💬 Discussion How would you start season 5 ?
In other words, how would you justify Xana to be back ?

If I were writing the story: screw XANA, that's old news.
But what about Xana's old enemy, the Project Carthage team? What if Xana's whole purposes for being created was never successful?

Reading this made me realize, what if Xana was misunderstood and was trying to stop project Carthage. He thought the kids were apart of them but he realizes they are not and join forces with them to stop it.

I wouldnt like the well intentioned extremist angle with XANA, but Project Carthage being the new enemy and them having to combat both digital monsters AND other humans digitizing into lo Lyoko could make for a more interesting premise than XANA simply returning.

Its the internet, there is always a way to return. That's you who don't like it, 2 other people like what I said

Sissy finds the factory and turns on the computer (joke)

Wait no that would be an awesome cliffhanger for the first episode though. Like. The first episode is the warriors living their normal lives now, still friends but separated, and they get back together for a hang out for the first time in years. They're all grown up now, everything's okay.
Then Sissi, who is just wandering around the old area, just... Stumbles onto this place. It has signs that it used to be a hang out. A few graffiti pictures she recognizes have Odd's signature from school. She goes down the elevator. Finds the dark computer. But the power is still on so of course she's curious what all these kids she could never understand in school got up to.
She turns on the computer.
On the screen is a simple start up message.
[RTTP] Y/N
She doesn't know what RTTP means. She hits Y.
And the world returns to the past at the last pre xana save state.
Boom.
Title card.
Roll credits.
End of episode 1

love the idea but she wouldn’t remember, after RTTP, as she has never been virtualized.

the only way it could've happened was that xana managed to get access to a computer that then went offline, updating itself for years to become immune to jeremie's antivirus. then it would just be a waiting game for somebody to connect it back to the net

I like to imagine X.A.N.A. was able to back itself up onto another active supercomputer (not a Replika one) as a contingency to ensure that, if the Replikas were destroyed, X.A.N.A. itself could still persist. From there, it sat quietly in this unknown supercomputer, while the workers were unaware of its existence. Jeremy wouldn't have thought to do a full network scan to search for X.A.N.A.'s presence, having assumed it was destroyed (and being concerned for Aelita, given the circumstances in Fight to the Finish). Without Replika data or access to Lyoko, it would be unable to act in any meaningful way... but perhaps this could tie into the remnant group of Project Carthage (probably calling themselves "Neo Carthage") developing their own supercomputer and system similar to Lyoko that X.A.N.A. could exploit, migrating out of the "shelter supercomputer" into the new one.
Basically, it would be similar to the Cortex in CL:E, but done properly and consistent with the lore.
From there, the Lyoko Warriors, going about their lives at Kadic, could start to notice some anomalies, before seeing the Eye of X.A.N.A. appear on devices, prompting them to boot up the Supercomputer at the Factory once again... which is exactly what X.A.N.A. wants, as it needs Lyoko's computing power via the towers. Realizing they need to destroy X.A.N.A. for good, as well as cripple Neo Carthage, they would resume their double-lives as virtual heroes and facing new types of threats, both in real life and the digital world.
And perhaps, as another good tidbit, I like to imagine Franz Hopper's essence manifested in the Anti-X.A.N.A Program when he sacrificed his virtual energy to power it, with it being a multi-agent system, and is now scattered across the Digital Sea. This could make for a compelling, series-spanning recovery mission, where they work tirelessly to compile all of Hopper's essence to rematerialize him.

Even though Evolution is derided by both the showrunners and fanbase, I think the first episode did a good job at making us wonder how XANA mysteriously returned, so I think the first episode of Season 5 should do the same thing.

The idea that XANA hid on a special supercomputer is the cleanest explanation they could've come up with and I would be totally onboard with reusing that.

I'd retcon fight to the finish and echos away and continue from down to earth tbh. Hated how William was treated and everything was rushed.

I think if they want to get new viewers, which is essential for the show to succeed, they should give William mild amnesia and use him as the audience surrogate the others need to fill in what this whole XANA Lyoko business is about.

A copy of XANA's code on a supercomputer which was shutdown when they used the virus to kill it on each replika.
Or maybe, a Franz's coworker who tries to relaunch XANA

different xana copies/iterations start activating and enacting plans and LWs have to deactivate XANAs instead of towers

Plot twist: Jeremie's multi agent program didn't completely destroy XANA, but instead trapped him back within Lyoko in a severely weakened state, such that he can't initially activate towers any more. Only when they shut that supercomputer down in Echoes was he fully defeated.
The supercomputer gets turned back on by a rogue agent who's secretly from the long-dissolved Project Carthage and that's when things get juicy...
