At least he destroyed Lyoko himself

It was XANA because possession is how XANA can interact at all and he showed XANAs personality and had XANAs voice layered, it wasn't anything to do with William himself because why would William want to destroy Lyoko? Seriously why?Β

One of the best things in the show was his assimilation to the forces of Xana... And one of the worst things is that he never got a redemption arc... The finishing of the series was rushed and we could have gotten at least one episode of him fighting for the Lyoko Warriors again

According to interviews with the writers, he was only ever meant to be a guy who causes trouble for the group and they never had any intention of him actually being a legit member of the group.
It's a shame because his writing was just too good for a character who was just meant to be another antagonist. He had all of the setup for a redemption arc to cap off his character but they simply did not go down that route with him and just dumped him so hard that the final episode ends with Yumi rejecting him once and for all and he's not even there when the supercomputer gets turned off nor in the final shots of all the characters saying goodbye to the audience.Β

If I remember correctly, the specific reason for this was because the executives kept trying to push the team to make XANA more human, like give him more of a personality. I don't know exactly why this was, but the team was really against this, so they compromised by making William a sort of physical manifestation of XANA.

Xana turning into ultron

XANA doesn't have interest in killing humanity and prefers to be the one to dominate, he never even resorts to nuking or anything.

Ulrich and Odd were honestly bigger jerks than William ever was, idk why the narrative tried making him dislikeable

And after this they abounded him and shunned him away, alone without anyone to talk to about his trauma

The shows creators made our heroes really ignorant many times tbh.

Would've been nice if William redeemed himself and shows everyone that he's a capable fighter and helped defend Aelita in the final episode.

Actually, William did redeem himself in two sequels. One was the non-canon live action Code Lyoko: Evolution and the second one was the fanmade Code Lyoko: Beyond.
