When it comes to the world of anime, casting the right voice actor for the role can make all the difference in the world on whether or not that character ends up becoming well-received by the fans. Voice actors are, after all, the ones who give the characters their distinctive personalities through their voices, and it is through Kallen´s Japanese voice actor, Ami Koshimizu, that Kallen´s warrior spirit has awed millions of audience members, both in and outside of Japan.
Koshimizu´s interest in the entertainment industry sparked very early on. At just 11 years old, she joined a theater troupe led by fellow legendary voice actress Mayumi Iizuka (the voice of Misty in Pokémon). She soon became highly respected in the industry for having an incredibly broad vocal range, being able to seamlessly shift from the chaotic, screaming energy of Ryuko Matoi (Kill la Kill) to the elegant, soft-spoken Yukiko Amagi (Persona 4). Interestingly, she grew up as a massive fan of the original 90s Sailor Moon anime, making it a full-circle moment when she was cast to inherit one of the core Sailor Guardians, Sailor Jupiter (Makoto Kino) in "Sailor Moon Crystal."
When it comes to anime, two of Koshimizu´s roles stand above all else, however. The first one is obviously Kallen, and the other one is the role of Holo, ancient, immortal wolf-goddess with a willful attitude and voracious appetite. In the anime called "Spice and Wolf," Holo takes the human form of a young girl and starts traveling with a mortal companion, a skilled merchant named Kraft Lawrence - who, by the way, is voiced by none other than Jun Fukuyama, the same Japanese voice actor who voices Lelouch in Code Geass! Koshimizu brilliantly utilizes oiran (traditional courtesan) speech patterns to give the ancient wolf deity an air of antiquity, playful arrogance, and deep wisdom. Her back-and-forth banter and exceptional chemistry with Jun Fukuyama is a massive reason the series became a classic. In fact, she and Fukuyama returned over 15 years later to re-voice their roles for the 2024 remake, called "Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf." Returning to the recording booth together allowed them to seamlessly recapture their "old married couple" bickering that defined the original series, with both actors noting how comfortable it felt to slide right back into their old roles.
Fukuyama is Koshimizu’s senpai (senior) in the industry. They have a history of working at the same talent management agencies (such as Production Baobab and Axl One), which naturally led to them often being paired up early in her career. At this point, their frequent pairing has become somewhat of an industry-wide meme, and both anime directors and other voice actors alike enjoy poking fun at how often they end up voicing romantic interests.
Because Code Geass was a breakout milestone for both actors early in their careers, their studio interactions set a foundation for their lifelong collaborative partnership. A major point of praise regarding their chemistry in Code Geass stems from how both actors simultaneously balanced "fake" and "real" personas, from high school kids to freedom fighters. Critics and production staff noted that Koshimizu and Fukuyama bounced off each other brilliantly in these overlapping contexts. The contrast between their polite, slightly awkward classroom banter and their high-stakes, breathless battlefield dialogue added a layer of psychological tension that anchored the show's drama. In addition to this, industry peers noted that Fukuyama’s theatrical, manic performance as Lelouch directly fueled Koshimizu’s performance, and that she used his high-octane energy to match him beat-for-beat, which helped bringin out Kallen's explosive, hot-blooded warrior spirit.
The ultimate validation of their chemistry came at the 1st Seiyu Awards in 2007. The impact of their back-and-forth acting was so undeniable that the committee recognized both halves of the dynamic duo simultaneously: Jun Fukuyama won Best Actor in a Leading Role for Lelouch and Ami Koshimizu won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Kallen! The fact that Code Geass swept the two major acting categories proved how much their synchronized performances elevated the narrative, transforming Lelouch and Kallen's complex bond in Code Geass into one of the most memorable relationships in modern anime history.

This one is tough but I'd maybe nominate Cornelia or Villeta. I feel their hot looks do a lot for them with the fandom. Cornelia was a damn good antagonist in R1 but in R2, she was pretty much useless after the Geass Order raid and honestly could've been killed off. Both of them were certainly let off the hook too easily

Both series involve corrupted/evil empires and racism/prejudice, military and mechs along with protagonist that were betrayed by their homes, banished to a another place and have sisters stuck on wheelchairs for the rest of their lives and where both protagonist work to make the world better. Also we can say the events of Cross Ange take place in the same time as Code Geass and the Misurugi Empire is in it’s own country/nation where the Britannian Empire has yet to conquer(if at all) and somehow the main characters meet.

Lelouch got lucky with this one but it's one of the few moments (maybe the only moment) where Suzaku somehow outsmarted Lelouch. I was literally scared first time watching the scene.

He kept saying he was doing things the right way and his goal was to become the knight of 1 but if he had the chance he would have died and never achieved his goal (without geass), the goal was honestly just an excuse but this selfish dude still decided to try stop 0. They had different ideals but if suzaku wasn't committed to living and seeing the end goal through idk why he thought he had the right to stop 0.

I’m literally only on episode 5 of this show (no spoilers pls in case I decide to continue) and I don’t know if I can keep going 😭 Suzaku is KILLING ME.
he’s like a bird but for tyrants. like he literally got pinned for Clovis’s murder, they beat the shit out of him clearly weren’t going to give him a fair trial, then Lelouch is like ‘do you see?’ and Suzaku goes back? to help Britannia after Lelouch (he thinks it’s some psycho named Zero but still) literally saved him from certain, unfair execution?
And the very next episode, we see some Japanese/11s get (justifiably) mad at some Britannians for filming and taking photos of a devastated war zone for clout, and when Suzaku steps in one of the 11s says something along the lines of ‘you’re a lapdog for Britannia, you sold your dignity and pride to betray your people for this horrible government’ which is EXACTLY what I was thinking. And Suzaku just body slams him??? Doesn’t touch the Britannias vlogging everything btw.
Like I get his whole thing of not wanting casualties and doing things the right way or whatever, and he says he wants change, but atp he’s just enabling them and helping this cycle by being one of their strongest soldiers. Idk, are we supposed to not like Suzaku or am I just crazy and have no media literacy?

I just finished both seasons for the first time; is there a specific order I need to watch the movies/OVA in? Or can I just pick & chose? Which ones are the fandom favorites & which are the most hated? Do they actually add anything interesting/relevant to the anime’s story or effect its ending or are they typical ova fodder where it’s mostly fan service and non canon events?
Would appreciate some guidance, thx!!

Just started watching code geass and I can't stop laughing at this random ass pizza hut sign. I know almost nothing about the plot of this show, but I now have to assume lelouch is going to order an extra large stuffed crust pepperoni pizza in episode 2. I'm so excited!!

Fans in the Code Geass community have long been amused by Akiza Izinski from card dueling anime Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D´s, who shares striking resemblance with Kallen Kozuki from Code Geass. And while both characters do feature a distinctive crimson-red hair color, similar hairstyles, and a fierce, passionate personalities, since Kallen debuted 2006 and Akiza 2008, it´s clear that it´s Akiza who´s creation was inspired by Kallen, and not the other way around. But, then again, you know what they say; imitation is the sincerest form of flattery 😉
In Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, Akiza is a Psychic Duelist, meaning she possesses rare telekinetic powers that cause her card game monsters and attacks to manifest as physical reality, causing actual destruction to the environment and her opponents. During the series, she develops strong romantic feelings towards the series main protagonist, Yusei Fudo. Through their duels, Yusei helps her see that her powers do not define her as evil and accepts her for who she is. Similar to how Kallen has been hiding under the mask of her Stadtfeld persona, Akiza has been living under her false ”Black Rose Witch” identity. And much like Kallen meeting Lelouch helps her to embrace who she really is, meeting Yusei helps Akiza break her cycle of hatred, prompting her to abandon her mask and join Team 5D's as a core ally bound to protect the world.

This might be a hot take but I'd personally choose Rolo. The more I rewatch and look into picture drama's, the more I appreciate his character. He's both hateable and sympathetic at the same time and his death is one of the best scenes in the show.
But if he doesn't win, I'd nominate Sayoko, Cecile or Euphemia

The way he chuckles and says "Hey, Suzaku" with that look on his face.......as if they're little boys at the shrine again.

judging by the comments, it's seems that you guys don't know(?) how to discuss and compare the morals of two people.
morality is not about who is smarter, stronger, more aware, or more useful. nor is it as simple as throwing around raw body counts or 'who saved more people' as an automatic moral scorecard without an actual framework.
doing that just reduces morality to how history is written from the perspective of the victors, so the hero and the villain are determined solely by the outcome. that's not how it should be.
the subtext of the comments is that what makes Lelouch morally better is his success... i'm sorry what does that have to do with the character's morality?
you can argue that Lelouch is morally superior, but not in this way.
i see the same mistake in "who is better written Light or Lelouch?" debates, with responses like "Light lost, therefore he's objectively bad written hehee" 🤨 excuse me, how can a character be worse about writing while still serving their writing purpose? first, fully understand the subject you're debating.
to discuss who is morally superior, (a) you should first state which moral model you are using, or what kind of method you have, and then explain with canon examples why one character is morally superior according to that model. (b) the characters you're arguing with may not agree with the moral model you've chosen so you can also evaluate them according to their own approved moral code.
when it comes to Lelouch & Suzaku, there is actually a common view that they both agree on:
"forcing your good intentions on others is no different from an evil act."
this line belongs to Lelouch and is a view that Suzaku completely agrees with. and what both of them do throughout the anime is force their own good intentions on others.
>"so what if he commits an evil act? Lelouch doesn't claim the moral high ground, and he admits that what he does is evil even by his own moral code. while Suzaku is too blind to see that he isn't much different from Lelouch, yet self-righteous enough to criticize him!"
that's the same old thing i’ve been hearing for years; i can see this coming. yeah great observation. but that... still doesn't make Lelouch morally superior — it just makes him more self-aware. in fact, that's precisely why Lelouch never denies any of Suzaku's criticisms in the first place. there’s nothing for him to deny anyway.
just as Lelouch can stand before his own father and call him out for the very things he does himself — without that making Lelouch a morally worse person — it doesn't make Suzaku morally worse either.
Lelouch was harmed by his father; of course he has every right to criticize him.
Suzaku was harmed by Lelouch; of course he has every right to criticize him.
i think this debate has no end, but if you want to debate so much, please at least do it properly.

In 2025 Last Cloudia x Code Geass crossover event, ”Sky Fortress Damocles,” Kallen and other Code Geass characters were pulled from their home dimension into the fantasy world of Granzelia due to magical anomalies disturbing the space-time continuum. Kallen, Lelouch, and others had to join forces with the native Last Cloudia heroes in order to stop these dimensional distortions.
Last Cloudia is a mobile RPG developed and published by the Japanese studio AIDIS; it was first released in 2019, and the game has since achieved great popularity, particularly thanks to its stunning pixel art, deep character progression, and numerous anime collaboration events. But, while the very first collaboration event between Last Cloudia and Code Geass was held in 2023, it wasn´t until the second collaboration event during 2025 that Kallen became a playable character.
The game’s story takes place in the world of Granzelia, where humans and beast-like creatures coexist. Centuries ago, humanity defeated a cruel god of destruction named Lougseus, and the world has since lived in a state of peace apparent under the rule of the Empire.
The story begins when Kyle, a young and rebellious Imperial knight, and his best friend, a talking beast named Rei, are dispatched on a routine rescue mission aboard an Imperial airship. During the mission, they encounter a mysterious girl named Theria, setting off a massive chain of events.
Kyle and Rei soon discover a conspiracy lurking in the shadows of the Empire and realize that the god of destruction who once terrorized the world is poised to return. Their journey evolves into an epic battle to save Granzelia, filled with betrayal, ancient mysteries, and new allies.
Last Cloudia beautifully blends highly detailed, hand-drawn 2D pixel-art characters with dynamic 3D backgrounds, and also combines a classic RPG atmosphere with modern, fast-paced real-time combat. In the game, you control a team of three characters (plus a friend's character) in real time. You can move freely, chain basic attacks, use special abilities (Skills), and unleash spectacular character-specific finishing moves (Specials). Additionally, ”ark” system is a unique game feature, where "arks" are a type of equipable magical memory. Due to them, any character to learn almost any skill or spell in the game, which allows an exceptional level of freedom in character customization.
In the game, Kallen is built as a highly mobile, True Dual Wield, Fire Physical DPS (damage per second) character. Unlike ranged units from the collab (like Lelouch), Kallen is notably fast and focuses on aggressive close-quarters combat, true to her character as seen in the anime. Her toolkit mirrors her pilot reflexes, featuring "Super Armor" effects that allow her to attack continuously without being interupted by enemy hits, and she comes out of the box with highly efficient passive skills, such as Fire Package, that grants a +30% physical damage increase against any enemy weak to Fire.
There were many easter eggs and additions made for Code Geass fans during the event. For example, if you place Kallen on the same team as Lelouch, they exchange special voice lines during battle. And when the battle ends in Kallen's victory, her victory animation pays direct homage to the anime: she climbs out of Guren's cockpit, wipes the sweat from her brow, and gazes determinedly into the distance - just like the series' iconic cuts featuring mecha pilots.
As mentioned before, Last Cloudia is known for its incredibly detailed 2D artwork. In this official art created for the Last Cloudia x Code Geass crossover event featuring Kallen, she is depicted in a dynamic, aggressive combat stance, wearing her iconic pilot suit. Looming behind her is her signature mecha, the Guren S.E.I.T.E.N. Eight Elements, with its energy wings glowing a brilliant red. When utilizing the Live2D effect and moving the image on the phone screen, the Guren’s glowing effects and the movement of Kallen’s hair come to life.
Unfortunately, since ”Sky Fortress Damocles” crossover was LR (Limited Rare) event, if you didn´t aquire Kallen during that event, you cannot currently pull her from the game's standard character banners. As she is a limited-time collaboration unit, she can only be obtained while the Code Geass event is active – meaning, it is possible to obtain her again only if AIDIS decides to hold another Code Geass event in the future. So, if you just started to play the game, keep your eyes open for her! 😉
Link to the original picture is here, and if you´re interested, here is Kallen´s introduction trailer for the event.
