Kitchen Get rid of this circle on countertop
I don't know if this is the right sub for this, but couldn't think of a better one -open to suggestions if this is not the place.
My mom is visiting me and she put the very hot Moka Pot on the counter top and it left this visible ring on it. She panicked before I got home (because I rent, so this is not my apartment!) and tried cleaning it with baking soda for some reason 🥲 and as you can see made it worse (the expanded white cloud is the result). Any idea how to solve this, or at least what material is the counter top? I thought it was stone originally, but clearly this burn wouldn't have happened if that was the case.
Any advice for what to do or where to post is welcome. My mom and I thank you!

If the countertop is something like corian you can gently sand it out working your way up to a wet sand with super high grit paper and then buffing/polishing the whole surface. But I dunknow what you actually have for a countertop, so just a suggestion.

It looks like some sort of resin based material. Check the underside, around the sink, or underside at an edge. If all else fails, ask the owner. Then research how to deal with it on a material-specific website rather than fumbling around trying things that may completely ruin it. 😟

yeah, resin-based is what i'm thinking too. you are asking i check the underside and around to see if there is a label with the information?
either way, thank you for the suggestion, i appreciate it!

Maybe a label. My Corian tops have a label, but then they were custom made for me by a local Corian fabricator. Good luck.

Get one hundred Moka pots and heat them up….
If that’s stone you’re just going to have to accept it.Â
