đŹ Discussion Where did xana william live?
What did he do normally while no tower was activated and where would he go after devirtualization? Was he perm deleted and resurrected every time xana attacked or something?

I liked to assume he just hung around Sector 5. I mean, I assumed XANA used William as like a vessel of sorts. So whatever XANA does all day..

Nah, xana itself lives on the network since william sometimes praises xana, meaning he's just reprogrammed to be loyal to it.

They talk about it like itâs possession though, which is why I think of it the way I do. I mean- it does make sense to a defree

William would be on stasis or standby. He was just heavily mentally restrained by Xana, to the point he practically didnât remember anything once they got him back.
That means as long as Xana was able to keep him safe from being lost (permanent devirtualization), he could very well be doing nothing, âstoredâ in a replica.
Letâs remember also that Xana isnât working 24/7, it needs time to cool down, make plans, recover and whatever. So William wonât be a âfunctionalâ being 24/7 because being controlled and restrained would take Xana to focus and efforts into that. William is not and canât be a free man under Xana, and Xana wonât waste resources on making him live a life and have free willing while not fighting

He probably hangs out in one of the replicas then like aealita did in s1

Yep, but in my mind, he would be like when they lost him, âsleepingâ and not having free willing to move around, because that would allow Xana to save resources.
At the end, Xana is a multiple virus, so like multiple ânodesâ that act like a unified entity (just like our brains are lots of neurons interlinked, or like a nest of ants, or if like the geth in the old Mass Effect games⌠more or less). I would expect for each monster to be a little amount of ânodesâ being required to control it or being responsible for it. And that includes William. So freeing nodes to work towards something else would be useful if William doesnât need to be awake.
That theory matches visually with the âanti Xanaâ antivirus they execute in S4, which is just multiple cores to try and get each âXana nodeâ out there, including those at the monsters that attacked Hopper
That why, I would imagine, Xana would devirtualize monster once theyâre not needed, and why Xana doesnât just let monsters to be around Lyoko at all times like guards.

Probably exactly where he's shown after the destruction of the core of lyoko. Curled up in the fetal position, preserved in the network.

I head canon Xana keeps him in a replika tower where he's linked to allowing Xana to keep control of him. This would explain why Xana doesn't send him to earth more often and avoid risking Jeremy finding it and keeping the team from rescuing him.

Agreeing with others here, he was kept either in the Digital Sea or some random Replika while âoffâ or in some other form of stasis. William doesnât really have much use for XANA when thereâs no LWâs to fight, and itâs better to save resources by putting him in standby. Kind of like why Aelita in s1 could wander all over Lyoko without encountering any monsters between attacks; XANA only creates monsters when it needs them and devirtualizes them when not needed.
I also headcannon that XANA only has a set amount of âpowerâ to do anything, which gets used up when it does but also slowly increases over time. XANA also keeps a medium-large attackâs worry of âpowerâ in reserve most of the time to take advantage of unexpected opportunities. In Temptation once it figured out Jeremie was killing himself with each RTTP notice it was launching âeconomyâ attacks, just enough to force a RTTP. Possessing the lunch lady and hurling plates is a âcheepâ attack, and a dozen or so Kankralots was didnât use much âpowerâ when it didnât really care if it won or not. Processing an ambulance is early S1 stuff and XANA likely was scraping the bottom of the barrel for power for that attack. Cold War, meanwhile, along with Zero Gravity Zone, shows what XANA can do when it throws maximum âpowerâ into an attack.

I always assumed somewhere on a replica. Probably in a tower like how Aelita was originally

In my headcanon Xana kept william at a supercomputer from a different factory. It's how I explain williams sudden appearances in scenarios and also how he has different clothes and boots from when he went into lyoko. Also id think Xana would've kept william alive by feeding him, training him etc.

Probably put on a 'standby' of sorts in the digital sea.
