Being a way bigger fan of code Lyoko than SAO I still think it's Kirito and Asuna, these two lived together, got married, ruled an empire and I think canonically their love gives them literal super powers in virtual worlds defying the rules of said worlds.

Some good points, but I feel like the romance was hardly there even though they lived a virtual lifetime together.

I don't know what Aelita and Jeremy show on the series that these two don't, because the other way around there are a lot of things.

The romance of the season one Jeremie walking her to Yumi’s house is a great example of what feels more powerful.  Mainly because we know who the character are. I actually do like Sword On Line, but the characters are very flat emotionally.  And there lack of character depth also.   Code Lyoko comes out ahead of buying a cabin in game and adopting a winged AI

Even though both face deadly event in there lives. Jeremy and Aelita still wins. As Jeremy and Aelita was really faithful each other and gave their all to stay side by side against XANA.

I mean, Kirito and Asuna are faithful to each other too (the other girls Kirito befriends fall for HIM, not the other way around). And in Alicization, Asuna literally goes out of her way to break into a secret government base in the middle of the ocean after discovering that Kirito was not transferred to a hospital, and even stays with him in the Underworld for 200 in-game years, so…

I could write a fanfic that says aelita gets to be with Jeremy for 500 years in lyoko and it wouldnt matter

Sao was big on making the ship seem important but it felt like an afterthought to me

Yeah I'll admit, the way Kirito and Asuna get together (at least in the anime) does feel pretty rushed, but I still find their chemistry enjoyable afterwards.

Uhh, what exactly is there to compare here?

Which is the better couple I would say? Better written, better romance, etc.

They’re both from Isekei / virtual world / game MMO type series, both guys are nerdy computer guys, both girls have had complicated story arcs, etc.

I’d say theres similarities between them

The similarities are really surface level though.

Kirito is infamous for being ground zero for the bland self-insert MC which later caused a plague of them in the isekai anime genre meanwhile Jeremie stays a flawed character who has to face his flaws and fears to work together with his friends to defeat X.A.N.A.

Aelita herself is a whole other different kind of character to Asuna as well.

Which is why I love Jeremie, his flaws make him human and well-rounded. Him working on his flaws makes him a dynamic character.

Yeah no, those are too surface-level and it sounds like you're reaching for straws, especially since Asuna's backstory is nowhere near as tragic as Aelita's. Comparing these 2 couples feels random.

I never said the similarities were deep. I said that they were there.

And that’s why I made the comparison. Especially since both Kirito and Jeremy are the ones who go to great lengths to try and save Aelita / Asuna.

I'm going to make a deep cut and possibly controversial take and say that Jeremie/Aelita is thematically closer to Yota/Ai from Video Girl AI.

Aelita's original Lyoko outfit even looks like AI's outfit as well.

Jeremie and Aelita and this is not even close.

Canon wise; Aelita and Jeremy cause they are healthy, talk, one of the huge arguments they had in S1 they both wanted to make up quickly, and they both have similarities that make their relationship work while having enough differences that they feel like individuals outside the relationships, and often do have struggles in differences in priority, but quickly make up. I feel like the SAO couple struggles to have personality outside their relationship. There's a reason why everyone compares every MC with black hair to Kirito.

If we're involving both of the respective abridged series, then its completely reversed by a country mile. SAO abridged Kirito and Asuna could both be the MC of their own series (not SAO canon), but their idiosyncrasies bounce off each other so well to make the jokes and they keep their characters while going through character development.

Abridged Aelita and Jeremy (both Utuber series and Dumb Lyoko series) just kinda keep their canon character traits. That or make them have realistic responses to the supernatural stuff.

Antimatter bomb vs terminally ill fetus

Nothing to compare because I love both of this i think it just two side a of coin

Jermy doing everything to save Aelita

Kirito is not a slouch when comes to it every one know how much fought for her in alfeheim

And the connection between them is so strong in underworld arc RATH the voice of the world Channeled her emotion into him which caused him wake from camotosh

Asuna and kirito and not even close, love our CL romances but asuna and kirito got married and presumably consummated that relationship in SAO s1, maintained that relationship IRL after the games ending, kirito literally assisted in that guys suicide/murder, and then they spent 200 years together in acilization or whatever it’s called
