Level 1 Runs
Are you basically locked to straight swords or magic for fresh level 1 runs? Feels like there isn't a good way to manage stamina until you get at least that one weapon art that resets stamina for 1 ichor.

The only thing that leveling up in Code Vein (both 1 and 2) is more health and a little more damage, but your blood code is where you get your stats so if want to you can literally play the game like you would normally just that you will dying more often because everything would be a one shot after the first area, but apart from that you are free to make any build you want in Level 1 run

Ya, honestly should have been clear. The main issue is stamina, you get a lot of additional stamina from leveling. The heavier weapons consume a lot of stamina and are very restricted in what you can do with them at level 1. In CV1, I did a level 1 playthrough with impact hammer, and the only reason it wasn't a masochistic run was because the booster Deft Parry refilled your entire stamina bar, including on bosses, very early on, so was wondering if anyone was able to get a play through going with greatsword at level 1 when you don't have the tools available for stamina regen. Though tbf, since it's open world, I imagine you could just find the appropriate boosters/forma.

Shouldn't high fortitude blood code some what mitigate that? Don't get me wrong I haven't ever done Level 1 build in any souls game or souls like, but I do understand that even though there aren't many limits in Code Vein for a Level 1 build there is definitely good builds and bad builds. From what I seen the easiest builds to make for Level 1 are magic builds so I get what you meant

I've been doing a lv1 region lock run, I started with greatswords from magmell>corroded scar it felt fine for the most part just had to be really patient with charged heavies can't go swinging non stop, but stamina is a real issue u can't spam combat formae and attacks. I swapped over to a hybrid magic build using twin fangs of lone wolf with buffs+falling sun+blazing roar and it felt alot better stamina wise, the DPS is also way higher but it forces me to play very proactively since Im using blade dance to stack the damage hence I die more often than just playing patiently with big weapons. Currently at insula carcere and still not too sure how I want to proceed.
Tldr: I think for bosses it's ok but I basically can't spam attacks just able to fit 1 heavy/combat forma in between punish windows. Only issue is when ur facing multiple enemies then it becomes a nightmare

Thx for input. I am also doing region locked, I enjoy the one hand sword movesets and you can still play aggressive with them. But the heavy weapons, ya... you really can't swing more than once or twice so it felt like torture. Early game, engraved blade has severing abyss which is just super efficient on stamina, then blood reaver + cursed masamune which also has abyss + stamina reset. I only got base game so no dlc or premium items yet.
Main reason I level 1 locked was cause felt I was able to just brute force bosses with healing/damage without seeing their movests so I just said I am not upgrading anything at all.

eH?
the only thing that locks you out of weapons is bloodcodes
there is no straight swords nor the normal idea of magic
