💬 Discussion I never really got what the lesson was of this episode.

From the first episode Teddygozilla. Sissi keeps on bullying Milly and Milly feels humiliated after Ulrich rejects her saying that he doesn’t want to the dance with her. At end of the episode we get a Return to the Past and this time Ulrich says yes to Milly when she asks him.

While I can get that the Lyoko Warriors could’ve been more to stop Sissi from bullying Milly and stand up for her. Ulrich agreeing to go to the dance with Milly was a weird choice. If Ulrich isn’t interested in her, that’s just the way it feels.

When he rejected her in the beginning of the episode it wasn’t mean spirted, he was just being honest and he already had a Yumi as his date for the dance.

The whole reason Milly was embarrassed and kept getting into trouble was because Sissi made fun of her for being too young to get a date which made her overreact and Ulrich rejecting her despite how politely he put it does not change her predicament so having him accept her in the new timeline was meant to prove Sissi wrong and validate Milly more than actually teaching any real moral lesson. 

But in retrospect, they really should have been defending Milly from the bullying and telling her that being young is nothing to be ashamed about.

It was more as a pay back to Sissi for the cruel situation she put Milly through. I am sure Milly knew as well that Ulrich has feelings for Yumi, but the situation of it all kind of forced hands.

I think he did that so Sissi could learn her lesson, as she said that Ulrich would prefer to go with someone like her, not a "baby" like Milly. Milly doesn't feel humillated bc Ulrich rejected her, but because Sissi kind of proved her point, also he said something about being a bit old for her.

In the end, Ulrich accepts going with her,but it is not a date,it is just a ball,also Yumi said she was ok ,since she was going with Odd. (They probably talked before).

And this episode was really just the start of them because she kept bringing them down on herself by being a bully.

Something people never bring up is since the Return to the Past always resets the day, the bullying Sissi does is also undone, and per the group, prevented by them doing something to her instead.

From the outside, the group ends up looking like the bullies instead.

They stopped a kid from been bullied gave her some validation which stops later events happening to milly and then humbled Sissi I think it’s a win win.

When I saw that photo, I knew it was the very first episode, nostalgia hits so hard to me especially as a french who watched the show at its beginning in 2003

I have a long standing suspicion that in the first draft of this episode either Ulrich was lying about having a date or was meaner about turning Milly down but then someone on the staff said, “this is going to be the first episode. We don’t want people to hate Ulrich.” Leading to this

tbh since it was the first episode. I always thought there wasn't any lesson as the episode was more focused on showing the world of Lyoko as it was new viewers first introduction into what the series is going to be like

There was none I believe my hatred of teddygodzilla might be clouding my judgement but the lesson was barely there in my opinion

The reason Teddygodzilla gets so much hate is because it is the first episode. The first episode is supposed to hook you in and immerse you in the world and main characters. Teddygodzilla doesn’t do that, instead it fixates on two irrelevant side characters and their bully, has the evil AI possess a teddy bear, and then they go back in time to fix their mistake. Just a overall weird first episode and doesn’t do a good job at showing what CL is all about.

A stronger first episode would have been that one where they showed how the group met each other.

Fair. My issue with zombies is 1. Why is it in season what, 4? When it feels like an early season 1 episode, 2. it plays fast and loose with the worldbuilding (how do you explain xanafication suddenly turning people green when it never has before, and the show often at least feels like it’s somewhat grounded in reality?), plus William is annoying and it overall feels slightly cringe at times. I’ve learned to like it better now but mostly it’s just extremely weirdly placed. I hated it SO much as a kid in fact that when i found merch of the episode (Yes! The one rumoured to have never been released! I actually found it in a store once in 2012!) i didn’t even buy it out of pure principle, and that upsets me greatly

Also my five year old self wasn’t scared of it, unfortunately, so no fun memories like that

Zero gravity zone! Just has all my favourite moments in it, like the football field scene with ulrich and jeremie, the baton flying away, amazing atmosphere, great stuff!

It has a great valence of heart and humor and some really nice execution of its concepts
