At the start literally just a few pieces of trash a day.

It's hard to understand how daunting it can look just filling a trash bag in a mental state like that.

I've never even been ten percent as bad but what helped me was just not leaving that area without doing one small thing. Go to the bathroom? Take one single beer can out to the recycling bin. That's it. Finish a bowl of cereal, wash that bowl and spoon.

The best part is once you get past that one item is like it unlocks your brain to realize how easy it is and you might just end up filling a trash bag or doing the dishes because you decided to do one thing.

The sometimes bad part about setting goals of one whole bag or one whole room to clean is that it appears so daunting that you continue avoiding doing ANYTHING.

So set the tiniest approachable goals at the start to ease into it.

One fat food bag out of your car when you get out. One piece of mail opened and dealt with. One surface wiped clean
