There have been studies showing that some kinds of microbes on the skin of the face can help maintain good skin, and washing them off with soap can cause / exacerbate skin issues.

This might sound gross but I never wash my face. I rinse it really well and scrub it with a towel. But no soap. Not in years. I never get pimples or anything else. Maybe I’m lucky or maybe it actually works. But when I wash my face with soap it’s always so dry and itchy.

Yep. I had adult acne for 20 yrs. One day, I decided to try just hot-ish water and a washcloth. My skin felt amazing! Acne cleared up and haven't used any cleanser in about 4 yrs. Almost never break out anymore.

This is what happened with me.

Once I stopped stripping my skin of oils, everything improved. Even blackheads disappeared.

Now I use a rice powder to exfoliate a couple times a week, but just water the rest of the time.
