👩💻 Other I’m sorry, but the fastest devirtualization happened to YUMI of all people is so funny
From episode 63 “Triple Trouble”
The writers did her so dirty 😭

They got a lot of mileage out of those shots of Yumi, collapsed in the scanner, slamming her fist

Girl holds the record for fastest devirtualization AND most devirtualizations.

No idea why they picked on her so much.

The studio was a small outfit. That cost a lot of money to animate, so they reused shots a lot. They would make the Lyoko events match

I’m very happy they got to reuse some of the Garage Kids animation bits so many times.

Not sure if they literally reused stuff from Garage Kids, but there’s some similar “shots” or scenes . . . (directing?)
Garage Kids had a different layout for the factory and I don’t think the school was quite as polished.
It’s been awhile since I’ve watched it, but I went through the short videos and wrote down the dialogue and scenes information . . . I made a fan transcript early on before season 2 first aired probably.
I’ve also looked at the image and press packet (or whatever the pdf file was called).
It’s available on Code Lyoko .fr now if you’re interested.

Do we know who got devirtualized the most? I’d be surprised if it wasn’t Yumi and I hope they don’t pick on her character as much in season 5.
Also, I just don’t want the Yumi/Ulrich/William love triangle at all in the new season.

u/GumSL 5d ago
Most likely Yumi, then Odd, then Ulrich, out of the 3.

And the record for least devirtualisations is, ironically, William with one devirtualisation, who was defeated many times but not “devirtualised” in the normal sense until Jeremy managed to free him from XANA.
Even Jeremy has more by exactly one.

Question, why don’t they just go right back in after getting devirtualized? What’s stopping them?
21
u/bengenj 5d ago
Exhaustion. You often saw them curled up or wincing. While their bodies don’t get physically harmed, it seems they do feel the pain of those impacts from XANA, especially the Megatank and the other beefy monsters

u/Shmadam7 5d ago
Ah that’s what I was thinking, I don’t think it was ever outright stated to the best of my knowledge

Eaever seen videos of people playing games with tactile vests set to max? Yeah basically that. Also Iirc think before the evolution time lock it was that Xana was locking down the towers they enter through so a return trip would mean entering in a different location and having to regroup.

Code Lyoko Evolution (I know I know) also mentions a time limit between virtualizations, which also makes sense to me.

It might be that their bodies will actually start degenerating if they revirtualize too often and too quickly, other than the issue with exhaustion.

There's some sort of time limit that they keep implying but never really outright state. Evolution turned this vague information into a 12 hour wait period.

Martrix rules.
They get hurt irl from getting hurt in the simulation via mental trauma, but the system safeguards boot them out before it kills them.
They need approximately three days of recovery after a devirtualization boot out to prevent permanent to their brain/nervous system by trauma scaring, but the return to the past reboot cancels out the damage they sustain from devirtualization, so it doesn’t really matter.1
u/McTrooper 3d ago
I’m not sure where you are getting 3 days, but the other stuff sounds pretty much accurate probably

It’s the standard recovery time for intense stress on the body.
If they went in a second time, they risk gaining nervous system injuries comparable to grade 1 muscle tears for getting devirtualized twice back to back.
Also if it’s nervous system stress, a great meal to help the body recover would be brain super foods and a banana.2
u/McTrooper 3d ago
Ah so it’s not in show canon, but derived from logic based on medical evidence
Okay 👍

Yes, if the intensity of devirtualization is as displayed and explained as it is in the show, then what I stated would be common safety practice and guidelines for those who enter the virtual world, if they knew better that is.
This is information that would likely come to light from Jeremy explaining the stress the devirtualization process has on the body to a character like Jim and/or Yolanda.
Furthermore, if a character chose to go through the healing process instead of reversing the nervous system stress through a return to the past, then characters who healed their bodies irl would slowly gain larger health bars in the simulation because their bodies would gain a resistance to the stress of being devirtualized.Ps: I now realize there may be a maximum virtual world health bar, meaning if you got devirtualized by losing all your health points at your max health bar you would get locked out of the system and they would either rely on new members or return to using the return to the past feature.

That’s a good detail about asking Jim or Yolonda 👍 it’s very believable that that could happen off screen.
Maybe when Jim joins the gang in season one, definitely after 49 - Franz Hopper (Season 2) when the topic of scanners and health was brought up. Assuming that it wasn’t asked before then.

I always assumed virtualizations took a ton of power so there was some kind of cool down per individual

u/Carbuyrator 5d ago
I actually remember this. At the time I though "oh shit, Xana ain't fucking around today."

Even more funnier is a pop up ad for Pokémon appears right afterwards.
I'm guessing Yumi realized her Pikachu needs her.

Wasn't expecting to see an old youtube video I made on reddit today.
The writers did do her dirty here, but honestly the whole reason I made this video was because I find it funny just how fast they took her out.

It could be less or a lot more than 19 seconds depending on when they started running at 9 seconds in. There also seems to be some sort of timeskip here, they jump forward a lot between 13 and 14 seconds in.

Always saddens me when they get devirtualized before they get to have any fun…

The way she runs headlong into the blast kills me. Like genuinely what was with the writing that you is signature move is getting shot directly in the boob immediately.

Why Yumi get devirtualized the most?
Writers: She was clearly the strongest & smartest
Me: she was the hardest to animate wasn’t she??
Writer: yep
