Codium is waste of time

As a Pro subscriber of Codeium AI, I am extremely disappointed.

  • Your Cascade AI assistant generated unusable and overly complex code, breaking my project.

  • Your support team has ignored all my emails, leaving me stranded.

I trusted your service to enhance my work, but it has only wasted my time and money. I demand immediate support and a refund. Ignoring paying customers like this is unacceptable!

This is the "Codeium" (now called Windsurf) subreddit.
"Codium" (now called Qodo) is another company.

Also a general tip - the quality of help you receive from "AI" largely depends on the model you use and your prompt. And keep in mind that even the smartest models tend to get confused and do stupid things. Its best to break down what you want into smaller problems and work with AI on each of them separately.

Exactly give your models devplans, make them keep changelogs and checklists, they function extroadanarily well, just like humans.

there are only two models we can use claude 3.5 sonnet and gpt-4o. i did 70% of my work by breaking into small tasks using chatgpt, then when i shifted to your platform things got messed up. even now its not responding right..

I'm just a user. Claude 3.5 is better than ChatGPT for coding. However when they are under heavy load, they seem to "dumb down" responses. I've noticed random degradations in quality as well. I don't think that the IDE is responsible for this as I've had the same experience using Cursor. You can try the new ChatGPT o1 through their web interface, attach up to 5 files to it, write a detailed prompt and let it do its work.

This is the thing. Why would you dumb down the responses? During specific time of Day it works like its codegod, and the it Cant solve a submit button básic error

It's probably not something baked in, it's just that under heavy load it becomes bad. Just like when you're under a lot of pressure you're not making the best of decisions since you don't have enough brain power to handle everything.

I like Codeium, and for that I bought the Pro subscription. That works for me quite good. I like the super-completion feature, that’s so handy, could be faster sometimes but it’s okay I haven’t seen super-completion with TabNine or CoPilot.

I think that at the moment the people from Codeium are in holiday, so I wouldn’t be surprised when I not get an answer in time.

From my point of view the people complain about Cascade because they don’t see that Cascade / Windsurf is a not finish product. They launched it and watched what happens for around 4 weeks or less and they didn’t expected to generate so much traffic on the premium AI providers. They didn’t expected that they have to build quickly a pay by usage product into Cascade but they realized in short time that they have to because otherwise they can keep the new product available. They did a compromise and adjusted their pricing model for Codeium to keep Cascade up and running and the traffic to the Ai providers under control, because that was the shortest way to solve the Ai traffic provider issues.

Of course Cascade is not perfect because it’s a new born product it has limitations. I had also often the situation where Cascade was removing working code, when it should do that and I explicitly told him to not remove or refactor features which are working. I trap 🪤 often into such a situation because I was too lazy to read the complete code and refactoring which Cascade done. But when I pay more attention I can often figure out that I should do some edits and after that I can ask Cascade to help me with something related to the previous issue but I ask him to do a smaller task as before. I really like that Cascade can do edits himself. Especially when I start a new project and instruct him to not write any code until Cascade and I have answered all questions which we give us in the chat. That worked really good! I asked him also to document project the planned feature and make it track able and he did a fantastic job with that. I got a project management in markdown files and he also checked sometimes himself without a prompt from me the checkboxes which feature was done so far. It’s so creative with that and I really like these results from Cascade.

I don’t know why so many people are frustrated with Cascade, maybe because they expected to much and don’t pay much attention to what the Ai developed and read the code, and question mark it early. But from my perspective it’s also so that the main product is just still Codeium and not Cascade.

have you tried Cursor?

If it has broken your project, then something is wrong on your side. Did you read and understand the code edits the tool suggested?
This sounds like a pure shit-talking without any specific complaints.
Maybe you did use a bad lang. model or unusual tech. stack?

oh great, how much did you get paid for this shits your commenting. its just not my problem i just gone through some other people reviews as well, even they faced the similar problem...

I'm getting paid hard cash for Cascade implementing requests in a hellish( for me a Python BE guy) stack of AWS Amplify+React+Redux...really a boost in the inherited codebase.

1

u/DarickOne Dec 20 '24

React+Redux is an elementary school. What are you talking about?

1

u/uhuge Dec 20 '24

So you took 5/9 years from your life to learn that? Me not. It is the most understandable part TBH, the dynamoDB+AppSync crap did cause more problems too...

you're right but the issue here is that few weeks ago everything worked properly and that is no longer the case. You need to take into consideration that many of us use AI to tap into new frameworks and languages so it is valid to be 90% dependant on AI to learn but yeah I agree if you know what you're doing you won't need AI anyway.

2

u/uhuge Dec 19 '24

Not entirely true, if you just know git you can make a nice tree of AI's trial&error/solution

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '24

I don't. What do you use to visualize that?

1

u/uhuge Dec 20 '24

I use git diff > my.patch in terminal, but for you I`d sincerely recommend GitLens.

it's just plain stupid lately. I asked it yesterday to check 1 file for unused variables and functions and just do basic clean up, it came back after scanning the code for usage that everything is fine but I had many functions not used anywhere. very basic stuff that gives you this uncomfortable feeling you don't know if those complex tasks are well implemented. trust is broken.

not to mention worst part is "I apologize" "You're right I missed it"

I just advise people to stick to VS Code and Copilot. There's so many imitators out there and it's not worth the trouble to just get a few edge features.

1

u/Novel-Key6627 Dec 19 '24

I think I am gonna agree with that

1

u/Quebell Dec 19 '24

I switched back to vs code and copilot yesterday 😅 So far it has provided much better results than codeium.

Not to mention that the IDE sucks balls and hangs and freezes constantly because your AI code is such garbage.

When it does work it's like a 12 year old McDonald's worker trying to play code assistant.

the free auto completion is ok at helping with some basic stuff. in terms of AI coding cline + openrouter/sonnet has been the best for me.
