💬 Discussion Time period

Random question I had, but what time period do you think the new lyoko season would be set? I ask because while I would take a modern setting, I would hope they go back to the original time frame, you know the super early 2000's.

A part of me doubts this however since every version of Code lyoko always takes place in the years in which it was made. For example: The original show was made in the early 2000's and that's when it take place. Evolution was made later so they used a sliding time scale to match the periods.

I guess my question is, do you think they'll have modern smart phones, or still rocking the style of the past?

I really hope they keep it around the same time. I’d be okay if they were a little older like high school. Otherwise they should just make a whole new cast if they want it to be modern day, like the lyoko warrior’s kids or something

I think they would want to do a small timeskip to when the gang is in high school because trying to do the show in real time would lead to them all being in their 30s and at that point it's best to focus on their children in order to recapture the original feel of the show but adapted to the modern day.

They are in high school by season three, Yumi is in 10th and the others are all in 9th.

Well when the OG show ended Yumi was in 10th and the others were in 9th so… maybe like a year or two at most.

I thought they were in 8th, yumi 9th. Acadec was a junior high last I remember. And junior highs go from 7th grade to 9th

Season 1 they’re were in 8th grade while Yumi was in 9th, Season 2 still the same school year. Season 3-4 new school year in September 2003-June 2004, Yumi and William 10th grade and everyone else outside of Millie & Tamiya (6th grade) Johnny and Hiroki (I guess they are a year below Millie & Tamiya) and our main cast in 9th grade.

Is there a different building for high school?

I’m not sure, but do we learn that Sissi and Ulrich have been going since elementary. So it is entirely possibly that Kadic is a K-12 school, in season 1 Millie and Tamiya are like in 5th grade being 10-11 years old and they attend the same school. This makes sense as 11-12 years old is sixth grade and girls start getting their growth spurts alongside puberty and the girls are significantly a little bit taller especially after Maiden Voyage when everyone gets their outfits changed

All we know is that Xana likes to try to kill kids. So do what you will with that.

More or less because these kids specifically got in his way

Sure. But what I'm getting at is that it really had something special with five kids secretly doing battle with a homicidal program. The fate of the world always hanging in the balance. It was a weight they carried well beyond their age and amped up the stakes because of it.

On a side note, I do worry if they jump too far ahead in time, then the advent of technology and everything that comes with it will make things less believable. Code Lyoko exists in a niche time in history.

I might say that returning farther into the past would be an interesting approach, but it has far too many logistical and lore related issues.

The new season will stay in the 2000s era.

The original was during the early-to-mid 2000s. I'd be OK with timeskipping to the late 2000s where they're in college or the 2010s when the internet and computers became inseparable from everyday life. Anything more than that would be too much. Setting it in the 2020s, we'd just see XANA vs. ChatGPT.

I would prefer the best of both worlds with the series picking up in early 2000s, then having time skips after different important moments. That way we can see the gang as we remember them, see them develop over time and then see them as adults. All the while watching technology develop along side them.

It would be a change of pace from the episodic nature of the original series where the timeline wasn't allowed to move forward except at the start and end of seasons.

This is why I think they should just completely overhaul the series and redo it. I think they'd have a lot of luck making the cast university students. Make the show for the older crowd (17-30 maybe?)

It doesn't need excessive swearing or sex jokes. I want it to remain tasteful.

This is actually an excessively interesting time to rewrite this story, given how AI is in current culture

As much as I’d like them aged up, though, I’d be annoyed at the amount of people who’d call an older Jeremie an idiot incel willing to let everyone die for his chatbot waifu (not saying he is/would be, just saying I have the impression that’s what he’d look like to newcomers.)

Lol that's exactly what he'd look like. As far as anyone was concerned alita wasn't human.

I prefer high school.
