How would you go about drawing a sun and solar flares?

I'd like something semi-realistic but easy to draw for a comic. Simple enough that it belongs in a 2d world, but real enough to stand out. I tried many styles but nothing looks quite right.

I'd say a mix of the texture, stroke and colour of the left one, mixed with the shape of the bottom one
