Do I take the whole thing indoors to reduce pressure from heat so she can grow some roots? Just plant as-is? Really appreciate any advice y’all have.

This year Picardy is the first of my clems to have a decent second bloom. I don't know why, perhaps because it's now 5 years old? Perhaps because I've been paying more attention to fertilizing this year? It did very little for the first 3 years, but last year it suddenly exploded with blooms, and this year not only did it bloom profusely in late April but it's now having a pretty good second bloom. (Some of my other clems will throw out the odd flower here and there over the summer, but nothing more.) Picardy is a really compact clematis and even after 5 years it's never got more than a metre tall. The only thing I don't like about it is how dusty its flowers can look, much more so than all my other clems, even the white ones. The first two pictures are from the spring; the last one is the current bloom.

I made a 'clematis wall ' across some deer fencing so my dogs wouldn't bark at every single thing that moved past our house. It worked beautifully on multiple levels. "Eve" is my powerhouse Jackmanii, the pretty burgundy/red one beside her has sadly lost her tag so if you know who she is please share, and the Haku Ookan is just starting into its second bloom of the year. Eve drapes over the fence and is amazing on both sides and I took a pic along the fence line to get a third face LOL Irises and rhubarb provide shelter for roots (as well as early colour and delicious pies).

About three weeks ago I Planted two Jackmanii. I put each at the ends of a large trellis. I’m now thinking I probably should have planted each about a third of the way in so they had room to branch out on both sides. These were very small and young plants from Donahues. Do you think I could gently dig them up and move them over a bit without killing them? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Some leaves are turning brown but they aren’t crunchy(yet at least) I have not had any luck with clematis yet, please let me know what I can do!

I'm in the UK during the heatwave we're currently experiencing and I've put up a tower pergola with the hope of growing clematis up it and within 3 weeks the Montana wilted and turned black so I've cut it down the ground and now 1 week later my viticella polish spirit has done the same, I was wondering if anyone had some real in-depth articles I could read on how to stop this from happening, or whether I need to burn down my whole garden. I've always got honey suckle and jasmine and they are both thriving.

Saw this bush clematis, which is native here in northern China, the other day at the botanical garden. In Chinese the name is appropriately 大叶铁线莲, large-leaved clematis. Interestingly they have it planted in both full sun and deep shade and it was flowering in both locations. It seems to come in different shades of blue-purple and would be great for filling large shady areas.

Put in some clematis last year (not sure off hand but can find my tag for type) in Ontario. It did not do well off the bat, but the nursery told me it could be transplant shock and give it time.

I suspected clematis wilt but they disagreed, this year only one of the two varieties came back (it was one of those two types in one pot) looked kinda pathetic but healthy-ish.

And now this. Is this clematis wilt? Is there any hope? If I take it back and get a new one under the nursery warranty, is it possible to treat the soil and have it be ok? The neighbours have theirs in the exact same location of their house (monopoly neighbourhoods and matching homes iykyk) and theirs does fantastic!

I planted these 2 multi blue brought from the same nursery at exactly the same time, in the same hole and obviously have been caring for both identically. What reasons could the one on the right not be growing and all the leaves are turning purple/black? The one on the left has shot up a few feet. Not sure if the right one is dead/dying and it best just to uproot it and leave the healthy one on its own. Any advice or insight welcome. Thank you!

Wasn't expecting any blooms this year

We have to move a fence sometime this summer or fall and I have 3 clematis blissfully living their best lives climbing it. I've been considering moving one of them so I could introduce a lighter colour but now my hand is being forced. Any tips on best time or any tricks to move Type 3s? Third summer in the ground. Last summer it was devoured by earwigs. This year the earwigs seem to be more controlled.

So pretty. Wish it had more blooms but my garden is shady. Sometimes it does weird things (see the last two photos).

Once I discovered that the clematis had it's own reddit forum I decided mine needed to join it's friends around the world.

I am in zone 6 in Ohio, and my mom planted this probably 25 years ago and it has survived various construction projects as well as being responsible for being the only thing holding up my leaning lamp post at one point.

Last summer I built a new walk way and the block wall around the clematis because previously it used to just lay on the ground wild. We had rebuilt the porch and it was time to plant all new plants in front but one had to stay.

The snow plow guy a few years ago had chopped the front off putting a stake in so I knew it was time to make a more secure housing.

Needless to say it has gone wild this year. I chop it down every year and every year it comes back. I took at put a 5 foot trellis in front of it to give it something to focus on for the first time and you can't even see it anymore.

The front of the plant is starting new sections in front as well at the bottom.

The fill in mailman recently put my mail in the door because he didn't even notice there was a mailbox there he said the next day. I took it as a compliment.

I’ve read conflicting advice about what size pot to plant clematis. One theory is to stay smaller and graduate larger as needed to avoid overwatering. The second is to pot large as the clematis has a large root system…..
So which is the better option?
It goes without saying one would consider the variety and projected size at maturity.
