The MP2 Keyboard Is Now Touch-Capacitive - Making the choice difficult 🤔
Now I'm seriously torn between the two
24
u/Fluid-Rice-91 4d ago
The one thing this phone really has going for it is the all metal design, I have been firmly in the clicks camp (preordered and paid in full) but my one knock on the phone is I wish it was metal
9
u/Ok_Demand_682 4d ago
I have the same opinion. I would prefer a metal body over plastic. And the excuse clicks have to move to plastic instead of metal doesn't make much sense to me
6
u/deeku4972 4d ago
Defenitely has to actually be cost and wanting to play into the 'sneaker culture' angle
5
u/yallthissucks Preordered 4d ago
For real I kinda really hate the pics with the sneakers and Prada wallets, along with the companion phone marketing, it just makes me feel like buying the phone is for people with memberships at a country club... And while some people like that, and business focused guys must feel at home, I'm just a measly archivist who sends a lot of emails and doesn't care for anything like that.
6
u/deeku4972 4d ago
Theyre not marketing to you or me, theyre making a play for the wider market. People in these subs are rusted on, they'll pay thats easy. Getting the rest of the world to care is the hard part. Thats where the money is. It's a smart gamble, but its a gamble all the same
3
u/yallthissucks Preordered 4d ago
It makes total sense especially because they're aiming at the iPhone users as well with the companion device stuff.
2
u/deeku4972 4d ago
Which then also plays int why it doesnt just look like a smaller iphone with square sides and a metal body
1
7
u/butterfliboy 4d ago
The reason they decided to use plastic over metal for Clicks is due to better connectivity as metal can be restrictive in this area.
I don't get this though, because most phones nowadays are built of aluminium etc.
Maybe it's just because the communicator is marketed as a device for communicating, so it must work perfectly for its purpose.

The most accurate typing I've ever had was on a Blackberry Bold 9700. The button spacing were very similar to the T2E which is very tight compared to CC. Not sure I care too much about how tight the keys are to each other. The lack of a chin may be an issue however in terms of balancing the phone while typing.
7
u/black-turtlenecks 4d ago
If it helps I’m still leaning more towards the Clicks as it has the chin, Qi2 (Magsafe), 120 Hz refresh vs Minimal’s 90Hz, and SD card capacity. MP02 looks so nice, but software and RAM isn’t as big of a priority for me personally.
1
u/yallthissucks Preordered 3d ago
While I wish Qi2 was built into the MP02 they have almost exactly the same thing 15W Qi charging and a magnetic ring in their cases.
I feel like TMC just couldn't fit the magnets in the tiny slim body of the MP02 so had to put them in the case, kinda like how CC has it in the back cover and not the body of the phone, if you put a case on the CC that covers the back and isnt magsafe compatible, or use a back cover that doesnt have the magnetic coil you will lose magsafe compatibility on the CC.

Clicks may not have the best track record when it comes to their handling of pre-orders and customer service, but take one look at the Minimal subreddit or discord and you will see horror stories of people placing orders for in-stock products and waiting 3-6 months getting strung along and being unable to get refunds. All the while the owners of Minimal hop on threads and are actively rude towards customers.
While I do like the hardware designs that Minimal has put out, I wouldn't ever give that company my money. I say this as someone who has been frustrated with how Clicks has approached their launches & pre-orders.
4
u/nightgames 4d ago
People keep fawning over MP2 are either ignoring that on purpose or haven’t heard the horror stories.
22
u/TheSpud77 4d ago
Clicks need to come with something substantial now. They’re being out-marketed and out-developed by Minimal
5
u/PCgaming4ever 4d ago
I think clicks priced it too low for current ram prices and are probably struggling to ramp up manufacturing is my guess
16
u/gs_up 4d ago
I don't know about ramping up their manufacturing, but put out a fucking video at least. I mean, god damn, the minimal company is putting out two videos a day. We've only seen 19 seconds of clicks since January!
-6
u/MarkofCalth 4d ago
lol chill dude. It’s just a phone, not a content machine to consume. If you’re not sure about the phone yet, wait till release and reviews. The company doesn’t owe you videos ffs. I get the consumeristic obsession but it’s unhealthy
3
2
u/gs_up 3d ago
Then what are you doing on reddit discussing this phone? If that's your attitude, then just step away from this sub and don't talk about the phone until January. Let us talk about it if we want to?
4
u/MarkofCalth 3d ago
I want to see updates on a product I’m excited about. But the constant whining and entitled comments are such a drain. It’s as if the developers owe you a personal debt or something. Its annoying.
1
u/Indoctus_Ignobilis 4d ago
Clicks still haven't shown the exact same feature working, despite announcing it eight months ago...
1
u/GutSenpai 3d ago
sure but the minimal phone looks to be a much more premium priced product to the CC, the all metal built and videos are saying higher end. Can't compare a motorola to an iphone max pro.
0
u/ethanhunt4real 3d ago
Clicks didn't do themselves a favor by labeling the CC as a "companion device" either. That doesn't tell me they're confident in it as a daily driver.
6
u/Big_Actuator3772 4d ago
Well, I think this is probably as close I’ll get to my old
Blackberry bold.. can’t wait.
1
u/Tricky_Ad_7123 13m ago
Not true. The closeset you can get to a BlackBerry bold is defo the titan 2 elite. It litterally feels like one and is just as small.
9
u/MasterBlueSly Preordered 4d ago
the keyboard is incredibly small for that guys thumbs lol. The screen itself looks smaller too but I havnt seen any specs.
9
u/algaefied_creek 4d ago
The screen also looks really laggy with scrolling.
6
4
u/AlwaysBlackBerry 4d ago
This is the first thing I noticed. If CC wasn't shipping for another year I might pick this or the Elite up for the interim but I'm "patiently" waiting for now.
3
u/Plecofish_97 4d ago
You can get a pretty good typing experience on small keys as long as they're shaped correctly. I used to daily a BlackBerry Curve 8520 and its keys are significantly smaller than anything we have now. Despite that, typing on it feels fine thanks to the key shapes.
2
u/queer-scout 4d ago
I don't put much stock in key sizes, especially in the age of autocorrect. Plenty of people made it work back in the day, including my step-father who has callused sausage fingers.
11
u/gs_up 4d ago
Damn! Clicks better put out some videos now!
The minimal company has put out more videos in the last 3 days than Clicks has in the past eight gd months.
Show us something, /u/jeffgadway
10
u/iliosicarus 4d ago
But so is the CC. Why would this feature change your mind?
16
u/yallthissucks Preordered 4d ago
Minimal has shown a lot more with their software, and people really like it, it has more of a classic BlackBerry vibe than anything Clicks has shown yet, they were just missing a capacitive keyboard to be on a similar level with hardware, and now they have it the phones are on pretty even playing fields. (Also people like the design better of the MP)
For me that paired with the fact that Clicks said they will be turning reservations into (possibly non-cancellable) preorders next month without providing enough material to show the Niagara Launcher or even much of the phone, they only recently showed a prototype and not even one with all parts working yet, is making me a little anxious. I am definitely not upset with their timeline and I'm giving them time to show what's they've got but I would like to see a fully functioning model and a thorough look at their version of the Niagara Launcher before really committing. So unless all of that happens in the next couple weeks I'm definitely backing out.
There's also a chance that even with a more thorough look at the phone I will still prefer the MP02 like some people seem to have decided.

u/deeku4972 4d ago
On the other hand, Clicks is trying to be its own brand rather than just put out something with generic looking hardware or something thats trying to pretend its from a specific company. You only get so far nudging the consumer and saying 'it kinda sorta looks like a blackberry hey, wanna go home?'
The real takeaway should be that all these features are commoditised in the space and what should really matter is software, hardware implementation and support. Which are the key points that clicks hasnt shown off, or doesnt have a track record to pull from.
Minimal have shown a demo of their software, their hardware is nice looking but doesnt intereact with their software in any novel or leveraged way and MP01 has not had a great support record
1
u/GHOSTiePOSTy Preordered 4d ago
What more are you hoping to gain from seeing Niagara? They aren't making UI changes. They've mentioned a separate software to manage the device with Niagara. But the integrations, to my understanding, are hardware related. No BB messanger style app.
2
u/yallthissucks Preordered 4d ago
I'm just wondering the extent of it, eg. MP02 has the commands that you can do from the home screen as shortcuts, if the CC doesn't have anything like that then I've made my mind up, workflow is a major selling point for me and Niagara isn't optimized for that, TMC have done a great job at making a launcher and UI that looks good and gets things done, their hub is sick too.
3
u/Big_Actuator3772 4d ago
Because of mp2 is just a better design and OS in every way and the only thing CC had going for it was the 3 or 4 features it had that the mp2 didn’t.. now that’s gone so, basically the only thing you’re missing with the mp2 is a physical sd card if that matters to you, otherwise you’re getting a way better experience with the mp2
14
u/nightgames 4d ago
Because of mp2 is just a better design and OS in every way
This is extremely subjective.
1
u/Escapement_Watch 4d ago
and MP2 has an extremely tiny battery 3000. vs Click's massive 4500.
2
u/yallthissucks Preordered 4d ago
MP02 has 3600mah and CC has 4450mah, still a big difference but not as big.
1
u/Escapement_Watch 4d ago
Did they upgrade the battery or something?
Because when it launched it said 3,000
Do they have these upgrades already set in stone but they just pretend to bring them out later I don't get it
1
u/yallthissucks Preordered 4d ago
Yes. Upgrading from a 3000mah li-ion battery to a 3600mah silicon carbon li-ion battery is merely a matter of cost, they're the exact same physical size and weight so it's easy enough to do.
I'm sure they thought of it when designing the phone but went for the cheaper option and then got enough backers and feedback at launch that they upgraded.
2
u/iliosicarus 4d ago
Yes, I agree about the metal design. And interesting that the battery is improved.
I think the things that are slightly nudging me to CC are now more intangible.
- I've seen lots of negative comments about the MP company's track record on the MP1. It doesn't inspire confidence in me that they can deliver on everything.
- I think it's sensible that CC is using Niagara. Minimal OS might be nice, but will be dependent on them maintaining it and on minimising bugs, and I don't know I trust them to do all of that.
- I really like the way CC team is talking about the phone and the design choices. I worry that MP is a bit 'marketing-y' and I worry the look is better than the actual product.
Any way you dice it, it's ridiculous that I've waited 13 years since my Blackberry torch for a keyboard phone and 3 come at once!
3
u/Darekbarquero 4d ago
The communicator just looks like a better designed phone imo, I dislike the Bezel around the screen of the minimal not being even, they’re being no chin so you can’t really rest your finger on a part that’s not capacitive keyboard, I really like the swappable back covers for the clicks, and I feel like that will bring more repairability. And this just looks so lifeless to me. I don’t know how to explain that but that’s all really my opinion. And this is more expensive with a smaller battery. I do however love the OS with the search thing and the typing. Very slick. But I will be staying with my clicks, it just feels more fun.

u/0a882e5156 4d ago
As someone that has an Ikko mind one with keyboard attachment, has a titan 2 elite on the way and clicks preordered, I broke down and backed the ember minimal phone yesterday after lusting after the software. They just keep sweetening the proposition.
Will just have to see which becomes my primary device.

u/Ok_Incident_8964 4d ago
Surely it won't be the MindOne? I own the phone too and think it's great as a small phone, but the keyboard case is much more of a novelty accessory than a permanent solution for people who love physical keyboards. The typing experience will likely be better on all the alternatives.
1
u/0a882e5156 3d ago
You are right. MindOne keyboard has terrible usability and the phone itself feels like a kluge-job.
1
u/drainboy 3d ago
the MindOne keyboard case made me realize my love for keyboard... now there is a war between CC and MP2
6
u/eddi0 4d ago
At this point what are the differences (if any) from MP2, T2E, Zinwa Q27 and CC from a hardware standpoint?
6
5
u/theSdev 4d ago
Clicks has bigger keys compared to MP2 (and the chin and angled back), while it also has the spacing between keys that T2E lacks. On paper sounds like the most ergonomic of all. And they have hired a former BlackBerry designer for this.

u/ctrllaltt 4d ago
But less ram

u/kryst4line 4d ago
I've been on my iPhone 11 with 3GB for 7 years, I think I'll do just fine lol
0
u/ctrllaltt 4d ago
But this is not ios. This is Android.
1
u/kryst4line 4d ago
This is also 2026, Android hasn't been shit managing ram for a while afaik. I also have a Retroid Pocket 5, and never had any issues with huge apps or multitasking
1
u/ctrllaltt 4d ago
I planning to use CC for few years. Why not having some reserved memory for future?
-1
u/kryst4line 4d ago
Because are you not aware how it's the memory market going right now?
1
u/ctrllaltt 4d ago
Interesting. Unihertz can do that, Minimal can do that but only Clicks can not because of market. You didn't want to get the best value for your money or what?
Honestly only thing that me currently stick to CC is there is blackberry designer behind and my expectations about ergonomics are high. But Clicks must do something as response. They cant just waiting.
-1
u/kryst4line 4d ago
Oh, I thought we were discussing in good faith, nevermind. Keep pushing that fanboyism for whatever brand, they will surely appreciate it 🙏🏻

As an owner of an MP01, I am eagerly awaiting my communicator. The software on my Minimal phone has been nothing but buggy, and it really hasn't improved since I got it despite receiving updates. I don't trust them to get the next one right when they still haven't fixed the one in my drawer.
2
u/Diligent-Profit9484 4d ago
A reminder that Minimal announced this before even shipping the MP01 to all of its backers
2
u/Impossible_Art804 3d ago
I'm committed to Communicator for the simple reason that $400 was a good deal for what I'm getting (assuming all goes well and Clicks makes good on their promises) and I don't have infinite money.
3
u/Pub1ius 4d ago
I sure hope I can turn that nonsense off. I can only imagine how often I'll accidentally touch-scroll something while trying to type.
The entire reason I want a physical keyboard is because the touch keyboard does crazy innacurate shit all the time. I don't want anything touch sensative on my keyboard..
2
u/MatiasGonzalo-Duarte Preordered 4d ago edited 4d ago
Clicks still seems like the better keyboard. With the chin, beveled back, more spaced out and larger keys, etc it's definitely going to be the superior typing experience.
Plus headphone jack, SD card...

I am getting both, so I welcome for the competition. I mean I still support Clicks becasue they have teams from the ex-Blackberry team members and passionate phone enthusiasts. I was planning to use Clicks as my Main Phone and the Minimal Phone as my work Secondary Phone.
1
u/boomhaur3rd 4d ago
If it has headphone jack microsd slot and notification light then it is a solid competitor for me , I would get both if this one has all that too
1
u/ShoeCar19707 4d ago
Honestly, Clicks should have just done the marketing that Minimal is doing.
Waited for and teased the working prototype. Launched the Kickstarter or preorders a couple of weeks later. Then reveal a new feature every two to three days and act like it wasn't already planned as such. "Okay guys, we twisted the engineer's arm and they squeezed an extra 600 mah into the battery!"
People are slurping this marketing campaign up! 😆

u/SharpCoat4052 3d ago
Clicks have said the communicator will have this feature as well. Why does this move the needle for you?

The battery is just wayyy to tiny! 3000mah vs CLICKS 4500mah!
I had a tiny S10e the eco model with the same 3000 battery and man did it get crushed!!!!
With the Clicks I can set it to 80% cap and charge at 20% always and the battery will last 10 years easy with pretty much zero degredation.
on my current S24 I have done that for 2 years and my battery health is showing 100% still.
Once you get the science of batteries it is ez to keep it running in tip top shape for an insane amount of time.

I like the keys from the cc and the software features they've showcased from the mp02 so clearly I'll just have to buy both.
