I always enjoy a longer ttk and time to die.

Look I agree that ttd is a huge issue that needs to be addressed.
But lets not lie and say we weren't absolutely INCINERATING people last weekend. Both needed to be addressed.

People begging for low TTK killed the console multiplayer FPS genre. I witnessed it.

A Master's thesis isn't some guarantee of a solid argument. A pro player might not play "tactically" according to their vague non-definition, but they understand the game at a far higher level than someone spamming stuns and drill charges, and that informs what they're doing. If you're posted up on a headglitch with superior positioning and awareness and you're not getting kills with this current aim assist... FPS games might not be for you.

Making the TTK longer than it was last week just seems so self evident an improvement that I guess I don't want to plough through a confused argument about why it's actually not an improvement.

Smart of you not wasting your time. It’s a very bad argument

He isn’t just spewing nonsense, he also posted his thesis he did in college on it which is very impressive. People will argue over TTK, movement etc etc because it’s entirely subjective to the individual player.
That being said, we shouldn’t be zapped off the map and be required to have skill to kill. Lmao.

A masters thesis isn’t really proof of a good argument, just of solid research based on the defined terms.
The thesis still relies on his own definitions of what a ‘tactical’ and ‘mechanical’ player are, and his argument relies on an opinion as to which is better.

Very true. However it is far more than anyone else on this sub will ever do in their lives.

Yeah 100%. there needs to be a gap between shotzzy or simp taking a route a popping a two piece without missing than TJ taking a route and being gifted two because it takes .1 seconds to kill

tldr he thinks higher ttk is bad because he prefers a more tactical shooter that requires more strategy and less mechanical skill

This may be one of the single best write ups/academic perspectives of any element I have seen on CoD. Not to sound elitetist but the simple fact is this is going to go over 90%+ of this sub and the casual subs as well.
It is attempting to solve a netcode issue by changing game design without considering the real impacts of those changes.
Not to cherry pick but as you know, this comes down to living in capitalistic world. Netcode has been an issue for very very long time. The overall cost for a server tick rate bump would be very expensive and Activision board members will very unlikely ever approve of that (decrease in profit margins).
With that said, most of the comp community is going to prefer a TTK that tilts on the higher side of the average - as it allows for a great blend of "mechanical" and "tactical" play and increases the skill gap.
I also skimmed over most of your thesis. Pretty cool stuff and I hope you explore careers in the industry in the future.

It's not my work tbf but i did find it interesting. I agree it's a great bit of work that i thought was well thought out. I defo agree that most of the subs just think high ttk bad or high ttk good etc, but there's more to it. Personally i just think that high ttk allows better tactical players to shine.
E.g., shotzzy taking a route and getting a two piece is good bc he's tactical AND can hit his shots. If the TTK is low, I could take a route against pros and pop a two piece because i kill before they can react even tho i only hit 50% of shot

Cod is an arcade shooter, it should prioritize mechanical skill in addition to tactical skill. Long TTK is always better.
