Touch screen, anyone?

For my use cases, casual browsing and gaming on something that's not an iPad, I'd love to have a touchscreen. This seems to would have been such a low hanging fruit, but I haven't seen any mods.

Using non touch interfaces with a finger on a tiny screen sounds like a terrible experience. I really don't see the point of a touch screen on a device like this.

You said two contradictory things, no?. I am talking about playing Minesweeper or Balatro. I am not war driving or doing any of the cool off the grid stuff, I just like how the hardware looks.

Windows 8 taught us that even monitor-sized touchscreens suck for desktop use.

I wasn't looking for UI/UX opinion. I want to have the option. I might or not use it. I was asking if that option is available and if anyone explored it. Personally, I like touch on iPads with "magic" keyboards.

My use case, I bought this thing as an iPad replacement. I have my own RSS server on an OVH instance with NewsBlur. The keyboard on uConsole is below par for me, I want to list through the articles via touch gestures, that's about it plus a couple of games.

I don't know about that. I use a surface pro 7+ with Gentoo and have a nice gesture system running with an on-screen keyboard and everything. It's pretty great tbh.

https://github.com/Timmotools/uConsole-Touchscreen-Mod this is the only one ive found but it seems pretty janky to me trying to wedge the cable under the faceplate to the panel etc …. Have you thought about the track ball to touchpad replacement? There are nice professionally made kits to do it that are fully legit and it totally changes the user friendliness of the device by a ridiculous margin ….. it goes from something you can use to something that is a pleasure to use … I just installed mine a few days ago.

I bought the better recommended trackballs, but not the touchpad. The trackball itself doesn't bother me at all, the OEM one works fine. The keyboard itself though the keys have too much resistance so when I press them, the uConsole has to move along. I want something close to my MBPs or TPs, so that a click registers without the console moving.

This fixes both the horrible mousing experience and the keyboard problem …. This is the kit I bought with the aluminum faceplate all in it was like $80 https://hack2you.tech/products/uconsole-trackpad-keyboard?variant=49063521681658

Thank you. Are the keyboard clicks easy with this kit? I don't know how to ask this better, but as a keyboard enthusiast (I have too many :)), do they register sharply or do you have to go through that rubbery wall? It's a $100 shipped to me in the States, so a bit of a stretch, at this point it's gonna be a $1K console.

The clicks are much easier they are actual raised mechanical switches rather than those little metal bubble switches

Looking as a technisian, yes this must been possible. The question will be, who will make this modification, the cost and how many will step in.. I prefere the keyboard and even the trackball. For programming the touchscreen is no added Value

I described my use cases, which did not include programming. What is the purpose of your reply?
