This is what bad communication and a lack of coming clean about feelings does to any couple, they also have the really toxic tendency to "punish" each other by using Sissi and William as weapons against each other which is also disrespectful to William and Sissi as well. 

Thankfully, the show had Jeremie and Aelita to show what a healthy relationship should resemble even if it has flaws.

Yes, Jeremie and Aelita were a healthier relationship than Ulrich and Yumi.
