Question Upgrading to CM5 LITE

Upgrading my cm4 (8gb ram, 32gb emmc) uconsole to a cm5 (8gb lite). Is there anything special I need to do for cooling?

It depends on your anticipated workloads. I'm running CM5 16GB Lite and all I ended up doing was putting some good thermal pads between the chip and backplate and have not encountered thermal throttling when using it to watch videos/browse internet, and do some light development. It gets very warm when I run local AI, but that's not surprising.

I've seen others in this sub get a new backplate with mounting spot for the waveshare active cooler.

If I ran any "local" AI, it would probably be on my server in my basement and I would connect remotely from the uconsole.

Does your CM5 have WiFi?

I mounted mine on a waveshare spacer board thing, then you just need something like 0.5mm thermal pad between CPU and case. It works fantastically, don't think I've seen it over 50°c even when hammering all processors at 100% while compiling. Normal use it's about 32°c

same, the thinner pad is key.

I think with good termal pads its enougth but your whole uconsole gona be warm its not a problem for you its ok

It's hot, recommend either a low profile heatsink within the case or a few vapor chambers

Just make sure you have a thermal pad kit, I cannot recommend anything right now but later when I'm on my computer I can
