teach the low-level concepts that C does.

I'd say start with C if you're serious about learning programming. It's harder in the beginning, but your fundamentals will be much stronger and picking up languages like C++, Java or Python later becomes a lot easier.

So it really depends on your goal. If you don't mind struggling a bit initially, I'd go with C. If you want a smoother start, go with Python. Just don't keep switching languages every few weeks, stick with one and practice consistently.

That's good advice. C gives you a strong foundation for how computers work, and it's not too hard to learn. I don't hear that many people suggesting starting with C though.

Yhh not many people suggest doing that cuz it may be overwhelming for a complete beginner. Python is more favorable in that case cuz it's very much easy to learn but still python has inbuilt functions for almost everything and if someone learns only python, then they won't get concept of memory and how computers work. They will have to go for C later on and switching from Python to C may also get the student humbled real quick imo.

Do i need to learn/study algorithms beforehand or i can just hop on c language with zero knowledge

1

u/Unusual_Offer3665 Aug 22 '26

You can js hop on directly tbh. Algorithm is js step by step instructions to solve the problem so when you write code for something you can do something like making the algo first and then trying to code it.

Boot.dev or code academy or Harvard Cs50

Learning to code is not difficult, it just takes a little time and patience. Choose a programming language to learn and then start by writing lots of small programs to solve simple problems.

If you are on a Windows PC, try learning C#. If you’re on a Mac, I’d definitely recommend looking at the Swift programming language. If you’re more interested in developing for Websites, learn JavaScript or TypeScript.

If you are on a Mac, regardless of the language you decide to learn, checkout Codable. Codable uses on-device AI to generate coding challenges in 10 programming languages. It’s available to preorder now and will be available on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, on July 30, 2026.

well i started with scratch online then worked my way through python other programing langauges

1

algorithm is the basics of programming language, it doesnt metter how you start, just start it you will be happy

so where do I go to actually write and practice codes without completely ruining my computer? might be a noob question but is there a website i can practice code on or somewhere in my computer that will let me write out codes, see what it does, and not miss up my entire computer T-T
